The Bernard Sunley Foundation is a family grant making foundation which supports charities in England and Wales working to raise the quality of life and provide greater opportunities for the young, the elderly, the disabled and the disadvantaged.
The Foundation has awarded over £140 million in grants since it was established in 1960. Each year, the Foundation awards nearly £5 million to capital projects that deliver a real community focus or provide facilities to support those in need. Grants are made across the Foundation’s four funding categories of community, education, health and social welfare. In the last financial year, the Foundation made 380 grants, totalling £4.860 million.
About the role
The Grants Officer will join our small, hardworking, friendly team and will be responsible for overseeing the monthly grants programme. They will support the Director in collating the board papers for each of the three annual Trustees’ meetings. They will also be expected to help assess the large and medium grant applications that go through to the Trustees’ meetings. The new Grants Officer will be asked to visit charities and projects, which will entail travel across England and Wales. The new Grants Officer will also maintain the grants database, be responsible for updating the new website and be the first port of call for any grant application enquiries.
About you
This role would suit a range of candidates and we are open to candidates without direct grant making experience but the successful candidate will need a demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the grants world. We are particularly keen to hear from people who have energy, enthusiasm, good communication and relationship building skills and experience and confidence with databases. An understanding of how to read charity accounts would be a bonus but training will be provided for the chosen candidate. You will have an aptitude for working both independently and as part of a collaborative team and managing a varied and busy workload.

We are looking for x1 permanent full time (35 hours per week) and x1 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours per week) FTC (18 months) Grants Assessment Officers to join the Grants Team at the Veterans' Foundation. The Grants Assessment Officer plays a vital role in the assessment of grant requests and will maximise the impact and effectiveness of the Foundation’s funding by ensuring we are supporting projects and activities which are closely aligned to our strategic priorities.
The key focus of the role is the assessment of applications across our existing Grant Programmes, reviewing grant monitoring and providing appropriate levels of support to grant holders during the period of funding.
The post holder will help ensure our grant application processes run efficiently and effectively, carrying out thorough desk and UK-wide field-based assessment of applications made to the foundation. They will be a key point of contact for external enquiries to the Grants Team.
LOCATION: Home-based (hybrid), ideally based in the Midlands, to provide reach across the UK for assessment/project visits to monitor grant progress.
Key responsibilities:
- Undertake full and thorough assessment of funding requests, carrying out both in person and online meetings and tasks to ensure that detailed recommendations are written-up and presented for consideration within agreed lead times as defined within the schedule of Decision Meetings
- Work closely with the Grants Support Officer, helping to ensure that payments to current grant holders are released on a timely basis and within the context of agreed protocols and procedures
- Carry out monitoring reviews and visits of funded projects based on reporting provided by Grant Holders
- Assist with broader provision of information and guidance at the point of application and through attendance at funding/networking events
- Manage relationships with our Grant holders including working with them to resolve any issues raised during the period of funding
- Maintain relationships with our Grant Holders and stakeholders, to support them in resolving issues raised during the period of funding
- Contribute to the Grant Team’s ongoing efforts to innovate and improve processes which increase access and engagement for applicants and grant holders
- Provide support for Decision Meetings including preparation of Salesforce reports for decision meetings where grant applications are reviewed
- Assist in any other duties required for the efficient running of the Veterans’ Foundation Grants Programme.
Qualifications/Experience
- Knowledge of the Veterans’ Foundation, the UK funding landscape and current challenges faced by our grant holders and the wider voluntary sector
- Understanding of voluntary sector legal structures (constituted groups, charities and CICs) and their good governance
- Good knowledge of ‘Outcomes’ and ‘Indicators / Activities’ and their role in both demonstrating and considering the impact of projects
- Understanding of the impact charities are seeking to make and an ability to respond creatively to risks and opportunities they face

About the role
This is a key role within the Philanthropy & Partnerships Team. About you
To be successful in this role you must have demonstrable experience of developing and implementing a plan to grow Trust & Grant income, successfully meeting or exceeding fundraising targets from a variety of funders and experience managing relationships with statutory funders and trust and foundations. You will have experience of managing fundraisers and supporting them to manage their priorities and portfolios. You will have experience of measuring and monitoring income and expenditure, and team performance.
It’s essential that you have excellent communication skills and can build relationships across the organisation to develop strong fundraising ideas and support engagement with senior staff in building relationships with trusts. British Heart Foundation (BHF) is the UK's largest independent funder of cardiovascular research. As a Research Advisor you’ll play a pivotal role in bringing our research strategy to life.
Through our portfolio of active research projects, we fund some of the most exciting and innovative cardiovascular research and the most talented scientists from PhD students to BHF Professors.
You’ll play an active role in supporting the work of our research grant committees, by providing scientific input throughout the research grant evaluation and delivery process and taking primary responsibility for supporting the work of the Chairs and Programme Grants Committee.
You’ll work closely with the Senior Research Advisor, Research Grants Manager and Research Grants Officer during funding cycles and grant applications and awards.
Working arrangements
Please note this is a fixed term contract covering family leave until the end of May 2026.
This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and at least one day per week, on average, in our London Office. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.
About you
With a PhD, or equivalent, degree in bioscience, you'll have knowledge and an understanding of scientific and clinical careers and the work of BHF, specifically in relation to research.
With experience of cardiovascular or related research at postdoctoral level as well as research grant evaluation and administration, you'll be able to interpret complex research data and communicate it to lay audiences
You’ll be a proactive member of the team possessing outstanding attention to detail, analytical and interpersonal skills.
With excellent communication, prioritisation, and organisational skills you’ll be able to meet multiple deadlines. You’ll serve as an ambassador for BHF and its research achievements, promoting BHF and its research funding schemes.

Role Summary
The Grants & Advisory Caseworker will join a small, passionate team, dedicated to supporting individuals and families in financial need. You will process and assess grant applications, analyse financial and personal circumstances and make grant awards under your own delegated authority level, occasionally escalating to management and Trustees, where appropriate. Key Responsibilities
· Process a range of applications for assistance to help low-income families with grants towards essential needs. Analyse information against criteria, interpret financial information, liaise with other outside agencies and reach awards and recommendations on financial assistance.
· Monitor and respond to requests for assistance via telephone, email and post.
· Ensure all communications are personalised, reflective and demonstrate empathy and an understanding of individual circumstances.
· Maintain detailed and accurate case and financial records, logging data received, and actions taken in line with current policies and procedures.
· Draw on all available resources to offer support to beneficiaries, advise beneficiaries on possible benefit entitlements and signpost to other sources of support, where appropriate.
· Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the role in line with procedures and Data Protection legislation.
· Share in team related tasks including daily case prioritisation, first line assessment (triage), emergency applications and payments.
· Work with colleagues to foster a co-operative, flexible and team-focused environment.

WCCM seeks to appoint an experienced, creative, and highly motivated Grant and Major Donor Fundraising Manager to lead fundraising and grant management across a global organisation dedicated to the teaching of Christian Meditation. Working to the Executive Director, you will interact with our decentralised finance, marketing and communications staff and volunteers. Together, you will nurture Major Donor relationships and create and manage appropriate donor stewardship schemes and rationalise our income streams. You’ll ensure grant reporting and management is kept on track whilst developing targeted proposals for new funding from sympathetic donors in the arena of Trusts and foundations. You will work to support both our teaching and resourcing of meditation and the running of our retreat centre in Bonnevaux, near Poitiers in France. An excellent writer with excellent financial and budgeting skills, you will be adept at pulling together relevant, succinct and compelling information for our donor reports and bids. About the Role
The Director of Grants and Operations is a senior role within the Jack Petchey Foundation with responsibility for leading our operations, partnerships and grant-making. You will ensure that our operations are agile, efficient, effective, forward-looking and robust. In addition, you will have strategic responsibility for ensuring our grants and partnerships teams deploy over £10m pa to benefit young people and strengthen the youth sector across London and Essex.
