The Role:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our Finance team. This role will support the smooth operation of our financial administration processes, working closely with programme managers to track project budgets, expenditures, and assist with financial planning for new community initiatives.

You’ll be responsible for day-to-day financial processing, supporting budgeting and planning for new initiatives, and ensuring our systems remain accurate, compliant, and efficient.

Responsibilities:

Financial Administration

• Process invoices, receipts, and expense claims using our accounting software
• Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions across multiple funding streams
• Assist with monthly bank reconciliations
• Support the preparation of monthly management accounts and budget monitoring reports
• Handle accounts payable and receivable processes

Project Support

• Work closely with programme managers to track project budgets and expenditure
• Assist with financial planning for new community initiatives
• Support cost analysis for various Trust activities and programmes

Administrative Duties

• Provide general administrative support to the finance team
• Help coordinate annual audit requirements and liaise with external auditors
• Support VAT return preparation and submission
• Maintain filing systems and ensure compliance with data protection requirements
• Handle sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality, especially regarding individuals' personal details and concerns.
• Follow established protocols for data protection and privacy.
• Participate in training sessions related to safeguarding and emergency response.

About the Role

In this new role, you will contribute to enhancing the finance function within a growing and dynamic international charitable foundation. The role will enable you to work and continue your professional development across many aspects of the finance function. 

You will play an important part in our finance team’s further growth and professionalisation as Mission 44 extends its reach as a charity working in multiple countries. You will have the opportunity to gain further hands-on experience in driving our day-to-day finance processes, while also leading key projects to enhance our systems and put in place effective financial management of our new US entity. 

This role forms part of our Operations Team, currently comprising our Chief Operating Officer, our Head of Finance and Operations (HoFO), our Chief of Staff, our People and Culture Manager and our Operations Officer. A key part of your role will be acting as finance business partner to our other teams - impact, fundraising and communications - and demonstrating a customer service mindset in helping them achieve their objectives.

We’re looking for a finance professional, newly-qualified or working towards a chartered accountant qualification, wanting to develop their skills and career in a comprehensive finance role and contribute to our mission of helping young people thrive.

Roles and Responsibilities

Accounting (40%)

• Oversee day-to-day transactions, including accounts payable and receivable, for both the UK charity and the newly created US charity
• Ensure that accurate and comprehensive records of accounting evidence for all transactions are maintained
• Monitor cashflow
• Support the HoFO in the month-end process
• Oversee and control monthly payroll with external payroll provider
• Oversee and control VAT returns with external accountants
• Check monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations
• Develop the purchase order system

Financial Planning & Analysis (35%)

• Support the HoFO in the preparation of the monthly management accounts
• Control all accounts payable in dialogue with budget holders
• Finance business partnering with budget holders and the Senior Leadership Team
• Control and account for the use of restricted funds, in alignment with donor requirements and with the Impact team
• Collaborate with the fundraising team to support forecasting and income tracking

Statutory accounts and audit (10%)

• Support the HoFO in the year-end processes
• Support the HoFO in the preparation of statutory accounts, supervising outsourced accountants
• Support audit requests
• Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards, including charity-specific requirements

Operations (15%)

• Responsible for the financial management of grant payments, in coordination with Grant Managers and Grant Budget Holders
• Drive good practice in procurement and manage the relationship with suppliers
• Support the wider Ops team in ad hoc projects and activities

Skills and experience

Essential

• Newly qualified or part qualified, working towards a chartered accountant qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
• Able to be hands-on in a small finance team
• Able to drive relationships with outsourced accountants
• Fluent in using spreadsheets for financial information
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly explain complex financial data and concepts to non-finance staff and stakeholders to support decision-making
• Strong critical thinker with keen attention to detail
• Experience of project management and knowledge of project management principles
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably within the non-profit sector

The Head of Media is responsible for the Spokesperson Network and helping people in NEON’s networks make the most of media opportunities. They lead on strategy, developing high-level media contacts and managing staff associated with the programme. 

You will be someone who knows how to land stories and spokespeople in the media, capitalising on media and movement moments to push the conversation in a progressive direction. About the Role

This is a dual-role position supporting both the Finance and HR functions of the charity. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting budget management, and ensuring smooth day-to-day HR operations. What you will do

Finance

· Post transactions into our accounting software, Xero, ensuring that everything is accurately recorded and coded.

· Work with the HR Lead to ensure that HR policies and procedures are up to date and compliant with legislation.

· Organise mandatory training for staff and maintain training records.

· Assist in the payroll process by providing accurate HR data to the finance team.

Flexibility

Our staff who live in or near London operate on a hybrid model, working in our office within South Bank University (one minute from Elephant and Castle tube station) on Mondays and Tuesdays. Full-time staff work in the office both those days and at home the rest of the week, while part-time staff who live in or near London are required to work in the office on one of those days, and at home for the rest of the week. We also have staff outside London who are fully home-based. We would ideally like the Finance and HR Officer to work in the London office on either Monday or Tuesday (or both if they would prefer that) but we are flexible as to when in the week the remainder of the hours are worked, provided that there is a consistent working pattern each week.

We are recruiting a Interim Head of Engagement who will share our compassion and commitment for animal welfare, to provide inspirational leadership and strategic direction to the Engagement team and for staff and volunteers across the charity.

Our Interim Head of Engagement is integral to our ambition to broaden our reach and deepen our impact by shaping and leading the delivery of our engagement strategies and working on integrated campaigns with Fundraising. This is a highly visible and hugely important role for Mayhew, both internally and externally.

There are four key aspects to the role – collaboratively leading the charity as part of our Senior Management Team, development and implementation of all our internal and external engagement (including content and comms architecture), management and development of the Engagement team, and influencing and stakeholder management.

As a manager, we are looking for an inspiring and engaging coaching approach to the team, focusing on empowerment and development of the team and individuals. Our Head of Engagement must be an experienced and effective communicator who can inspire loyalty, trust and enthusiasm in their team and across the organisation.

Generally, you will:

• Communicate our work, internally and externally, in ways that cultivate a shared understanding about the difference we make - and why it matters now more than ever
• Deliver innovative integrated campaigns across all our channels to convert recognition into active support and build a thriving Mayhew community
• Increase brand awareness and brand attribution including by leading our brand, external communication and press and PR activities
• Embed engagement and collaboration across the organisation, ensuring everyone who works and volunteers for the charity feels engaged in growing our profile, reach and income
• Be a positive, empathetic leader within the organisation, inspiring your team and leading by example.

To be successful in this role, you need relevant experience in:

• A senior marketing and communications role in an organisation of comparable breadth and scope
• Developing and leading delivery of strategies across marketing, content and digital engagement that support organisational priorities
• Stakeholder management across a range of internal and external audiences, including building long term relationships and partnerships
• Being a great networker and ambassador, confident and comfortable inspiring support for the charity
• Successfully motivating, managing, and developing a high performing team
