Job description

Supporting PKD research in the UK, has always been a central focus of our work. As a small charity, historically we have focused on funding small research projects up to £15,000 each and contributing towards PhD studentships. To date, since 2008, we have awarded over £800,000 to research. Over the last few years, we have considered how we can work best to accelerate progress in polycystic disease research and transform outcomes for people living with PKD.

After years of conversations and planning, we have now established the PKD Partnership — a bold collaboration between PKD Charity and Kidney Research UK. By working with researchers, clinicians, patients and industry, the PKD Partnership is creating a UK-wide programme that unites scientific expertise and lived experience to develop better treatments and brighter futures. The patient voice is a key component of the partnership and the projects and networks that it will facilitate. We want to ensure that it is an integral part of all PKD research in the UK.

About the Role: Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Manager

We are seeking a Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Manager to lead the delivery and coordination of patient involvement through the PKD Charity Research Hub.

This pivotal role manages and supports the Research Hub Patient Involvement Panel, acting as the primary interface between people affected by PKD and the academic, clinical and industry communities engaged in PKD research.

The postholder will ensure that lived experience meaningfully informs research priorities, study design, delivery, governance, and evaluation.

The role also supports patient-centred engagement with research studies and clinical trials, helping ensure the wider PKD community is aware of opportunities to take part in research, responding to enquiries, and supporting informed choice.

Working in close partnership with the Chief Executive Officer, the postholder will also contribute to strategic relationships, research partnerships and governance activity, and will lead both research-focused involvement activity and broader live engagement with the PKD community.

This is a part-time role (three days per week), with priorities designed to focus on high impact involvement, strong volunteer support, and high-quality engagement.

For a full description of job responsibilities, person specification, and how to apply please see the job pack.

Interviews will provisionally be held online on Wednesday 10th June. However we will monitor applications on a rolling basis and may approach for interview at an earlier date. If we find the right candidate we may close the recruitment campaign at an earlier time, so we encourage you to get your applications in at the earliest opportunity. Thank you for your interest in working for the PKD Charity.
