The Alliance for Youth Justice is an alliance of more than 70 non-profit organisations advocating with and for children to drive positive change in youth justice across England and Wales. We mobilise our members’ frontline expertise, children’s lived experience, and evidence from research to champion a child-centred, rights-based and trauma-informed system that treats contact with the justice system as a sign of unmet need and systemic failure, prioritises support over criminalisation and gives every child the opportunity to thrive.

About the role

Following the launch of our new strategic approach, our Influencing Manager will lead the development and delivery of AYJ's influencing, policy, public affairs and campaigning work to shift policy, legislation, practice and public narratives.

Campaigning, policy and public affairs (70%) — lead our influencing strategy alongside the CEO, spot opportunities for systemic change, develop evidence-driven policy positions and briefings, and build relationships with members, politicians, civil servants and stakeholders.

Strategic communications (30%) — ensure the reach of our influencing, write high-impact influencing content for our digital channels, and act as first point of contact for media enquiries.

Anti-opressive, anti-racist practice and youth voice run through everything, including involving children and young people with lived experience safely and meaningfully in our work.

About you

You have a proven track record of influencing for systemic change through policy, public affairs, communications or campaigning within a voluntary sector organisation or coalition, and know how to turn complex policy and research into compelling written communications for varied audiences. You have a thorough understanding of the political environment and Parliament, strong relationship-building skills, and excellent project management. You bring a genuine interest in youth justice and the issues facing children in England and Wales, alongside a personal commitment to anti-racism, social justice and child rights.

ABOUT SUZY LAMPLUGH TRUST 

This post represents an opportunity for the right candidate to join the UK’s founding personal safety charity and leading authority on stalking. 

The Suzy Lamplugh Trust was born out of the tragic story of Suzy Lamplugh, a 25-year-old estate agent who went missing whilst at work in 1986, was never found, and was eventually declared deceased in 1993. The Trust was set up in Suzy’s name and continues to be a pioneer in reducing the risk and prevalence of abuse, aggression and violence - with a specific focus on stalking and harassment – through education, campaigning and support.

We are an organisation that has: 

• been responsible for training over one million lone and frontline workers across all sectors in personal safety; 

• advocated for stalking and harassment to be recognised within the spectrum of crimes that disproportionately affect women (Violence Against Women and Girls or VAWG)

• campaigned heavily and played a pivotal role in driving changes in the law to better protect people across the UK; and 

• supported over 75,000 victims and survivors of stalking since the inception of our National Stalking Helpline and stalking advocacy service. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Support the delivery and evaluation of national campaigns on workplace safety as well as stalking, harassment and other priority areas.

• Maintain effective relationships with civil servants, policy makers, national and local decision makers, and other campaigning bodies and build relevant networks of stakeholders.

• Proactively keep abreast of issues within the post-holder’s own portfolio, general criminal justice, personal safety and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) policy developments and up to date campaigning techniques.

• To undertake or commission research on specific policy areas as required.

• Develop policy recommendations, write policy and campaigns reports, lobby government and other decision makers and stakeholders, and respond on behalf of Suzy Lamplugh Trust to government enquiries, consultations or other relevant initiatives. 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Policy and Campaigns Officer is responsible for supporting on Suzy Lamplugh Trust’s policy and campaigning work relating to reducing harassment, violence and aggression in society by addressing these issues at their root cause, working with employers to improve personal safety culture within organisations and seeking to influence policy and legislative change where necessary. This role will also support campaigns that ensure that victims of stalking receive better support and protection.

Financial control responsibility for accurate, complete, Charity SORP compliant balances in the balance sheet. Review of all monthly balance sheet reconciliations, completeness and of income and expenditure lines and controls accounts. This includes ownership of fixed assets register, KPIs for debtor and creditors aged balances, correct processing of taxes (PAYE/NI and VAT) and banking administration.

Responsible for administering the Procurement Policy and Delegation of Authority. Manage and delegate the financial systems. This includes all aspects of systems management, continuous development and full utilisation of the enterprise resource planning (ERP) cloud-based software. As our Project Manager (Drive Partnership), you will play a key role in supporting the delivery and growth of one of the UK's leading programmes working with high-harm, high-risk perpetrators of domestic abuse. Through effective project management, governance and partnership working, you will help ensure that services are delivered consistently, meet their objectives and contribute to safer outcomes for victims, survivors and their families.

Working closely with colleagues across The Drive Partnership, SafeLives, Respect, Social Finance, commissioners and delivery partners, you will coordinate multiple project workstreams, monitor progress against project plans and support effective programme governance. You will help manage risks, oversee compliance processes, contribute to funder reporting and support the development of systems and processes that strengthen programme delivery. You will also play an important role in facilitating collaboration between partners and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.

We're looking for someone with strong project management experience, excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple workstreams. You'll be confident building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, and motivated by the opportunity to contribute to meaningful social change. Experience of working within the domestic abuse sector, wider violence against women and girls sector, or the charity sector would be advantageous.

Following the launch of our new strategic approach, our Operations and Membership Lead will provide the operational, financial and administrative backbone of the organisation — keeping our finances and governance on track, and coordinating our network of over 70 member organisations.

Finance, operations and governance (70%) — manage bookkeeping in QuickBooks, coordinate banking, prepare management accounts, support grant financial reporting, maintain internal systems (SharePoint, IT), lead on policy compliance (safeguarding, GDPR, health and safety), and support Board governance and statutory filings.

Membership coordination (30%) — manage the end-to-end membership process from enquiries to renewals, coordinate member surveys and data, and organise our events — quarterly member meetings, roundtables and webinars.

Anti-racist, anti-oppressive practice runs through how we work with our Board, staff, members and stakeholders.

About you

You have experience in an operations, finance or administrative coordination role within a non-profit or membership organisation, including managing the full financial cycle within a charity and a working knowledge of charity fund accounting. You're practically experienced with QuickBooks (or equivalent), highly proficient in Microsoft 365, SharePoint and Excel-based tracking systems or CRMs, and bring exceptional organisational skills, discretion and a proactive, self-motivated approach. You have a personal commitment to anti-racism, social justice and child rights.

This is an exciting opportunity to help Beyond the Streets take the next step in our commitment to centre lived experience across the organisation. Over the past year, we have undertaken significant learning, consultation and development work with women with lived experience, staff and external specialist support.
