The UWC International Office serves as the operational arm of UWC International, a UK-registered and Germany-registered charity, and stands as a pivotal entity within the UWC movement. Philanthropy serves as a cornerstone function at UWC International, significantly contributing to UWC's expansion and financial sustainability. The Philanthropy Team holds the responsibility of enhancing UWC's fundraising capabilities, coordinating movement-wide fundraising initiatives, and securing substantial donations to bolster our programmes. The team also oversees the successful implementation of funded programmes, ensuring alignment with UWC's values and maximising impact on beneficiaries.
Simultaneously, we provide regular updates to our donors on scholar progress and supported initiatives, fostering engaged relationships.

The Philanthropy Team operates as an integral part of the larger Advancement Team, which encompasses Communications and Community Engagement. This collaborative framework involves close coordination with colleagues at all eighteen UWC schools, staff, and volunteers across over 155 UWC national committees, as well as various UWC governance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

1) Overseeing Financial Management, Reporting, and Monitoring (60%):

• Manage the financial aspects of funded scholarship programmes, including budgeting, reporting, and monitoring spending.
• Prepare narrative and financial reports for donors, coordinating with UWC schools.
• Lead the process of collecting and analysing data on scholarship recipient students and refugee students across all UWC schools for donor reporting, brochures and publications.
• Collate invoices from UWC schools, create invoices for donors and process invoices for payment.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping and efficient use of the accounting system.
• Support the improvement of impact tracking for funded programmes.
• Support the philanthropy and finance teams with the annual audit by coordinating information gathering and documentation on funded programmes’ financials.

2) Supporting Student Stewardship for All Funded Programmes (10%):

• Plan and organise annual onboarding and offboarding sessions for IO-managed scholars.
• Develop appropriate information materials for scholars and UWC schools to support timely and quality donor reporting.
• Implement a yearly offboarding survey with scholars, working closely with the Engagement Team.
• Support coordination between UWC schools and national committees during the selection process and pre-departure preparation.

3) Coordinating University Partnerships (10%):

• Coordinate partnerships with universities on behalf of UWC International, working closely with the Senior Adviser, UWC counsellors and EducationTeam.

4) Assisting the Philanthropy Team with Administration incl. Donation Services (20%):

• Manage donation management processes and support donor stewardship processes, including processing online donations through donation platforms and preparing donation acknowledgement letters for donors.
• Maintain data on Raisers’ Edge database and philanthropy dashboard, preparing management updates.
• Coordinate introductions for new philanthropy staff members at UWC schools.
• Oversee subscriptions to databases and respond to inquiries via email.

Person Specification

Experience and skills

• Financial Management and Reporting: Prior experience in financial management, budgeting, reporting, and monitoring, preferably in a nonprofit organisation or educational institution.
• Data Analysis: Experience in collecting, analysing, and presenting data for reporting purposes.
• Donor Reporting: Demonstrated experience in preparing narrative and financial reports for donors, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

We are seeking to appoint someone on a 12-month fixed term contract as maternity cover, to join our Grants Team in delivering The Ideas Fund, an exciting programme which looks to connect communities with researchers in order to develop and try out ideas related to mental wellbeing. The Fund is delivered in four areas of the UK – Oldham, Hull, the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and North West Northern Ireland, although this role can be remote, based anywhere in the UK.

With support from the Head of Grants, we expect that you will have lead responsibility for our work in two of these areas, building strong relationships with our Development Co-ordinators and contributing to the successful delivery of the overall programme. You will oversee the support for grant holders to learn from what is working and feed this learning into our overall approach with the Fund, as well as sharing insights externally. You will work with our existing Grants & Learning Manager to ensure that our due diligence and grant reporting requirements are met, responding flexibly and creatively to issues that arise. The main responsibilities of this role are to:

• Work with the Head of Grants to deliver an innovative programme that constantly evolves based on what we learn.
• Deliver excellent grant-making using relational, flexible and participatory approaches.
• Design and implement high-quality assessment, due diligence and grant management processes, continually reviewing and refining the approach.
• Support the assessment and delivery of a portfolio of ‘evidence building’ grants, with projects due to begin in January 2025.

  • Representing the British Science Association at external events to share innovation and learning.
  • Develop and deliver events and/or content to showcase practice.
• Support the Head of Grants with developing the BSA’s strategy around future grants programmes.

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices are a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. We support families across Surrey and Southwest London from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

At the heart of the hospice are our dedicated clinical staffs. Their exceptional commitment and professionalism is commented on by so many of the supported children and their families. 

It costs £10.5 million a year to maintain our current level of care. Only 30% of that income comes from government funding via the NHS or local authorities, so we rely on our supporters’ generosity to keep the service running. We employ 175 staff, including 98 nursing and medical staff, providing hospice and community-based services to around 700 families.

Predominantly we work with families living in the Northwest and Southwest of London and Surrey, although will accept children outside these geographical areas if they do not have access to specialist palliative care support locally.  We have a reputation for delivering high quality care.  We have a CQC rating of ‘Outstanding’

 

Introduction

Retail and Volunteers Team: Our Retail and Volunteers Team manages our charity shops and volunteer programs, which play a crucial role in supporting our mission. They recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to staff our shops and assist with various tasks, such as sorting donations and serving customers. Additionally, they oversee the operations of our retail outlets, ensuring that they are efficiently run to generate income for our hospices.

Part 1: Job Profile

 

a) Main purpose of  job

In the absence of the manager or assistant managers to lead a team of volunteers to maximise sales, deliver excellent customer service and ensure that the shop premises and assets are maintained to a high standard, according to legal requirements and Shooting Star Children’s Hospices (SSCH) policies and procedures. 

Decision Making Authority

The post holder will be required to make decisions on the quality, and suitability of donations before they are placed on sale. Depending on the length of the cover period they may be required to dress the windows. (They will follow price guidelines and existing display layout throughout the shop.)

The post holder will work with eCommerce Manager to decide if items would be suitable for selling at a higher price on eBay or through a promotional event and set these aside for the manager of the shop to deal with on their return.

The post holder will support with rostering of the team of volunteers where necessary and delegation of duties and jobs.

a) Customer Service – 25%

• Dealing with customer queries and complaints courteously and effectively

• Ensure that any refunds are processed in line with SSCH refunds policy

• Ensure that the advertised trading hours of the shop are adhered to

• Ensure relevant documents are completed in the event of an incident/accident and reported accordingly

b) Processing donations – 25%

• Process all donations as soon as possible, prioritising Gift Aid and high value items

• Prepare and clean items appropriately for display

• Oversee the recycling and arranging of collections

• Promote Gift Aid is at all available opportunities

• Ensure that the ongoing need for donations is publicised

• Price and ticket all items according to pricing strategy for the shop and ensure that all pricing and ticketing complies with legislation

• Ensure that stock is properly managed and rotated in accordance with latest guidance

• Identify high value or specialist items that may need to be sold in another capacity

c) Merchandising, display and promotion of stock, maintenance of high standards throughout the shop – 20%

• Ensure that all merchandise is displayed attractively and that the window display is eye-catching

• Ensure that there are high standards of cleanliness and tidiness in all areas of the  shop

d) Sales and financial reporting – 10%

• In the absence of the manager/assistant ensure that daily/weekly financial reports are submitted and that any discrepancies are investigated

 This newly created HR Officer position will support the Head of HR in a busy HR function potential for a busy charity. This is an interesting and varied role providing administrative support across the organisation.  As the first point of contact within the organisation you will be responsible for liaising with a large range of stakeholders from supporters to Members of Parliament.

We are looking for a Sports Development Manager who will be responsible for developing and supporting TeamUCL (a sporting community of 75 student sports clubs) and managing the Sports Development team at the Students' Union.

In2scienceUK’s aim is to promote social mobility and diversity in science, technology, engineering and maths. The successful applicant will be joining In2scienceUK at an exciting point in its mission having recently launched a number of new initiatives, both in-person and online, to support young people build the skills, knowledge and confidence to build successful careers in STEM.

Role Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Safeguarding Manager to join our growing team and own our safeguarding processes end to end. This is a crucial role to ensure the safety of the young people we work with and that In2scienceUK provides a safe environment for all.

This role is part time and contract based and would be ideal for someone who has significant experience of safeguarding and child protection law, as well as experience

in carrying out safeguarding audits, implementing safeguarding processes for both in person and online offers, as well as internal and external safeguarding training.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review and audit existing safeguarding practices and procedures throughout the organisation.

• Manage and deliver a plan to improve practices and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and guidance.

• Produce safeguarding policies, codes of conduct, and any other documentation needed to meet our commitment to safeguarding.

• Design and deliver effective in-person and online safeguarding training and guidance for trustees, staff, volunteers, partners and beneficiaries.

• Provide safeguarding support and guidance for our volunteers and partners, particularly concerning work experience placements and mentoring.

• Manage safeguarding concerns and disclosures as they arise, and escalate concerns in line with our safeguarding policies including making external referrals.

Knowledge and Experience:
