Laurence’s Larder is a food aid charity based in Brondesbury Park, Brent. Every week we offer food parcels, sit-down hot meals, a clothes bank, social activities, and access to a wide range of vital support services. We are non-referral and open to all. We bring people together, alleviating both loneliness and food poverty, utilising surplus food that would otherwise go to landfill.

Laurence’s Larder is seeking a new Chair of the Board — someone who can bring energy, strategic thinking, and people skills to help guide the charity into its next phase. 

This is a wonderful opportunity to lead a well-respected, fast-growing charity that’s deeply embedded in its local community.

We’re looking for volunteers with a keen interest in dementia to join our team of Trustees, contributing their experience and skills to help support, shape and develop the charity.

Who we are

Arts for Dementia uses the power of the arts to inspire people living with dementia to get creative, connect, learn new skills and most importantly, have fun.Our free workshops aim to challenge and boost confidence and wellbeing through a variety of art forms from visual arts to drama, sculpture, dance and more.

For people living with dementia and those who support them day to day, these are opportunities to make friends in a safe and friendly setting, to be part of the local community, to stay active and to enjoy the fulfilment that comes from creative activities. Our current priority locations are the London boroughs of Southwark and Camden.Our in-person workshops are all in London, while online activities are open to people across the UK.

Our regular one-day training courses provide creative facilitators across the UK with the knowledge and skills they need to support dementia-friendly activities.

The role of a trustee

Our team of trustees plays a key role in setting the strategy – the overall direction – of the charity. There are four formal board meetings each year where, together with the Chief Executive, our trustees oversee the delivery of the strategy and financial management, consider operational plans and explore what support they can provide to enable the staff team in their work.

Often this support is connected to a trustee’s expertise in a particular field, for example marketing, fundraising, I.T. or legal, or the networks they have access to such as local community groups, potential donors or arts organisations. 

Specific areas of activity such as finance and fundraising are also supported by small sub-committees that bring appropriate staff and trustees together so that work can be progressed between the quarterly meetings. These are arranged at times to suit those involved. 

Currently quarterly meetings of all Trustees are held in person and online alternately. Online meetings are early evening, and in-person meetings are in central London during the day. They each last for two hours. If it helps new trustees to be fully involved, we are happy to explore different timings for future meetings. 

What difference could you make?

You can make a real difference to those and others affected by bringing your additional experience into the charity.  This might be from involvement in your community or your understanding of dementia within a minoritized ethnic group. We know that dementia and its effects have no barriers, so our approach to recruiting new trustees aims to have no barriers and to be supportive and open to ideas.  You may have never considered yourself as a potential trustee but feel that you do have something you could offer to a charity like ours. As a Trustee, you would be working with a friendly and approachable board that brings together a range of experience, which is enhanced by the skills of the staff team. The role also comes with responsibilities that incorporate legislation and good governance practice and this Charity Commission document explains these. 

All new Trustees will benefit from an induction programme that allows them to get to know the staff and other trustees, meet some of the beneficiaries, learn how the charity works and understand the formal responsibilities.  We would also enable you to develop your skills and confidence through access to training and information on Trustee responsibilities and skills.

There are many opportunities to broaden your own experience and develop your confidence in new skills within a supportive environment. 

We also ensure no Trustee is out of pocket due to their responsibilities, so all reasonable expenses (e.g. travel to board meetings) are reimbursed. 

PNH Support is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year! Much has changed for patients living with the ultra-rare blood condition paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH) during this time including the development of a number of new treatments which have transformed many lives. Despite this, patients still face other continuing challenges, for example, dealing with fatigue and the psychological impact of living with a chronic disease. Importantly, patients also need their voices to be represented independent of healthcare professionals. As PNH Support can only continue to support the PNH community with the help of Trustees and volunteers, we are seeking new Trustees to become actively involved in our management and governance including the implementation of our recently developed 5 year strategy. Whether you are an experienced Trustee, or are considering your first appointment, wewould love to hear from you!

Yoga Stops Traffick is an international campaign to raise awareness of and funds for survivors of human trafficking in India. We are seeking 2 volunteers to help us improve and evolve this campaign.

What will you be doing?

Yoga Stops Traffick is an international campaign run by UK registered charity Adventure Ashram to raise awareness of and funds for survivors of human trafficking in India. Every year thousands of yoga practitioners from all corners of the globe roll out their mats, from the UK to Iceland to Costa Rica, to stand in solidarity with young survivors. The funds raised from Yoga Stops Traffick help rescue and rehabilitate survivors of human trafficking, sexual and domestic violence, modern-day slavery, and child marriage.

We are seeking  2 volunteers to improve the Yoga Stops Traffick campaign. We've been running this campaign for many years now but sadly despite the campaign's great potential, it has been less and less successful each year. We need some creative marketing and social media experts to help lift this campaign back to its full potential.

Main responsibilities of the role:

• Bring your creative social media and marketing ideas to the team to help us think of new ways to increase awareness of Yoga Stops Traffick to yoga studios and teachers in the UK and worldwide, and help us develop plans to turn these ideas into well-executed action.

• Use your corporate partnerships experience to advise us on the best ways to develop new corporate partnerships - help us identify the best potential partners for the campaign and develop plans for approaching them and developing those relationships.

• Help us plan our social media activity to increase our reach, improve our engagement levels and ultimately drive the success of this campaign.

• If you are experienced using Wordpress and skilled at improving SEO that would be an added bonus - our website has terrible SEO and ranks badly and we no longer have the skills in-house to know the best way to improve our website. However, if this is not part of your skill-set but you can improve our general marketing and social media plans - we would still be grateful for your help!

• Provide other administrative support as needed (this could include website updates, creating marketing materials, sending campaign emails, responding to campaign-related enquiries)

Job description:

As our Grant Writer you will be responsible for identifying appropriate grant opportunities, and managing the grant development and proposal process from research to submitting grant applications with any supporting documents.

As our grant writer, you will:

• Identify appropriate sources of funding where we fit their criteria. 

• Write appropriately tailored grant/funding bids that meet funders’ interests and requirements and to write any additional documents in support of funding bids.

• Help develop a Trusts and Foundations strategy to help create and maintain strong and diverse income that meets Say Aphasia’s funding needs.

• Create a calendar of grant deadlines and track submitted funding proposals.

• Help us develop a case for support.

• The bid writer will receive a percentage from successful funding received from their submitted applications.

If you are an experienced grant writer or you just enjoy researching and persuasive writing then we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for a someone who has:

• Experience of being a grant writer, project proposal writer, marketing, or nonprofit development.

• Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential.

• Creative and persuasive written and spoken communication skills. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to inspire and engage diverse audiences.

• Self-motivated and highly-organised.

You would be working closely with the charity’s Service Manager, with regular updates and remote meetings as needed. We have an induction process that will help successful applicants to understand how our charity operates. We would like to offer the volunteer a commission on successful grant applications. 

KCSC are seeking an experienced and committed individual to join the Board and take up the role of Treasurer.  Ideally someone who lives or works in the borough but more importantly has an understanding of charity finances and has possibly had a previous role as Treasurer.

BEING A TRUSTEE

As with any charity, trustees have overall responsibility for making sure it is running well and is doing what it was set up to do. This includes ensuring the charity:

· Spends its money sensibly on the activities it was raised for

· Does not break the rules in its Articles - the charity’s governing document

· Continues to meet our commitments to the communities we serve in accordance with our charitable objectives

· Follows the law, including preparing reports and accounts to send to the Charity Commission

A NEW TREASURER

Our current Treasurer has been serving on the Board since 2021 and has supported the organisation through a difficult economic climate and has helped shape and improve the way in which trustees monitor income and spend through a system of key performance indicators that are reported on.  His commitment, time and financial knowledge he has brought to the role has been valued and made our financial reporting more robust over the years.  Upon stepping down the incumbent is willing to support the incoming treasurer over a period of time to ensure a smooth transition into the organisation.

We are therefore seeking an experienced and committed individual to join the Board and take up the role of Treasurer.  Ideally someone who lives or works in the borough but more importantly has an understanding of charity finances and has possibly had a previous role as Treasurer.

The Treasurer Role primarily is as follows:

· Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements

· Making sure that the financial resources of KCSC meet its present and future needs

· Ensuring that KCSC has an appropriate Reserves and Investment policy

· Preparing and presenting financial reports to the Finance & Personnel Sub Committee and the Board in collaboration with the CEO and Director of Operations

· Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place and are compliant

· Advising on the financial implications of KCSC’s strategic plans

· Keeping the Finance and Personnel Sub Committee and the Board informed of its financial duties, responsibilities and obligations

· Advising on the preparation / submission of financial reports to funders and the Charity Commission

· Overseeing and advising on financial risk and financial management of KCSC

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience of charity accounting and able to provide guidance on ensuring the organisation adheres to charity accounting principles and policies.  Previous experience of being on a charity board  would be preferable although not essential.  However, a commitment to the furtherance of the voluntary and community sector and its role within civil society and subscribing to our stated mission and values is important.

THE COMMITMENT

The Treasurer will need to commit to attending a total of 8 Board/Sub Committee meetings a year as well as spending a few hours each month on attending additional internal meetings with CEO/Director of Operations/Chair on financial matters.

Other considerations to be aware of that can prevent becoming a trustee

· Conflicts of interest. All potential conflicts should be discussed with the Chair or the CEO prior to applying

· Confirmation that the trustee is not disqualified from holding a trusteeship

· People under the age of 18, unless the charity is a registered company

· Anyone convicted of an offence involving deception or dishonesty unless the conviction is spent

· Anyone who is an undischarged bankrupt

· Anyone who has previously been removed from trusteeship of a charity by the Court or the Commissioners

· Anyone who is under a disqualification order under the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1996

· In certain cases, the Charity Commission has the power to grant a waiver and allow a person disqualified from trusteeship, under section 72 (1) of the Charities Act 1993 to accept a trustee post. We only agree in those cases where the charity can clearly demonstrate that the waiver is in the best interests of the charity

What happens next?

Once we receive your application, it will be assessed based on what we are looking for as specified above and you will be notified of the outcome.  If invited to interview you will meet a panel of 3 which includes two trustees and the CEO.  If successful we will invite you to observe a board meeting in action before confirming with you whether you would like to join the board.  If appointed, we will organise a tour of the office to meet the staff and agree any necessary training required.

Are you an enthusiastic and skilled funding grant writer? Be a part of our small but committed team as a pro-active grant writer volunteer for a small national charity supporting people affected by a debilitating pain condition.

We are looking for 2 skilled grant writer volunteers who can take the lead in researching appropriate funds and writing grant bids to help us continue offering our support services and resources and helping us create new programmes and services to support patients and their families who have been affected by a poorly understood chronic condition; Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).

As our Grant Writer you will be responsible for identifying appropriate grant opportunities, and managing the grant development and proposal process from research to submitting grant applications with any supporting documents.

As our grant writer, you will:

• Identify appropriate sources of funding where we fit their criteria 
• Write appropriately tailored grant/funding bids that meet funders’ interests and requirements and to write any additional documents in support of funding bids
• Help develop a Trusts and Foundations strategy to help create and maintain strong and diverse income that meets Burning Nights CRPS Support’s funding needs
• Create a calendar of grant deadlines and track submitted funding proposals
• Help us develop a case for support 
• Report on grant usage and impact
• Review all grant/bid feedback and ensure knowledge is shared, so that learning informs us for future approaches to grants

Other Information

This role is done remotely using Zoom, Slack and email. You would be working closely with the charity’s Chair and with other trustees. However we would have regular updates and remote meetings as needed so we know you are getting the support you need.

We have an induction process that will help successful applicant to understand how our Charity operates and full support of all our volunteers.

Minimum of 3-6 hours per week for this role

About Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity

Background

Founded in 2003 and originally named Andrea’s Gift and later Brain Tumour Research and Support

Across Yorkshire, Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity (YBTC) is Yorkshire and Humber’s leading

brain tumour charity. Offering practical, financial and emotional support to both adult and child

brain tumour patients, together with their families.

We fund brain tumour research in Yorkshire; we hope this research, dedicated to identifying new

approaches to the discovery and treatment of brain tumours, will improve outcomes for patients.

At YBTC we are a small team who are growing to meet the needs of those affected by a brain

tumour in Yorkshire. Around 15 new cases of primary brain tumour are diagnosed in the region

every week.

 Our charity trustees play a key part in strategy development and bringing our strategy to life. We would welcome applicants with:

-Senior finance experience across the charity, government or private sectors.

-Legal experience in Charity Law or legal expertise relevant to the third sector.
