This role at the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) is a key role within the finance team and will help to guide the Senior Team through the provision and ownership of insightful management information.

Job Purpose

Preparing monthly management accounts and quarterly VAT returns for RCVS (the professional membership organisation or ‘College’) in accordance with relevant RCVS policies and UK legislation including UK GAAP and the Charities SORP.

Key Responsibilities

• To prepare accurate monthly cost centre and college wide management accounts for RCVS to an agreed timetable for varying audiences, including variance analysis, with appropriate relevant commentary.
• To review and discuss the cost centre management accounts with the Heads of Department throughout the year and to enhance reporting and understanding
• To prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and review them working with the Transactional Finance Lead.
• To work with the Head of Finance (HoF) preparing budgets, forecasts, financial monitoring and commentary
• To manage departmental cost allocations
• To maintain the chart of accounts and data integrity of the accounting system including deleting and archiving historic financial data as appropriate
• Provide support to the wider finance team
• Liaise with the Transactional Finance Lead in the monitoring of the monthly finance timetable and progression of tasks whilst raising any concerns with the HoF
• Complete and submit quarterly VAT returns (following HoF review) for RCVS in accordance with relevant RCVS policies and UK legislation.
• To support the preparation of the annual financial accounts and supporting workings, analysis and statements and to liaise as appropriate, with the auditors.
• To act as the Finance Risk Champion and to maintain the finance risk register
• To maintain the finance contract register
• To support an approach of continuous improvement to finance systems and processes.
• Monitor the application of the financial controls and to flag any compliance issues or risks
• To provide ad hoc support to the payroll function in the event of team member absence, to ensure continuity of critical payroll operations

Qualifications

• Educated to Degree level
• Finalist or fully qualified with a recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, CIMA, ACCA)

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• Strong background in management accounts
• Previous experience of preparing VAT returns and an understanding of partial-VAT claims.
• Previous experience of preparing financial statements under the Charities SORP
• Knowledge of SAGE200 Professional accountancy software (desired)
• Previous experience of working within the Not-for-Profit Sector
• Previous experience of working within a Regulator, Royal College or Professional Membership body (desirable)
• To demonstrate confidence and clarity when engaging with colleagues across the organisation
• Intermediate excel skills
• Inquisitive with excellent attention to detail

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) brings together 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of humanitarian crisis overseas. This role will require you to lead on organic social media as part of the DEC Communications team, working closely with the Digital and Innovation team in Fundraising, collaborate with social leads across our 15 member charities and public figures through our talent agency. During appeal launch periods it will also involve managing a small social media team of volunteers.

Prostate Cancer Research exists to honour the men and families who have been through things no family should have to go through, and to work for a future where no one needs to fear a prostate cancer diagnosis. 

We are always working to provide resources to help, support and empower patients. Giving them the information they need to make better choices about their treatment, while working to identify and target specific unmet needs in the prostate cancer ecosystem, such as racial inequality and bone metastasis.

It’s been a successful few years for PCR’s Events team with good results across the portfolio, raising over £1.4m (against a target of £800k) in 2023-24 and more than £2.3m in 2024-25 (against a target of £1.7m). The team structure has recently been refreshed, bringing in new roles to ease capacity and ensure the whole team can do their best work – contributing to PCR’s lifesaving mission, developing in their careers and enjoying their jobs within our ambitious and supportive team.

It is an important role which will oversee the innovation, planning and delivery of all third-party events, whilst taking a leading role on wider infrastructure development for the team.

You will work with colleagues across the organisation to seize opportunities, whilst ensuring best practice in our fundraising activity and the delivery of brilliant stewardship during supporters’ participation in third-party events & beyond.

The position reports to the Head of Events & Community and will supervise the work of two Events & Community Executives on relevant projects. Collaboration will be important, including with the other Events team managers who each lead the innovation, planning & delivery of (a) virtual challenge events, and (b) PCR-owned bespoke events. 

We are keen to work together to develop & shape this into an exciting and meaningful role for you. At PCR, we prioritise our team members’ development, and there will be a % of time available to work on other areas of the portfolio for development and interest. However, your main focus will be: 

Strategy, project management and income growth 

• Create and lead the strategy to maximise the value of PCR’s third-party challenge events portfolio, working with the Head of E&C and others to take a long-term view and build this area into a sustainable & growing income stream. 

• Oversee the project management of all third-party events, including the London & Brighton Marathons (and other new events as they are introduced), working with the E&C Executives to ensure targets are met and best practice delivered. 

• Design and deliver ambitious fundraising budgets for your projects which contribute net income towards PCR’s mission. 

• Build good relationships with suppliers, venues, agencies and consultants to ensure great value. 

• Oversee the stewardship of fundraisers, ensuring journeys are relevant & engaging and continuously improved.

• Work with the other Events team managers to contribute to the planning & delivery of other activity areas. 

Product development and innovation 

• Seize the opportunity to grow & improve PCR’s third-party event portfolio, staying up to date with sector trends, identifying new journeys, suppliers & products, and taking a test & learn approach, always ensuring that learnings are captured. For this, there will be realistic budgets & an understanding of the investment needed for new ideas. 

• Develop approaches to engage supporters beyond their initial participation, working with Public Fundraising colleagues & others to test cross-selling journeys and maximise the life-time value of third-party event fundraisers. 

• Maintain a strong level of understanding of PCR’s existing (and target) supporters to create and implement products & stewardship that motivate and inspire them. 

• Alongside the Head of E&C and other Events team managers, embed a culture of innovation and supporter insight. 

• Proactively collaborate internally, working with other teams to identify opportunities which meet PCR’s objectives, including with the Partnerships team to ensure the development & delivery of an employee fundraising programme. 

• Take the lead in developing processes and infrastructure across the Events team that improve efficiency, compliance and best practice, working with other team members to prioritise and deliver this work. 

Team leadership  

• Alongside the other Events team managers, supervise the relevant day-to-day work of the Events & Community Executives to ensure that the projects you are working on together are carried out effectively. 

• Work closely with the Head of E&C and the other Events team managers on team strategy and capacity planning. 

• Work with the team to embed our agile ways of working, modelling the principle of collective responsibility. 

• Attend and contribute to meetings, sharing new ideas and learnings that might be useful for the wider team. 

• Work with the Head of E&C and other Events team managers to embed and model PCR’s organisational values: innovation, collaboration, accountability and championing the patient voice. 

The Events & Community Manager may also get involved with other projects and tasks as appropriate to support Public Fundraising activities. Attendance may be required at some weekend and evening events, for which TOIL will be given.

Skills and Competencies 

Our ideal candidate would be proactive team player, with:

• Confident event and project management skills, including end-to-end planning, budgeting & results tracking. 

• An understanding and (ideally) experience of third-party challenge events or similar peer-to-peer fundraising activity.

• An ability to oversee others’ work, delegate & give feedback effectively, and to take a leadership role within the team. 

• Excellent organisational skills & an ability to juggle multiple competing priorities, identifying the most valuable use of time

• The ability to motivate and inspire a range of audiences through relationship building and storytelling.

• Good attention to detail and IT Skills.

Youth Engagement Officer  

Location: Hybrid. Expected to be in our London office in Victoria at least one day per week. You can be remote every other day or come into the office. Your office days are flexible and can be agreed with your manager, other than for monthly team days where you must be in person. Some nationwide travel expected for Youth Steering Group training days, events and conferences. After passing probation, up to six weeks ‘super remote’ working per year, where you can work anywhere in the world as long as you’re online for four hours of the UK workday.

Contract: Fixed Term Contract until 31 August 2026 with the possibility to extend. 

Holidays: 38 days per year, including our 3-day winter shut down and eight flexible bank holidays.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full time) Please note as this role works with young people there will be occasions where your working hours will be outside the standard 9-5:30pm. This will typically be a few meetings per month that can last until 7pm and about four weekend days over the year. This is to ensure our activities fit around the young people’s education and work commitments.

You will also support and manage the logistics of our Youth Summit, Youth Engagement Working Group and other youth engagement events.

Support our Youth Steering Group to feel safe and confident as they co-lead our Alliance and create change

Our Youth Steering Group is made up of 25 brilliant young people, aged 14-24, who draw on their lived experience of the different barriers to accessing a fair education, to campaign for change. You will support the young people to lead their own campaign activity, write their monthly Youth Bulletin and engage directly with policy makers. You will also help the group to participate in FEA decision making, support the design and facilitation of their monthly meetings and training days, help them make progress against their personal development plans. This role will include working directly with young people, session planning and facilitation, policy research and managing logistics.

Ensure the Fair Education Youth Summit is a success and remains truly youth-led  

Our Youth Steering Group design and run the annual Fair Education Youth Summit. The event is led by young people for young people and brings together young changemakers from across our membership and the wider education and youth sectors to develop their youth leadership skills, collaborate on campaigns, and engage directly with decision makers. You will support the young people to design sessions, secure speakers, embed past feedback and plan the event structure. You will also support with the event logistics, guestlist management, participant communications and collecting attendee feedback.

Support our members to improve their youth engagement practice  

Our Youth Engagement Working Group supports FEA members and other sector organsiations to increase and improve their own youth engagement practice. You will support the management of logistics, promote the workshops, and communicate with working group members. You will also support the facilitation of the workshops and ensure the attendee data and feedback is correctly logged and actioned. The critical responsibilities of this role are described above.
