Role Requirements

The role holder will assist in maintaining high standards of professional competence and integrity in the finance team and play a pivotal role in supporting the Head of Finance in running the overall finance department.

Oversight of the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger

Responsibility for internal controls; prompt reconciliations of control accounts, separation of duties, and compliance with proscribed systems of authorisation

Assist in the preparation of annual accounts, in compliance with the SORP and relevant GAAP.  Liaison with external and internal auditors

Lead in preparation of the annual cash flow forecast, and preparation of monthly reconciliations between forecast and actual

Bank reconciliations and posting of transactions

Month end processes and journals

Manage the purchase ledger function, ensuring the ledger is kept clean and at an acceptable level.  Ensure the Purchase Ledger Manager is maintaining the sub ledgers within purchase ledger

Assist with the credit control function, in liaison with relevant service leads. This will be supported by KPIs

Oversee the Fundraising Accountant role, ensuring accuracy of reconciliations between Fundraising and Finance 

Manage the Fixed Asset Register, ensuring its accuracy

Submission of the quarterly VAT returns and VAT reconciliations

Ad hoc Projects as required by the Head of Finance

An exciting position has arisen for a Financial Accountant to work for an excellent West London Community Based Charity to provide some critical support to year end. The postholder will be assisting the Head of Finance produce the annual accounts and preparations for audit.

Key responsibilities:

• Planning, preparation, and delivery of statutory reports, publications, external audits, and drafting the annual report and accounts within agreed timetables
• Supporting the Head of Finance in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all the Trust’s financial records
• Working with the Head of Finance, complete and document the Charity’s rent lease incentive calculation (FRS102 on work related to lease incentive and adjustments)
• Producing a detailed audit schedule in a timely manner for review

CILIP has an excellent opportunity for an experienced and dynamic hands-on Financial Controller to join the team in a busy and diverse role.  Initially on a 12-month fixed-term contract, working flexibly between home and the office location in London (NW1).

The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations of CILIP’s Finance department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, cashflow forecasting, and the implementation of robust financial controls across CILIP, its subsidiaries, and Member Networks. The role holder is responsible for management accounting and ensuring compliance with statutory obligations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Oversight and leadership of the day to day running of CILIP’s Finance department including financial reporting, cashflow forecasting, controls and transactions for CILIP, its subsidiaries, and Member Networks.
• Oversee Management Accounting and accounting policies in line with FRS 102.
• Review of balance sheet ensuring all accounts reconcile and ensuring the validity of all balances.
• Ensure that required statutory obligations and external reporting to bodies such as HMRC, the Charity Commission, Companies House, and ONS is carried out in an accurate and timely manner.
• Lead an ongoing review of internal processes and systems to ensure the integrity of accounting systems, and drive process improvement and efficiency into the operations of the business.
• Managing the relationship with external auditors
• Support a ‘business partnering’ approach within the organisation.

As a proactive member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will contribute to the achievement of CILIP’s objectives and collaborate closely with the Sector Development team to align financial operations with the organisation's strategic goals. Additionally, you will support the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) in finalising the legacy defined benefit pension scheme exit and ensure ongoing compliance with pension and life assurance schemes.

About the role:

As the Director of Finance, you will play a critical role in shaping the financial strategy and ensuring the financial health of our charity. You will be a member of the executive team and work closely to manage budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance, providing the insights necessary for informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

• Developing and overseeing the company’s financial planning and strategy, ensuring alignment with our charitable goals.
• Overseeing financial controls and reporting processes.
• Managing and developing strategies for working capital and treasury management.
• Ensuring operational finance, accounting and tax and audit compliance to meet all regulatory and legal requirements, managing risk effectively.

You will have:

• Worked in a senior finance role, preferably as a Director of Finance or similar position ideally in the charity sector.

• Comprehensive knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in financial software and tools, with the ability to implement and optimise financial systems.
