Job description

About us

The Fawcett Society is the UK’s leading membership charity campaigning for gender equality and women’s rights. Our vision is for a society in which women and girls in all their diversity are equal and truly free to fulfil their potential; creating a stronger, happier better future for us all.

We publish compelling research to educate, inform and lead the debate; we bring together politicians, academics, grassroots activists and wider civil society to develop innovative, practical solutions; we work with employers and in schools and we campaign with women and men to make change happen.

We played a leading role in securing the Equal Pay Act and Sex Discrimination Act. In recent years we have campaigned successfully for the introduction of gender pay gap reporting, for changes in Government policy on sexual harassment following the #MeToo movement, and to get diverse women’s voices heard in new city region devolution. Fawcett is a small national charity with a high profile, and an ambitious agenda.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our busy team and it comes as we all face a challenging time. Fawcett’s focus on women and girls’ lives is critical as the COVID crisis risks turning the clock back on gender equality.  This post will be central to our policy and research team, including leading on a number of projects addressing issues such as different models of paid childcare, response to the pandemic, and women’s hidden volunteering that supports social and medical care.

We are looking for an experienced research and policy specialist with a strong, intersectional understanding of the gender policy issues we work on, who is comfortable working with a range of qualitative and quantitative research approaches and who thrives on being part of a small, dynamic, collaborative team. You will oversee varied projects from inception to delivery, managing budgets and timelines, and will be able to work with the team to campaign for the changes your reports recommend. The role offers opportunities to present to audiences and the media.

We offer

You will be able to work flexibly, anywhere from 2.5 to 5 days per week, from home or in our London office as preferred. We offer 28 days’ leave, 5% employer contribution to pensions, and a generous parental leave package.
