Job description

NHS Charities Together is seeking a talented, seasoned and agile senior manager to take responsibility for the organisation’s grants programmes at this critical and exciting stage of our growth and development. The postholder will deliver the grant funding portfolios and associated programme of work of NHS Charities Together.

This is an incredible exciting and pivotal role within NHS Charities Together. The postholder will have the opportunity to shape, deliver and monitor our significantly large and high-profile grants programme following our Covid-19 appeal which has raised over £130m. The Head of Grants, working with the Director of Membership and Impact and Senior Leaders, Grants Committee and Trustees, members, and other stakeholders will also have the responsibility to shape and implement a brand-new grants strategy and management system from 2021 onwards.

Working with colleagues and members, the postholder will further define, develop and deliver a robust grants scheme.  An important aspect of this role is to continue to deliver the current operational plan for grants to member charities, whilst refining and developing a thorough grant process. The day to day accountability includes the development and management of a grants team, relationship management and operations, including the appropriate tracking of grant applications, award decisions, grant payments and grant outcome reporting. The post holder will recommend changes to grant scheme eligibility and criteria as required and will use best practice and evidence-based learning to guide good governance and process in quality assuring the grants function.

The role will require the postholder to utilise their skills, sensitivity and personal confidence to tap into the power that each member of their team brings to their work and in their contribution to our overall mission. While it is essential that the Head of Grants brings efficient and effective systems to increase the productivity of the organisation, is it also critical that the team retain the creative spark that drives NHS Charities Together’s success.
