Job description
Head of Finance & Operations – Maternity Cover (Part Time)
The Dock, Wapping Lane, London

About Us

Action Tutoring is an education charity that supports pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed in school.

In the UK today, young people facing socio-economic disadvantage are less likely to achieve the grades they need to progress in life. This isn’t because they are any less able – it’s because they have less access to tools to support them to realise their potential.

We help to level the playing field by working in partnership with schools to deliver weekly tutoring in English or Maths, to pupils who need it the most.

We are now looking for a Head of Finance and Operations to join our team on a part-time maternity cover contract lasting up to 12 months, ideally starting in May 2020.

The Benefits

- Salary of up to £55,000 pro rata DOE
- Flexible working
- 33 days’ holiday pro rata including Bank Holidays
- Workplace pension
- Team socials and a culture of celebrating

If you are a financial professional with experience in managing budgets and a diverse range of business functions, this is a fantastic opportunity to use your skills and passion to make a real change to disadvantaged young people.

You will receive a comprehensive induction and training so you can hit the ground running and will have the chance to play a key role in maintaining the financial health of our organisation.

So, if you want to lead a dedicated and passionate team to support the growth of a forward-thinking charity, we want to hear from you.

The Role

As the Head of Finance & Operations, you will lead the all non-frontline areas of operations for the charity, overseeing a team and ensuring the efficient delivery of programmes.

You will oversee the financial management and control of the organisation, ensuring that the charity’s operations continue to be a sustainable financial model.

Working closely with the bookkeeper and the CEO, you will produce and monitor monthly management accounts, monitor school and grant income, oversee finance reports to funders and develop annual budgets.

Specifically, you will:

- Oversee operational matters to ensure compliance and efficiency
- Maintain HR administration systems and functions to support team growth
- Line manage the HR, Office and Finance Administrator
- Manage the outsourced bookkeeper and payroll provider
- Support the creation of the fundraising budget plan
- Keep informed of any governance and legislative changes
- Oversee the audit process

About You

To join us as the Head of Finance & Operations, you will need:

- Experience of overseeing finances and managing budgets
- Experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including budgeting, finance, legal, IT and human resources
- Experience of good governance practices
- A strong track record in delivering results in a growing environment, at management level
- The ability to demonstrate a high level of understanding about financial management
- An understanding of developing policies and procedures
- A degree level qualification

Ideally, you will have experience or knowledge of safeguarding procedures, but this is not essential. Formal qualifications relevant to the role, such as ACA, MBA, or CIPD Level 7 would also be beneficial.

Other organisations may call this role Head of Finance, Head of Operations, Senior Financial Manager, Finance Operations Manager, Regional Finance Manager, or Operations Manager.

This is a part-time role, working 22.5 - 30 hours per week, with flexible working options available.

Webrecruit and Action Tutoring are equal opportunities employers, value diversity and are strongly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and all applicants for employment. Equal opportunities are the only acceptable way to conduct business and we believe that the more inclusive our environments are, the better our work will be.

So, if you’re looking to make a real change as a Head of Finance & Operations, please apply via the button shown. This vacancy is being advertised by Webrecruit. The services advertised by Webrecruit are those of an Employment Agency.
