Head of development jobs

Head of Programmes is a key role with significant scope to grow as the charity evolves. You’ll lead on the day-to-day delivery of our programmes, including our largest single programme, Maths Circles: a small-group-based maths enrichment programme engaging talented young mathematicians nationwide. You will coordinate a large community of volunteers as well as our in-house team of part-time and freelance staff to deliver an excellent experience for students, parents, tutors and partners.

You will need to be genuinely enthusiastic about using our CRM and Google Sheets to track progress and excited about martialling the charity’s data to communicate clearly with colleagues, partners and trustees. You will take ownership of programme reporting and KPIs, using insights to identify and implement delivery improvements and demonstrate impact.

You will communicate regularly with our diverse community – including speaking directly to young people and parents to resolve issues, recruiting and training education professionals and meeting with partners to organise and manage projects. Beyond programme delivery, you’ll play a crucial part in fundraising, communications, recruitment and planning and will occasionally deputise for the Foundation Director in representing the charity externally.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, delivery and continuous improvement of programme operations
• Drive impact by setting, monitoring and reporting on KPIs (e.g. attendance, retention, satisfaction) whilst sharing insights with partners and funders
• Coordinate and support a team of part-time staff, freelancers and delivery contractors
• Lead communications with parents, students, tutors and external partners
• Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (training provided)
• Support fundraising, charity development and strategic planning
• Support recruitment and onboarding of staff, volunteers and collaborators

About the Role

• Monitor, analyse, and report on fundraising performance, using data-driven insights to identify opportunities and refine approaches.
• Inspire, manage, and develop the fundraising team, fostering a culture of collaboration, high performance, and innovation.
• Ensure policy, governance and compliance with all relevant fundraising legislation and sector regulation.
• Represent the charity in external meetings, building networks and leveraging senior volunteers and Trustees to extend philanthropic reach.
• Translate complex beneficiary needs into compelling cases for support, proposals, and stewardship reports that resonate with donors and partners.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Demonstrated success in major donor fundraising, including personally securing substantial gifts (five and six figures); proven ability to build from scratch, cultivate and maintain relationships with high-net-worth individuals.
• Proven expertise in individual giving, including donor journeys, donor retention and engagement, and developing bespoke campaigns.
• Strong leadership skills, with a track record of building, motivating, and developing high-performing fundraising teams.
• Up-to-date understanding of the fundraising compliance environment (Fundraising Regulator's Code, GDPR, PECR).
• Outstanding communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
• Analytical mindset and the ability to use data to inform strategy, track performance, and drive growth.
• Creative approach to stewardship, recognising, thanking, and meaningfully involving supporters at all levels.
• Passion, resilience, and integrity aligned with the charity’s mission.
• A recognised fundraising qualification (e.g. Certificate/Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Fundraising or equivalent).

It’s an exciting and important time for our charity as we work to help more people out of homelessness and poverty as part of an ambitious strategy. 

The newly created role of Federation Development Lead will sit within the Partnerships and Federation Development directorate, to support the delivery of key charity and federation-wide objectives, as part of our mission to empower people affected by homelessness and poverty to change their lives for the better while using our voice to achieve social change.

The role will also provide a critical role in the implementation and delivery of Emmaus UK’s ambitious plans to seek registration as a provider of social housing. You will build and deliver a fundraising strategy that grows our income while protecting our integrity; lead inclusive, accessible communications that amplify marginalised voices; and nurture a brand that reflects our commitment to social justice and inclusion. Main aim: The Head of Fundraising and Communications is responsible for developing and delivering a coherent, values-aligned fundraising and communications strategy that supports bemix’s mission, values and long-term sustainability. This includes growing diverse income streams, strengthening public and stakeholder engagement, ensuring consistent, accessible and inclusive representation of our work, and embedding strong internal communications and messaging across the organisation.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the postholder also plays a critical role in organisational planning, culture, reputation and long-term development.

Hours: 22.2 hours per week to be worked flexibly as agreed with your Line Manager.

Location: The role offers hybrid working, combining remote and office-based work. The post holder is expected to work from a bemix office for a minimum of two days each week with regular travel to other bemix locations across Kent as required. Your office will be based at the Canterbury Innovation Centre, University of Kent site. Cardiomyopathy UK is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting people affected by cardiomyopathy – a disease of the heart muscle. We provide vital information, support services, and campaign for improved diagnosis and care. As we grow our reach and impact, we are expanding our fundraising and marketing capacity to secure sustainable income, diversify our supporter base, and build greater public awareness of cardiomyopathy.

The Role

We are seeking an ambitious and strategic Head of Fundraising and Marketing to lead the development and delivery of our fundraising and marketing strategy. Reporting to the CEO, the postholder will have overall responsibility for driving income growth, diversifying funding streams, and strengthening our brand and reach.

This role will manage a small team, responsible for individual giving, community and events fundraising, grant, legacy and trust income, and marketing. Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership and Alignment
