Since becoming a charity focused solely on campaigning in 2019, Age UK London has adopted and implemented a new strategy. We have agreed campaign priorities; successfully changed policy at a London-wide and borough level; and adapted our finance, HR and IT systems to better support a campaigning charity.
The Board is looking for a new CEO to lead the charity through the next phase of its development, creating a new strategy to guide its campaigning work making London a better city for older people and to develop a sustainable income stream.
Reports to: the Board
Key duties and responsibilities
· In conjunction with the board, lead the creation of a new strategy for the charity and develop and implement appropriate business and financial plans, with clear objectives and outcomes and to operationalise the strategy, ensuring all activities are aligned to achieve the strategy.
· Develop and implement a new income generation strategy, including building relationships with funders, and strengthening and growing our individual giving programme to put the charity on the path to becoming financially self-sustaining.
· Work with the Campaigns Manager to continue the delivery of high quality campaigns to make London a better city for older people and position Age UK London; and ensure campaigns are grounded in evidence and the views and experiences of older Londoners.
- Ensure that the Charity maintains relationships with all appropriate external stakeholders so that our campaigns are successful and the voices of older Londoners are heard in decision making, and to oversee the delivery of our external communications plan.
- Have overall responsibility for the lawful and efficient operation of the Charity including overseeing our outsourced finance function, governance; regulatory reporting; legal and regulatory compliance; HR, premises, insurances, IT and all other operational matters.
- Maintain our relationships with local London Age UKs via our existing networks and regional structures.
- Ensure appropriate reporting to the board with necessary analysis, (risk/benefits/resources) clearly presented to allow the board to discharge its governance function.
- Line management of the Campaigns Manager and Marketing & Communications Officer.
Person specification
Experience
Essential
- Experience managing the operational and financial aspects of a small charity.
- Proven ability to build relationships with funders and secure grant income linked to campaigning activity.
- Practical senior level experience in campaigning to make sustainable change.
- Some experience of working directly with trustees is needed but this does not have to be as a CEO.

- Experience acting as the “public face” of a campaigning organisation interfacing with the media, politicians and other stakeholders.

The Role
The current CEO, Denise Stygal-Watson, has done a fantastic job since joining the charity over four years ago and will be handing over an organisation at an exciting time in its development. We have a strong senior management team in place, enjoy robust processes, solid reporting, accountability and financial rigour and, while there are inevitably challenges, there is everything to play for going forward.
Great work has already been done but the charity needs to continue to build its network, develop partnerships with local companies, as well as grow its donor income, including legacies, to build on its base of earned income from its retail revenue. About You
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of leadership and management across a range of responsibilities at senior level – ideally gained in the corporate sector.
You will also have:
- Substantial experience of business planning development and delivery
- Financial acumen – experience of financial management and control, including budget oversight and cost control
- Knowledge, experience and understanding of strategic planning and service development planning; including facilitation, implementation and review/evaluation and organisational change
- Track record in driving and supporting fundraising growth, developing networks and working with funding partners

The Role
The purpose of this role is to support the Global Fund Development Team with the day-to-day smooth running of activity and operations. What you’ll do
ShareAction’s Banking Standards team works towards holding financial institutions accountable for their impact on climate change. We have a history of campaigning on key aspects of banks’ climate strategies – such as their emission reduction targets or fossil fuel policies – and we are gradually expanding our work to include other sustainability themes and banking regulation. We have achieved significant wins, such as contributing to HSBC becoming the world’s largest bank to cease financing for new oil and gas fields, Barclays dramatically reducing its oil sands financing, and mobilising investors to call on Societe Generale to set a renewable energy target.
The team is structured around two main pillars: our campaigning and our research pillar. The research pillar ensures that the team’s campaigning and advocacy work is based on sound analysis and facts. The Senior Research Manager oversees the research pillar, currently composed of three more junior researchers. The Senior Research Manager is responsible for developing and implementing a research strategy that underpins campaign needs for analysis and insight in line with campaign timelines and available resources. You will oversee and contribute to the delivery of high-quality research outputs, including thematic reports, investor briefings, and surveys of Europe’s largest banks, and ensure that they are underpinned by clear and robust research methodologies. Alongside the Head of Banking Programme and the Senior Campaign Manager, you’ll act as an ambassador for the team in external forums, the media, and when meeting with and presenting to external stakeholders, including banks, civil society organisations, and investors.

We are seeking a part-time Trusts and Grants Fundraiser to help raise funds for these vital projects by researching and writing applications and reports to charitable trusts and foundations, and by supporting grant applications to public funders. We currently raise £250,000 pa from trusts and foundations, and enjoy established relationships, including with multi-year funders.

Responsibilities
The Trusts and Grants Fundraiser will lead on our applications, reporting and the administration of our appeals to charitable trusts and foundations, and support bids to public funders.
You will:
• maintain and manage our existing pipeline of charitable trusts and foundations
• undertake research and identify trusts and foundations whose priorities align with our work, in line with organisational priorities
• work closely with the General Manager and Director of Education to research, prepare and submit high quality, compelling applications, ranging from 4-6 figures and including multi-year proposals
• record applications made, track outcomes and provide reports for finance and management
• prepare timely updates and reports to funders that communicate the impact of their support and maximise the opportunity for ongoing or future support, working with colleagues to ensure feedback, case studies, data and financial information is available as required
• work closely with colleagues to maximise the opportunities of stewardship and long-term cultivation, e.g. by inviting funders to events and projects where appropriate
