Global Generation is looking for a Youth Programmes and Outreach Coordinator who is passionate about engaging young people and local communities in reaching their full potential and creating positive social and environmental change. In this role, you will co-lead on the outreach and engagement of local communities, especially with a focus on involving and recruiting young people, as well as planning and facilitation of land-based, cooking and creative workshops. You will particularly focus on working with communities in Islington as we increase our engagement initiatives towards the co-build of our permanent community garden in King’s Cross (which sits on the Islington side), due to start this summer.

Organisational Context

Founded in 2004, we grow food, people and community for a fair and just world. 

Our vision informs our two charitable aims which are the guiding principles for our work: 

• To provide opportunities for the direct experience of natural wilderness environments for children, young people and adults

• To support young people to develop their full potential so they are able to contribute positively to society and the environment

We operate in the boroughs of Camden, Islington and Southwark and work with people of all ages, particularly children and young people. Working from educational and biodiverse garden spaces such as the Story Garden and Floating Garden in King’s Cross (with a permanent community garden to be built over the next 2 years in KX) and the Paper Garden in Canada Water, we combine activities such as urban food growing, carpentry, making, cooking, and healthy eating with dialogue, storytelling, creative writing, performance and art, silence and stillness. These practices help us to create the conditions for people to come together in a fuller and more connected sense of who they are and what they are a part of and, from that space, to practically and creatively contribute to ecological and social change. 

Young people have always been and continue to be at the heart of our work. We aim to support them to develop and lead, offering progression opportunities to move from being participants to being action researchers, co-facilitators and ambassadors, to being paid fellows, staff and trustees.

This role is primarily based at the Story Garden and Floating Garden in King’s Cross (and eventually on the new garden we will be building) and working with our Islington community. You will work closely with the education & community programmes team, gardeners, chefs, volunteers and young people, running hands-on and reflective sessions for people of all ages.
 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

The two main areas of the role are:

1. Outreach, engagement and recruitment

• Lead on the recruitment and engagement of young people throughout the year, primarily through schools, colleges, community groups, local referral agencies, and local network meetings and events

• Develop a diverse range of engaging outreach / recruitment materials, including social media content for the purposes of showcasing our work and inspiring other young people to join

• Create and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of audiences, including young people, parents, local community groups and businesses

• Inspire young people to participate via assemblies, talks, outreach workshops and follow up phone calls

• Assist young people and their parents through the sign-up process from initial expression of interest to joining our programmes, through being in regular contact in the ways that work best for young people

• Retention of young people through active engagement in person and phone calls and/or texts prior to each session

• Attend local forums, actively participate in networks of local organisations, and build relationships with organisations and local people to engage them in the co-build of the new permanent garden

2. Programme Planning, Coordination and Facilitation

• Work closely with the Youth Programmes team in planning, facilitating and evaluating sessions with young people

• Inspire and support young people to lead on their own socially and environmentally impactful projects in the local area

• Work alongside the wider Global Generation teams (kitchen, garden, natural build) and in partnership with other local organisations and businesses to enhance the opportunities available to young people

• Document and evaluate the youth programmes you are working on using creative means through a wide range of approaches, incorporating quantitative and qualitative data

• Report to funders in a range of formats depending on what is needed

• The programmes you will coordinate and co-facilitate are:

• Friday Night Out: Fortnightly after-school cooking programme (4:00-6:30pm), engaging children (8-12 year olds) in discovering the joys of seed to plate, seasonal and sustainable food, growing, harvesting and cooking their own produce. You will work alongside one of our chefs so do not need to be a chef, though an interest in sustainable food and gardening experience is desirable

• Generator programme: Regular after-school workshops and experiences for young people aged 13+,  incorporating a range of approaches and hands-on and reflective activities to support the holistic development of young people and encourage them to take social and environmental action in their communities

• Partnership with Heatherwick Studio as part of a collaborative Young Inspirers programme, linking local school children with opportunities in their studio

You will also work with the Youth & Community Team to plan and deliver community / intergenerational events and experiences that bring people of different ages together.

As the Youth Programmes and Outreach Coordinator, you will be outgoing and love working and reaching out to people across backgrounds and sectors; you will be ready to take initiative, have a flexible attitude, be able to think on your feet and enjoy finding solutions when faced with challenges and change.  You will be able to communicate your passion for Global Generation’s work, the natural environment and social justice to others, particularly young people, in a creative and engaging way, responding to where people are at, and adapting your approach based on this. You will have prior experience of working with schools and finding ways to make the offer relevant to the priorities and needs of young people.

You will readily pick up the phone, follow up on emails sent, visit other organisations and schools, and offer activities in spaces where people are at.  You will love to work deeply with young people over a long period of time, finding out what engages them, building on their interests and finding ways wherever possible for them to grow, progress and lead within Global Generation and beyond.

You will have experience of actively seeking out partnerships to make our offer even more compelling, beneficial and holistic for the young people.  You will have strong project management and coordination skills, as well as planning and facilitating year long programmes, building in different ways of knowing and creative approaches so as to reach a cross-section of young people, adapting to different abilities and needs. 

Ideally you will have experience and a love of urban gardening and/or food growing and engaging people in getting their hands in the soil. You will also have an interest in action research and/or participatory approaches to learning, acting and reflecting.

Citizens UK and the NRPF Partnership

NRPF Partnership

The NRPF partnership was set up in 2023 and is being developed by Citizens UK, Migration Exchange, and Praxis. We are working to build the necessary infrastructure for collaboration across a range of organisations, amplify their work, and build power to win change against the No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) condition. Each partner contributes staff capacity and will work closely with the appointed person to ensure a positive, professional and supportive culture. The Partnership centres around: 

1)  Placing decision-making power and strategic vision in the hands of people doing the work 

(frontline staff and people with lived experience), via a steering group and working groups.

2) Establishing a strategic pooled fund so that the steering group has sufficient budget to guide the collaboration, act, identify and seize political opportunities, and facilitate active participation of everyone involved.

3) Expanding the movement and building power, using incremental wins to build towards broader change towards the goal of ending NRPF.

The Person and the Role

100,000s people in our communities have put down roots in the UK but are denied access to the welfare safety net (No Recourse to Public Funds).

Citizens UK has worked with Migration Exchange and Praxis to raise over £2m to develop a 5 year partnership to enable the movement to end NRPF.

This Senior Project role will be a core part of the support to the steering group of the partnership to make sure it runs effectively and achieves its potential.

This role will lead and coordinate all project management and tactical activities necessary to support the day-to-day functioning of the NRPF Partnership. • Building and maintaining relationships and communication – maintaining excellent working relationships and effective communications with the Coordination Backbone Group (CBG), Steering Group, working groups, wider community partners involved in the NRPF partnership, and the Citizens UK Migration Team 

• Managing and coordinating capacity-building and leadership development in support of the shared strategy set by the steering group– developing and maintaining the effectiveness of a capacity-building and leadership development inputs that enables everyone in the Partnership, especially those with expertise by lived experience, to fully participate across all levels of the Partnership

• Project managing all partnership implementation logistics and follow-up – managing meeting logistics from planning to scheduling to outreach to follow-up to ensure seamless participation of Steering Group and Working Group members and ensure that planned activities take place effectively in support of the goals and values of the Partnership

Main Responsibilities

Reporting directly to X with  oversight from the NRPF Partnership CBG, the post holder will be expected to manage their own independent workload, as well as support the broader CBG. The main responsibilities are outlined below:

Working with the NRPF Partnership’s key stakeholders

• Developing and maintaining relationships with Partnership stakeholders 

• Working with the CBG to update outreach strategy as new needs emerge

• Building and maintaining trust and relationships across the whole Partnership and more widely (within and across sectors from migration to anti-poverty to children’s rights, etc.)

• Supporting with the facilitation of Working Group meetings

• Develop and implement ideas for action that are consistent with the goals of the project

Strategic coherence

• Supporting the coordination of activities with partners to align strategies and actions and minimise duplication

• Working with the CBG to coordinate with other related projects and coalitions to maintain a full understanding of the current landscape of local and regional activities

• Maintaining understanding of current implementation challenges and developing comprehensive solutions to address them in dialogue with partners

• Developing, maintaining, and monitoring political opportunities to support Working Groups to develop and execute on their action plans

• In partnership with the CBG and steering group, providing support to partner organisations to coordinate and collaborate on joint initiatives

• Coordinating advocacy activities across stakeholders that support the wider aims of the Partnership

Communications

Build leadership development offer for the Partnership

• Working alongside CBG and the CUK Migration team, refine community organising and leadership development support for all members of the NRPF partnership especially those with lived experience of NRPF

• Ensuring that everyone in the group can contribute to the best of their ability by managing a training and external facilitation budget to build skills, confidence and trust

Fundraising and reporting 

• Working with the CBG to develop and support fundraising bids and support reporting requirements and funder relationships

• Contributing to the budgeting process and the effective management of financial resources in the project working closely with Global Dialogue who will hold pooled funds on behalf of the partnership

Managing meeting/event logistics 

• Planning and managing the logistics of all Partnership meetings and gatherings of the Steering Group, working groups and CBG (e.g., dial-in, attendance, cancellations, etc.)

• Consolidating Working Group updates for Steering Group, including summarising meeting notes and highlighting key outputs and decisions so they can be easily shared with others across the Partnership

Are you an experienced corporate fundraiser with an interest in working in the international development sector? Are you creative, strategic, highly organised, a confident and effective communicator and strong team player? 

We are looking for an experienced Senior Corporate Fundraising Manager to work closely with the Head of Programme Funding to drive new donor engagement and secure sustainable, multi-year funding. If you are seeking a dynamic and engaging fundraising role which offers you the chance to play a pivotal role within a small but ambitious organisation, then this could be the job for you.

You will be an exemplary relationship builder and have experience in developing multi-faceted corporate partnerships (ideally with experience and success in employee engagement, corporate sponsorship, and/or operational partnerships).

The role also line manages the Senior Fundraising Officer post, a position that provides administrative and fundraising support across the whole fundraising team.  Please note that we are a small team and so you’ll need to be comfortable rolling up your sleeves to help out team members and to support new business across other restricted income streams.

About the role
A key member of WVUK’s Humanitarian & International Programmes (HIP) management team, you’ll lead the unit that’s responsible for acquiring around £35m of institutional donor funding (grants & contracts) each year, as well as corporate and philanthropic proposal development on behalf of the Strategic Partnership Directorate. About you

To succeed, you’ll need proven experience of developing and maintaining relations with institutional donors, analysing their funding requirements and shifting worldviews (particularly DFID/FCDO, EU/ECHO), and working with, managing, and developing relationships with consortium partners. You’ll also need field experience of working in different cultures and religious contexts. Proactive and creative in improving existing processes and developing new ones to improve efficiency and effectiveness, you’re adept at knowledge management within a demanding team environment and used to line managing and training, mentoring or capacity building a team.

You’re an excellent project manager too - someone who’s comfortable working on complex multiple tasks and prioritising to meet deadlines. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person to join our EDI team. This is a new role that aims to support the co-creation of a sustainable EDI training solution that delivers our ambitious strategic plans for improving our working and volunteering culture. 

The training will also support behavioural change in both of these communities. Through the creation of safe, brave spaces, you’ll be raising the awareness and knowledge of EDI related topics for both our staff and volunteers.
