Head of jobs in friern barnet, greater london
JUSTICE is looking for a motivated and organised Communications Officer to help us build a fairer UK justice system. The postholder will translate complex legal issues into compelling, clear writing, and believe in the power of communication to change minds and build broad support for change.
The postholder will communicate JUSTICE’s work to our key audiences using press, digital media, and printed publications, and will report to the Head of Communications. Responsibilities include working with journalists to gain coverage, managing our website and social media accounts, and producing printed materials. You will play a key role in communicating our work and improving engagement with our members and supporters.
JUSTICE is a law reform charity working to build a fairer UK justice system within everyone’s reach. Over our 68-year history we have transformed the legal landscape for the better, led by evidence, expertise, and a focus on practical solutions. Our work spans the whole justice system – from family and housing law to policing, benefits decision making, and more – touching the lives of people across the country.
We are a founding member of The Justice Hub, situated next to St Paul’s Cathedral in London. We also have staff based in other locations including Manchester, Sheffield and Edinburgh. As a UK wide organisation, we are keen to support team members from all over the UK and this role can be fulfilled in a hybrid way. Our London base has hot desks dedicated to JUSTICE and access to meeting rooms, and we work alongside other like-minded charities in the justice sector as part of the Hub.
All team members are expected to join the ‘in-person’ days in the office (roughly 5 days a year) but otherwise we encourage and support flexible working. In addition, this role requires a minimum of 1-2 days per month working in our London office. Alongside flexible working conditions, every member of staff is entitled to 27 days annual leave plus an additional two days of leave to look after your wellbeing and to celebrate your birthday. We also close the office between 25 December and 1 January (inclusive), which is addition to the annual leave mentioned above.
In addition to annual spinal salary increases, we review salaries according to inflationary changes on an annual basis, contribute 8% to your pension for the first 2 years, rising to a 10.5% thereafter, and offer generous parental and dependency-related leave. As part of looking after your wellbeing, we also provide access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
The candidate pack can be found on our website.
To be considered for this role, please complete the application form, which can be found on our website. This is a readvertisement of this role; if you previously applied for the role, please do not resubmit the same application.
Please note you cannot save your progress on the application form and return to it later. To see the questions in advance please download them on our website.

For over 40 years, Sister Circle has stood beside women facing complex health and social challenges. From navigating maternity care to accessing women's health support, our trained volunteers walk alongside other women with compassion, understanding, and advocacy. Our volunteers form a community of women bound by a shared passion for making a difference for other women. Our volunteers are the golden threads, holding our programmes together, bringing possibility to everything we do. They are our Maternity Mates, peer group supporters for those who have expereinced birth trauma or baby loss, trainee counsellors, language translators and so much more.
We are looking for a passionate, organised, and person-focused individual to guide our volunteers through their training and support journeys — from that very first conversation to being fully prepared and confident in their volunteer role. You will coordinate and lead on tasks that ensure a smooth, supportive volunteer experience where each thrives, while also creating spaces for connection, celebration, and storytelling.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is highly organised and confident managing multiple priorities.
- Has experience of working with volunteers from diverse and marginalised backgrounds
- Has a commitment to safeguarding, trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practice

- Builds trust and strong relationships across diverse communities.
- Enjoys celebrating the achievments of volunteers and showing how much they are appreciated
- Is comfortable with admin, databases, and digital tools.
- Can balance attention to detail with big-picture thinking.
This is a role for someone who loves both the detail and connection — someone who believes in the power of women lifting each other up.

• CV (Max 2 pages)
• A Covering Letter letting us know why you would like to work with us and in this role, how your work and experience meet the essential and desirable requirements for this role. Be you and let your passion for volunteering and our work shine through.
Applications without a covering letter and received after the deadline will not be considered.
Closing date: Thursday 4th September 2025 at midday.
Interviews: Friday 12th September (a short presentation will be requested)

You'll support the delivery of impactful campaigns - shifting hearts and minds from day one.
From crafting emails that inspire people to take action, to brainstorming graphics that cut through the noise, to getting stuck into the behind-the-scenes-detail that gets a campaign out the door, you’ll be working hard, fast and learning everyday.
We don’t expect a Digital Campaigns Assistant to know everything about digital campaigning in a political space. But you’ll come with at least 1-2 years experience in digital roles or where you've used digital as a core discipline.
Day-to-day you will:
-
Craft punchy emails, petitions, event forms and action pages that move people to action
-
Brainstorm beautiful posters, social media graphics and videos that cut through the noise
-
Draft compelling and moving video scripts
-
Post powerful content and copy on social media, keeping our campaign channels active and inspiring
-
Help develop and moderate our online supporter communities
-
Help us administrate and understand our campaigns and audiences better by getting your head into data entry, analysis, and research
-
Create and build peer-to-peer text or phone banking campaigns, seeing them through end-to-end
-
Build confidence in a variety of digital tools - like Action Network, Airtable, Favro, Slack, CallHub, GetThru and Front - to achieve maximum impact in campaigns
You'll also have an opportunity to learn more about campaigning as a craft at Small Axe across creative, production and organising.
Occasionally that will mean getting stuck into helping to produce campaign events like petition hand-ins or creative stunts, conferences or film and photoshoots. You might build relationships with spokespeople and feed into campaign strategy.
We move people to act on the most pressing issues of our time

The Organisation
The Chartered College of Teaching is a charity and the professional body for teachers. We are working to empower a knowledgeable and respected teaching profession through membership and accreditation.
We are dedicated to bridging the gap between practice and research and equipping teachers from the moment they enter the classroom with the knowledge and confidence to make the best decisions for their pupils.
Our activities mainly focus on four key areas:
- membership
- teacher CPD and accreditation
- research, policy and events
- online and print resources
The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a postgraduate-level researcher who wishes to combine their expertise in education research and astute understanding of real-life classroom practice. While the role will sit within the Chartered College of Teaching, the postholder will also receive mentoring from Professor Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-Life Learning at the University of Winchester, providing a rare opportunity to combine academically rigorous research with real-life application. As part of a project funded by the Comino Foundation, the Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist will help to increase teachers’ assessment literacy by managing a portfolio of assessment-themed online events, developing a suite of assessment-themed resources, co-ordinating the work of the Next Generation Assessment group and developing an overview of evidence-informed teaching and assessment strategies and how they link to intended student outcomes, based on a series of rapid evidence reviews.
Over the course of the assignment, you will support the Head of Research and Policy and work closely with the Research Lead and the Events and Engagement Manager to create and manage an engaging portfolio of online, assessment-themed events and resources.

The postholder will also be required to collate policy announcements around assessment and monitor any developments relating to the use of EdTech and AI for assessment. The ultimate aim of this work is to help illustrate that the common ‘trad’ versus ‘prog’ debates that still dominate many discussions in education are ultimately unhelpful and teachers need a wide range of different teaching approaches to help support a range of intended learning outcomes. This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes.
