The RCR is a charity with a focus on supporting doctors who deliver medical imaging and cancer services and we require a passionate and dynamic finance professional to helps us continue making a difference.
The Head of Finance will manage the high-performing finance team consisting of a Management Accountant, Assistant Accountant and Finance Business Partner. Sitting in the Business and Resources Directorate the team are instrumental to the successful running of the RCR. In this role you will be responsible for the operational finance function which handles accounting, financial reporting, planning and transactional activities as well as supporting longer-term strategic planning.
As a finance professional you will use your expertise to further support the RCR by delivering the organisations financial objectives and build strong working relationships with managers to equip them with the tools to make good financial decisions. Furthermore, you will support the Executive Director, Business & Resources in the delivery of effective risk management activities and reporting, lead discussions on how our financial controls and processes may need to change and adapt, shape and drive business performance to ensure your leadership of the finance function results in the delivery of excellent services.
What you’ll do:
- Lead, motivate and develop the finance team to deliver essential business services adapting and anticipating changes in business needs.
- Develop, agree and maintain a suite of internal service standards to meet business needs.
- Plan and lead the organisation’s financial budget process ensuring a comprehensive capture of business needs and advise SMT and managers.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly financial management accounts are produced according to appropriate standards.

Education should be the means to break the link between demographics and destiny. Yet every week 109 children in England – equivalent to three full classrooms – are asked to leave their schools and never come back, with disastrous personal and societal consequences. The Difference, a young education charity, was founded to change the story on this lost learning. It exists to build the status and expertise of teachers working with vulnerable children, particularly those who are excluded from mainstream schools.
By 2030, The Difference want rates of exclusion and absence to be falling nationally and for schools to be better equipped to support all children, including those who may be vulnerable.
The organisation was born out of a year of research into school exclusions with think-tank IPPR. This research identified a lack of inclusion expertise in schools and proposed a new leadership development programme to fill this gap. In 2018, The Difference founder Kiran hired the team who took this idea from concept to reality, beginning work with our first schools.
The Difference is now a 22-strong team delivering multiple school leadership programmes, alongside a growing research and policy arm. The team is supported by our Youth Advisory Board, made up of young people who have experienced exclusion and who provide their expertise and insights on how school inclusion work should be done. This work is needed more than ever. Effects of COVID-19, coupled with the spiralling cost of living, have substantially increased levels of vulnerability. Schools serving excluded pupils face under-funding. The Difference has had excellent early impact but there is work ahead to capture this, share learning with schools and policy-makers, and grow our capacity to lower exclusions across England.
Our first permanent Head of Fundraising will drive the growth and sustainability of our fundraising function. Having proved the impact on exclusions via our programmes, you will help us generate the income to scale this success across the country. We need an expert fundraiser to support this journey. Key Responsibilities
- Drive the delivery of a new fundraising strategy for The Difference, motivating and involving key members of the team, particularly the Development and Impact Manager.
- Build and manage a dynamic portfolio of around 20-30 major individual prospects and donors with capacity to give £50k+, working with key stakeholders to solicit and close asks.
- Grow overall fundraised income from £1.25m to £1.9m annually in next 3 years.
- Write and submit funding proposals to major donors, trusts and foundations, and corporate supporters.
- Support the creation of engaging content from our impact data and case studies, for The Difference’s website and social media that could lead to online fundraising, including feeding into writing press releases as required.

About the role
You will enable the Fundraising and Partnerships team to achieve their income targets by leading the Prospect Research & Insight team to plan and deliver strong, long-term pipelines, to manage them effectively, and to maximise the value of data in our fundraising.

Role Particulars
Working Pattern: Full time working hours, including weekly in-person team meetings in London: monthly all-staff meetings on Tuesdays twice a month, and weekly on Wednesdays twice a month. The nature of this role means that some travel and working away from home will be required, as agreed in advance. For a small but vital refugee charity, we are recruiting an Interim Head of Finance for 3 + months, starting ASAP. Reporting to the CEO, the main accountabilities will focus on providing insightful monthly management accounts and reporting to the Senior Leadership Team and Trustees / Board, and to ensure the correct allocation of expenditure to a high number of grant funds. Prostate Cancer Research is seeking a Head of Individual Giving to oversee their individual donor, legacy and in memory income streams, currently raising approximately £800k per annum.
Prostate Cancer Research aims to develop and deliver breakthrough medicines and treatments to achieve a world where people are free from the impact of prostate cancer. The charity believes that it is only through research that we can build a future in which no family will have to fear losing a loved one to prostate cancer. In the last four years the charity has expanded the amount of research it funds by four times.
This is a newly created role to increase the impact of the fundraising strategy, lead on its implementation and set the foundations for the future growth in an area of fundraising where the charity believes there is huge potential. It’s also an exciting opportunity to take the results of a current strategic review on individual giving and take the insight and tools gathered to build the individual giving programme and develop a strategy for people, products and campaigns to grow income.
The charity is seeking a professional with a great understanding and track record of success in individual giving and who is keen to explore new audiences and innovative approaches. You will have experience in executing acquisition, retention and growth strategies and of achieving significant income growth through individual donations, in memory and legacy income streams. he Fundraising Officer will work as part of the Fundraising team and focus on delivering income targets from trusts and foundations. The role is responsible for growing LDCT’s trust and foundation income by increasing the amount and longevity of funding from current supporters, as well as building a portfolio of new trusts and foundations through research, maintaining a pipeline of prospects, updating the Funding Matrix and making successful applications. Building good relationships with new funders including regular reporting, as well as good stewardship of existing funders, is an important part of the role.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Delivering on fundraising priorities and targets for trusts and foundations income, including our current and future major appeals.
- Researching, identifying, and prioritising appropriate trusts and foundations to maintain and convert a pipeline of new, prospective trusts and foundations.
- Working with colleagues across the organisation to help shape projects for funding and creating strong Cases for Support to ensure effective applications.
- Writing and submitting high quality targeted funding applications.
- Maintaining an effective stewardship programme for trusts and foundations including appropriate accurate records, ensuring the fundraising e-Tapestry database is kept up-todate and that fundraising income is processed efficiently with timely thank you letters and acknowledgements.
- Managing relationships with existing and new funders to encourage maximum funding, multi-year funding awards and repeat funding.
- Monitoring outcomes, updating the Funding Matrix and producing timely reports and information as required externally by funders and internally for Management reporting.
- Promoting the support of funders through press releases and social media posts.
- Adhering to standards of fundraising best practise as set out in the Institute of Fundraising’s Code of Practise and ensuring all activities comply with relevant Data Protection obligations and any other legislation

The Head of Philanthropy will play a pivotal role in fostering strong connections between the school and our alumni and parent community. This is a senior fundraising role, reporting into the Director of Development. You will be required to manage and develop a portfolio of high-level funders (both from the UK and international), securing philanthropic donations, whilst also stewarding our donors effectively, creating innovative and compelling ways to demonstrate the impact of their philanthropic support.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will need to:
- Be able to demonstrate a track record of securing, administering, and stewarding significant gifts from donors, or significant experience in leading income generation activity through regular giving programmes within the charitable sector.
- Work with the Head, Bursar, Director of Development, Foundation Trustees, and other senior colleagues and volunteers to research, plan and undertake donor cultivation and solicitation meetings.
- Maintain positive working relationships with all constituents in the King’s community, including alumni, parents, and pupils to encourage lifelong engagement through participation, advocacy, and support.
- Be a great problem solver with the ability to work laterally to identify opportunities and provide solutions to fundraising challenges.
- Work with the Director of Development on developing a methodical fundraising programme, ranging from regular contributions, through to major gifts and legacies. Implementing the development fundraising strategy to support the school’s vision and bursary ambitions.
- Be experienced in using donor and potential donor relationship management systems, for example Raiser’s Edge or ToucanTech.
