• Capacity to provide robust analysis; ability to present complex information/data simply to a range of audiences
• Ability to produce concise narrative performance analysis with good attention to detail

• Background / strong understanding of restricted/institutional funding for development.

Job Purpose:

This is a dynamic and developmental role designed for a candidate with at least 1 years' experience in fundraising or marketing within an arts or charitable organisation. The role is split evenly across fundraising and marketing and communications and will contribute directly to NYJO’s growth and sustainability by supporting our external affairs through income generation, audience engagement, and public profile.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising (2 days per week)

Trusts, Foundations and Statutory Funding

• Conduct research and develop profiles on prospective trusts and statutory funders

• Draft briefing notes and maintain an up-to-date prospect pipeline

• Support grant administration: acknowledgements, processing, and internal logging

• Assist with preparation of Arts Council England reporting

• Draft small trust applications (up to £10k) with guidance from Head of Fundraising

• Help gather content, data and evidence to support medium/large bid development

• Lead the collation and drafting of funder reports  

Individual Giving & Membership

• Administer NYJO’s membership scheme (renewals, fulfilment, member queries)

The role

Team: Fundraising

*This role sits within a pay grade with a pay range of £26,887 to £42,371. The salary on appointment will be set at the lower end of the pay range, to a maximum of £34,629 depending on the candidate's skills and experience. This approach aims to ensure fair compensation for new hires while maintaining alignment with the structured pay scale for the role.

Context and purpose of the role

It’s an exciting time to join the Ramblers as we have recently refreshed our strategy to support the delivery of our long-term ambitions.

You will join a small, high-performing team responsible for generating £5 million per year from individual giving, legacies, grants and corporate partners, all to deliver the Ramblers ambition for a future where everyone can enjoy the benefits of walking in nature.

Working closely with the Product & Innovation Manager, you will play a key role in delivering the fundraising strategy, leading on the delivery of our individual giving and legacy marketing campaigns across a range of channels. You will create high-quality, compelling campaign materials and ensure an excellent donor experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Income generation

• Play a key role in the implementation and delivery of the individual giving and legacy marketing strategy
• Support the growth of individual giving income in line with annual targets
• Develop and deliver regular cash and legacy marketing appeals to a high level, including:
  • Developing propositions and cases for support
  • Create compelling direct marketing materials, including writing persuasive copy and developing strong creative content
  • Project management to ensure delivery on schedule and within budget
  • Managing relationships with agencies and suppliers including design and print
• Manage a portfolio of affiliate fundraising campaigns

Donor stewardship

• Ensure the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system is used effectively to facilitate accurate supporter stewardship and reporting
• Effectively manage communications with supporters, including ensuring that donations are thanked appropriately, managing fundraising inboxes, and responding to queries
• Working with the Production & Innovation Manager, identify a pipeline of potential mid- and high-value donors for stewardship and conversion

Data and reporting

• Produce campaign and programme level reporting and analysis
• Work closely with the data team to ensure selections are accurate, timely and relevant to our various audiences, and use income data to make recommendations for future campaigns
• Maintain accurate, up to date and compliant records of individual giving campaigns and appeals
• Provide regular financial reports and reforecasts to the Product & Innovation Manager and Head of Fundraising

Relationships

• Build strong working relationships with staff within various functions of the Ramblers
• Work with other members of the Fundraising, Communications and Supporter Care teams to ensure that all supporter communications are part of an integrated supporter journey

The Person

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Experience working within a target-driven fundraising or direct marketing team, ideally within an individual giving context
• Experience of managing fundraising or marketing projects across a range of channels, such as direct mail, social media and email
• Experience of data-driven marketing campaigns, including segmentation and campaign analysis to meet objectives
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to tailor communications to a wide range of audiences
• Excellent creative skills, including the ability to write compelling, accurate and persuasive copy across a range of channels
• Competent in the use of IT tools including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Experience of working with CRM systems

Desirable:

• Experience of working with the Salesforce CRM
• Experience of legacy marketing, or an understanding of charity legacy giving
• Experience of using digital marketing tools including Mailchimp and social media advertising platforms
• Familiarity with relevant legislation and guidance, including UK data protection law and the Code of Fundraising Practice

This includes pre-event planning and development, concept development and proposal.

Working closely with the Head of Capital Appeal and Senior Philanthropy and Partnerships Manager, you will design and deliver events which steward and develop key contacts as part of our Capital Appeal.

The role holder will have strong administration skills, attention to detail and work as part of a team.  You will be self-motivated and able to work with little supervision, managing a wide range of tasks.

35 hours per week / 52 weeks per year

Who are we?

The Global Foundations & Institutional Donors team is comprised of 12 colleagues working with either Institutional Donors or Foundations based in Copenhagen, Berlin, Brussels, Geneva and Kyiv. DRC funds come from a variety of sources - institutional donors such as the European Commission, UN agencies, and bilateral humanitarian and development funding envelopes from major donor countries, but increasingly also foundations - both Danish and International. Together with the rest of the department, the GFID team is working to increase DRC’s capacity and ambition to scope, expand, deepen, and strengthen partnerships and fundraising activities.
 

About the job

As Senior Partnership Advisor you will be part of the Global Foundation and Institutional Donors section (GFID) working directly with the Head of Global Foundation and Institutional Donors, colleagues based in HQ, DRC Representations in Geneva, Brussels and Berlin, and regionally with the Regional Business Development Coordinators. Your overall responsibility will be to support DRC’s capacity strengthening to maintain and improve donor relationships and fundraising efforts.

The Senior Partnership Advisor oversees the engagement and fundraising efforts focusing primarily on FCDO and the UK-based foundations, potentially there would also be some coverage of non-core donors like Irish Aid, Jersey Aid etc. You are tasked with undertaking analyses, elaborating donor intelligence, to inform and advise senior management and colleagues about partnership development as well as fundraising opportunities.
 

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Strategy

• Support design and advancement of the global donor engagement strategy based on the FCDOs’ donor trends and priorities, (and relevant non-core donors).
• Mapping and scoping of UK-based foundations with the support of the wider GFID team.
• Lead the development of donor-specific engagement action plans for the FCDO and relevant foundations and steer their implementation.

Partnership Engagement

• Lead on a strong and strategic partnership between DRC and FCDO at capital level and UK-based Foundations and engage proactively with FCDO (and relevant non-core donors) to address challenges and opportunities related to DRC’s partnership at global level and inform/advise ROs/COs accordingly. Develop tools and guidance to support engagement with FCDO
• Provide support and expertise to DRC country and regional operations on the partnership.
• Represent DRC in dialogues with core donors on regulatory frameworks and actively participate in relevant events and coordination mechanisms with peer organisations or other networks and platforms.

Donor intelligence and knowledge management

• Monitor and analyse relevant trends and donor intelligence and provide strategic advice on possible impact and ways to adapt across all levels of the organization for FCDO, relevant UK foundations and /or non-core donors).
• Develop qualitative and quantitative analyses to feed into donor trends and global donor analyses, lessons learned, and other dissemination documents.

Partnership Management – externally and internally

• For FCDO funding, develop tools, platforms, and internal workflows for efficient strategic donor compliance (this includes maintaining DRC Insite donor pages, updating and publishing internal guidance tools such as Donorpedias, fact sheets etc.).
• Strengthen capacities of Grants Management Unit staff on FCDO policies and guidelines.
   

Occasional travel will be expected to DRC HQ, DRC representations or DRC country offices

About you

To excel in this role, you will have natural communication and social skills, including networking and the ability to influence. You are comfortable navigating internal stakeholders horizontally and vertically, and representing DRC externally with donors, peer organisations and in other forums.

You have strong knowledge of FCDO’s structure and funding priorities, including regulatory frameworks and contracting. This role calls for someone who is both a “thinker” and a “doer” - an ability to work on strategic-level analyses while being detailed as well as being results and service-oriented.

• Documented extensive experience with institutional donors and donor engagement, and in particular, FCDO
