To help us with this important mission, we’re looking for a Community Engagement Officer to join the team and play a key role in ensuring we achieve our objectives of engaging with and increasing physical activity levels amongst the four key priority groups facing the greatest inequalities: low socio-economic groups, women and girls, disabled people and people with long term health conditions, and culturally diverse communities.
This is an exciting time to be joining the Football Foundation and this is a great opportunity to use your knowledge and experience of place-based working and community engagement to make a real difference through community sports.

The Foundation’s goal is to unlock the power of pitches ensuring everyone has a great place to play regardless of gender, race, disability or place
The role
As Community Engagement Officer you will play a key role in ensuring the Foundation achieves its objectives of engaging with and increasing physical activity levels amongst the four key priority groups facing the greatest inequalities: low socio-economic groups, women and girls, disabled people and people with long term health conditions, and culturally diverse communities. This will predominantly be achieved through the critical support you will provide to our ambitious PlayZones Programme, as we continue to roll the programme out across priority areas of the Country.
We have an ambition to deliver in excess of 200 PlayZone facilities by 2025. To realise this ambition, we’re going to focus on investing in safe, inclusive, and accessible facilities in communities with the greatest need. You must be educated to HND/Degree standard, or with the equivalent experience, with knowledge of how sports development can be used for community benefit. You must have strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience of communicating with and supporting a diverse range of colleagues and customers remotely.
Your knowledge of place-based working and how to best reach and engage with local communities will be key for this role, as well as your understanding of the inequalities that exist in supporting active lives across socio economic groups, women & girls, individuals with a disability or a long-term health condition, and culturally diverse communities. You will be aware of and have experience of dealing with the operations and challenges faced by community organisations, charities, and the voluntary sector.
You must be highly organised, with working knowledge of different project management techniques and experience of managing multiple projects at the same time. While not essential, experience of producing robust reports and of using dashboards to monitor the progress of projects would be useful.
How we achieve our goals is equally important to us. We are striving to be an inclusive and diverse organisation which reflects the diverse communities, users and beneficiaries of our work and the outcomes we deliver. About Bite Back 2030
We’re surrounded by junk food. From the moment we're born, every second of every day, children are being targeted. Giant companies manipulate them with colourful, cuddly, clever marketing, deceive them with packaging claims and pump products at them that are full of junk. It's become the cultural wallpaper. Now, it risks endangering the health of a generation.
In the UK, nearly a third of children aged 2-15 face a higher risk of food-related ill health in their futures. The good news is, it's preventable. And we're biting back.
Bite Back is a youth activist movement challenging a food system that's been set up to fool us all by:
1) Calling out the manipulation of the junk food giants.
2) Demanding higher standards from food marketing and from everyday food itself.
3) Mobilising and equipping young people in the fight for better food.
We do all this so we can bite back against a global epidemic of food-related ill health.
About Bite Back in Schools
Bite Back has delivered our youth social action programme — Bite Back in Schools— to over 120 schools over the last two years. Working with secondary schools, we have supported over 2,000 11-14 year olds to plan and deliver social action projects to prioritise child health by improving their school food. This could be by making nutritious and sustainable food the norm by increasing the flow of healthy options in their canteens, or by redesigning the school food experience to put healthy options in the spotlight.
With funding awarded from the #iWill Fund, we are recruiting a brilliant cohort of schools who will join the programme in September 2024. Our programme model combines an assembly delivered by a Bite Back young ambassador, five hours of curriculum time sessions for a whole year group, and our ever-popular and impactful School Food Champions (SFC) extra-curricular club. About the National Suicide Prevention Alliance (NSPA)
The NSPA network has grown significantly since 2020. The number of organisations working with us has almost doubled and individual membership has increased four-fold. Whilst those running suicide prevention programmes are a significant proportion of our membership, a growing number are those whose core business is not suicide prevention but who recognise the need to take action and are seeking support to do so.
There are more organisations than ever working to prevent suicide and it can be difficult to navigate the wealth of information available and connect with organisations that may be undertaking similar/ relevant work. Some may be unaware of or find it difficult to access evidence around what works, what is already happening and what can be built upon.
Why NSPA?
Make a real difference in the lives of those affected by suicide, all whilst working in a supportive and inclusive environment. As our NSPA Content & Engagement Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in leading our efforts to drive meaningful change to help prevent suicide.
Your Role
You’ll lead the development and delivery of a suicide prevention community engagement strategy and plan, including an online hub and ambassador initiative to support capacity building in suicide prevention across England. You will:
• Develop a more strategic approach to our engagement with members
• Support the next step in the development of our network by building an online community hub, to support on-going knowledge-sharing, community connection and depth of engagement with our wide range of members.
• Have the opportunity to build and manage relationships with NSPA members, people with lived experience and other key stakeholders.
• Manage the NSPA’s communications, working closely with the Membership & Communications Officers with strategic input from the Executive Lead.
Emotional Resilience
In this role you may be exposed to detailed information and personal stories of suicide, which may be upsetting. We will discuss this with you at interview stage however this role does require a good level of emotional resilience. Support is in place both from the organisation and within the team.

Samaritans is wholly committed to inclusion and diversity and to building a culture and environment where everyone is appreciated for the unique person they are. In this busy and exciting supporter-facing role, you’ll provide stewardship to our brilliant fundraisers organising events from bake sales and balls to tractor runs and sponsored walks. And, alongside the other community fundraiser executives, you’ll be the first point of contact for supporters, playing a key role in the smooth day to day running of the programme.
Through excellent relationship management, you’ll inspire our supporters to see through their fundraising plans, raise as much as possible and continue to support the charity in a way that’s right for them.
