About the Youth Endowment Fund

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) has a critical role in ensuring we succeed in this work. You have a key leadership role in overseeing the overall health of the Fund in partnership with the Executive Director. The role oversees our finances, people management and – for the right candidate –much of our grant-making and project management. 

Key responsibilities 

You’ll lead on key organisational governance processes and ensure the Fund makes wise decisions, by:  

• Being a leading member of our Directors’ team, overseeing all elements of the Fund’s work.

• Ensuring that the Fund operates as efficiently and effectively as possible by prioritising the right activities and matching resources to deliver on our mission.

• Ensuring we have the right long, medium and short-term financial plans in place and that we maintain close control over our financial decisions and spend. 

• Informing our Board and our Risk and Audit Committee on our financial performance and risk.

• Ensuring the Fund’s investments are well managed through supporting the Endowment Investment Committee (this does not require investment experience). 

• Managing our Grants and Evaluation Committee (this decides which evaluations we should fund) and ensuring it operates effectively. 

• Ensuring that any ambiguities in the organisation are identified and removed. 

You make sure that the Fund has the people, tools and resources in place to excel. This will require us to:  

• Hire, develop and inspire the very best people: Managing our Head of People, you will ensure that we hire the best possible staff, compensate them appropriately, provide necessary and effective training, maintain a strong focus on staff well-being, manage and develop staff effectively and address poor performance when required. 

• Provide staff with the tools they need to perform: Managing our Head of Grant Operations, you will ensure that we have the tools we need to deliver, including management information, databases, systems and processes and office facilities. 

• Track performance: Track performance against our goals efficiently and effectively, championing a system of accountability and action to review, identify and empower the right people to act on delivering according to the plan. 

Working with colleagues, you’ll ensure we award grants, manage grantees and oversee evaluations efficiently and effectively. This will require us to: 

• Make excellent decisions about our grants: Working with – and potentially managing1 - the Assistant Director for Programmes, Impact and Partnerships, you will help to ensure that our processes for assessing funding applications achieve our organisational priorities for evidence generation. This requires you to understand what partners are trying to do, whether it’s likely to work, whether it will help us build an accessible and trusted body of knowledge, and whether we can build on it to make long-term change happen. 

• Evaluate our programmes: Working with - and potentially managing - the Assistant Director of Evaluation, you will help to ensure that we select and partner with high-quality evaluators to understand how well different activities work.

• Ensuring the team maintains effective monitoring processes: Working with your team, you will develop the necessary skills, processes and decision-making processes to identify when things aren’t going to plan and respond accordingly.

• Build strong relationships with your external partners: You and your team will build strong, trusting relationships with the projects the YEF funds and the evaluators that we work with. Your team will be known for being attentive yet assertive and measured and efficient in the reporting information we expect. You will become well connected in the sectors that we are working in.

• Identify opportunities to scale up projects: You will be proactive in identifying projects that would benefit from capacity development support or that may be ready to scale up their work, collaborating with Impetus to deliver on this.

Person specification 

• You are excellent at leading on finance in an organisation: You find it easy and straightforward to develop and oversee, large organisational budgets and ensure timely preparation of management accounts. You’re excellent at financial forecasting and understand how to make judgements and recommendations based on future scenario planning. You have experience reporting to Boards on financial performance and health, and leading on organisational external audits.

• You are strategic about finance: You’ve got real skill in distilling complex financial information into simple, easy to understand reports and presentations that enable good decision-making. You see your knowledge of finance as a way to serve Director-level colleagues with overall decision-making. You also understand how to navigate competing priorities and how to calculate and articulate risk and reward, knowing few decisions are straightforward.

• You get teams to use data well: You understand that accurate data and excellent management information tools enable good decision-making. You understand how management information databases (like Salesforce) work and would be able to maintain and build a culture of recording data and maintaining data quality within big teams. Ideally, you have experience working directly with Salesforce.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

What you’ll be doing …

The main purpose of this role is to grow the venue hire pipeline of business and deliver venue hire events and specialist group events to excellent standards ensuring repeat business and maximising new sales opportunities. We are seeking a professional, confident candidate who enjoys the end-to-end process of events and is keen to make their mark on venue hire at the Society. You will also be highly organised with a keen eye for detail and confident being the ‘gatekeeper’ of the room bookings diary at the society.

Venue Hire Sales & Marketing: 

• To deal with all venue sales enquiries in a timely and efficient manner. 
• To build and maintain an effective pipeline of venue hire enquiries. Including attending venue hire showcases and B2B networking events as necessary. 
• Professional and friendly manner, confident in delivering and leading on showrounds to prospective clients. 
• To produce venue hire literature and ensure that all material relating to the venue facilities is kept up to date. 
• To meet venue hire sales targets for 2024 as set by the Society and build effective sales pipelines for 2025.
• Liaise with Marketing Teams to produce bespoke posts and newsletters for members, venue hire leads and special offers for venue hire throughout the year, maximising engagement. 
• Support the Head of Events with all key cultivation events including venue hire showcases and any new business ventures. 

Venue Hire Administration: 

• To maintain safe working practices in conjunction with Health & Safety policies. 
• Work collaboratively with Buildings Manager to communicate key information taking place across Burlington House. 
• To liaise with AV company with regards to timings, payments, staff needs, training and use of equipment / set up for events. 
• To liaise with caterers with regards to timings, payments, staff attending, training and room set up for events. 
• To produce a weekly booking sheet for all staff to communicate bookings across the building. 
• To produce and meet budgets for events in consultation with the Head of Events 
• Manage the venue hire diary, ensuring it is kept up to date and all bookings are accurately recorded. 
• To check all incoming invoices against quotes/information received and pass to accounts for payment. 
• To raise and resolve any invoice queries in a timely manner. 

Event Operations:  

• To deliver all venue hire and specialist group events to excellent standards.
• To liaise with speakers and venue hire delegates and communicate all logistical details in a timely fashion including H&S briefings, PEEP plans and Risk Assessments. 
• To make any other logistical arrangements that are necessary for the smooth running of events covering timings, parking, room set-ups etc. 
• To ensure that all events are accessible and organised within the disability discrimination legislation. 
• To support the events team with ad-hoc events out of hours where needed across the year. 
• Ensure the events spaces are well maintained in collaboration with the Buildings Manager.

Teamwork: 

• To be proactive in identifying areas for potential improvement in the events programme 
• To take part in developing more efficient ways of working within the team 
• To ensure that positive working relationships are created with other departments at GSL 
• To participate in team meetings and wider meetings including External Relations and Health & Safety. 

Other responsibilities and expectations: 

• The post holder is expected to work flexibly to respond to changing needs at The Geological Society.  As the Conference Office operates a room hire service it is expected that the postholder will undertake out-of-hours work to ensure that this service can operate.  Excess hours worked will be compensated for by time off in lieu.

We’re looking for a Senior Digital Engagement Manager to head up our Digital Team, taking the lead on driving forward the organisation’s digital marketing and communications. You’ll work with the Head of Marketing and Communications to develop and deliver the digital elements of the wider marketing and communications strategy, and line manage senior officers who lead the operations and development of our website, social media, email marketing and paid advertising activities. 

You’ll play a lead role in maximising digital marketing opportunities, raising the profile of the organisation, communicating information, services and campaigns to new and existing supporters, and using insights and data to drive engagement and growth across the organisation. You’ll be the go-to expert for major initiatives that require digital support, from communication campaigns to change projects. You’ll also bring insights into the latest trends and developments in the digital marketing landscape.

You’ll be a digital all-rounder with enough hands-on knowledge and experience to support your operational leads, and the ability to think strategically, guiding the team and driving forward new ideas and initiatives. 

Main responsibilities will include:

Administration

• Be responsible for securing contracts by confirming booking information and working with the Head of Budgets, Contracts & Policy to ensure freelance trainer contracts and Service Agreements are in place

• Oversee the general administration of all APD functions including responding to customer queries and feedback

•  Process course bookings made via Thinkific and other platforms, ensuring all requirements are noted and passed on appropriately

• Ensure effective contribution of accurate and timely data required by Artswork and its funders / stakeholders

Finance

• Be responsible for APD budgets including raising sales invoices, reconciling payments and managing deferred income

• Follow anti-money laundering procedures to ensure APD sales are compliant with legislation

• Ensure all finance and operations processes and procedures are rigorously implemented in collaboration with the Finance & Operations team

• Produce budget forecasts for APD and provide monthly updates on current financial position to the Deputy CEO and Head of Budgets, Contracts & Policy

• Chase debtors and regularly report any overdue payments to the Finance team

Strategy

• Contribute to the APD growth strategy through ideas and practical solutions

• Work with the APD team and Deputy CEO in the development of new programmes, routes to market and audience development

Communications

• Help to maintain strong communication channels with all partner organisations and customers

• Provide administrative support in developing regional networks, contacts and partners

• Assist with the engagement of employers and partners for projects and programmes

Administration and Legal Compliance

• Maintain positive professional relationships with our participants, partners and stakeholders •

Events Officer

About you

We are seeking candidates with experience in managing the development,  production and delivery of web content and digital products, including e-learning resources, videos, podcasts, and images, for a high traffic and information rich website.

The successful candidate will have experience of implementing a digital-first strategy which supports and refines customer-focused outputs. You will be versed in content management systems (e.g. WordPress), information architecture, and user-experience (UX) design as it pertains to effective usability and accessibility. You will have experience of the daily operation and fluid maintenance of a large website and platform that works for our audiences and supports our wider business development aims of generating interest and sales in SCIE’s products and services.

You will have experience of managing external contractors (e.g. designers, photographers, illustrators, developers, etc.) as well as using tools like Google Analytics (GA4) and Hotjar, and understanding how web statistics and user feedback collection and analysis can help us engage with our audiences better.

You will understand the digital needs of a wide range of SCIE’s stakeholders, including for example, people with visual impairments and people with learning disabilities, and how to ensure that our digital products and web content work for all audiences.

Strategy Development and Implementation

BACKGROUND 

The Helen Bamber Foundation is a human rights organisation with an international reputation for providing medical consultation, therapeutic care, legal protection, and practical support to survivors of trafficking and torture.  We are a team of therapists, doctors, lawyers, caseworkers and administrators who help men, women and children recover from the emotional and physical damage they have suffered because of torture, human trafficking, or other forms of cruelty.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE 

As  Psychotherapist within the Helen Bamber Foundation, you will work alongside our current Senior Psychotherapist and be responsible for supporting the Head of Therapies and the Team Manager in providing a comprehensive range of therapeutic interventions to clients of the Helen Bamber Foundation.

In addition to providing psychotherapy, stabilization, psychoeducation, and trauma focused therapy, this role will include delivery of psychological assessments for both medico-legal and clinical purposes, as well as delivery of clinical supervision to staff from non-clinical backgrounds who nonetheless have significant client contact, and supervision of assistant psychologists. As you develop in the role you will also have opportunities to contribute to the on-going development of the service and at times, the role may include input into policy, research and fundraising and delivery of consultancy and training. 

We are looking for someone who is committed to working therapeutically with individuals who have experienced human rights abuses and who have developed trauma spectrum disorders as a result. The successful applicant will ideally have proven experience in working therapeutically with this client group, have a passion for human rights work beyond the individual client work, and a desire to contribute to effecting change at a policy level.  This role requires the ability to be with the complex and sometimes harrowing details of a client’s experience, and to react and respond creatively and appropriately to their needs.Additionally, you will be knowledgeable and experienced in consultation and assessment including risk management, and have competence, or a commitment to receiving training, in at least one model of trauma therapy such as NET or EMDR.
