Join The Fore, the UK’s only venture philanthropy fund dedicated to backing the best small charities, and play a key role in achieving our goal of getting the most innovative solutions from grassroots to nationwide impact.
Reporting into the Director of Operations, you will lead the delivery of The Fore’s grant rounds, which are the core engine of our impact. You’ll oversee our Programme Team and pool of Strategic Applicant Consultants (SACs) and will make sure the strongest proposals reach our funding panels. The role is a key part in achieving our goal of getting the most innovative solutions from grassroots to nationwide impact.
You’ll drive our workshops and peer learning programme, enabling small charities to develop the skills and networks to take their solutions to the next level. You will also take forward newer strategic initiatives, including our scale-up funding rounds and the launch of high-profile charity showcases that connect our most impactful organisations with government, funders and policy influencers.
Alongside this, you’ll own our impact and learning work, ensuring we capture and communicate the difference our work makes. You’ll work closely with senior colleagues and be supported by the small but mighty Programme Team (a Programme Officer and Programme Assistant) who you will also be line managing.
Key responsibilities
- Grant-making: Lead the end-to-end delivery of our core funding and scale-up programmes, from shaping programme design to ensuring the strongest applications reach our funding panels. You’ll keep the process running smoothly, support and steer our SACs, and maintain a strong focus on quality and impact. This includes oversight of our Salesforce grants system, working with specialised contractors to ensure it supports effective delivery.
- Strategic Applicant Consultants (SACs): Lead the recruitment, training, support and retention of our SAC pool, making sure they’re equipped, motivated and connected. You’ll foster a strong sense of community and shared purpose across this talented group.
- Impact and monitoring: Lead The Fore’s impact and monitoring work, including producing our annual impact report and sector insights, and commissioning external contractors for deeper analysis when needed. You’ll also ensure our portfolio is on track to deliver its plans, and support organisations to adapt and thrive when challenges arise.
- Charity showcases: Spearhead our new high-profile showcase events, connecting outstanding small charities with policymakers, funders and influencers.
- Peer learning and workshops: Maintain strategic oversight of our learning events for our portfolio, including peer-to-peer sessions and workshops designed to build the skills and knowledge small charities need to maximise their impact.
- Funder engagement: Collaborate with the Partnerships Team to align programmes with funder interests and help build strong, enduring relationships.
- External representation: Represent The Fore by speaking at events, building relationships, and engaging with funders, networks, and sector partners.
- Line management of Programme Team members – currently consists of the Programme Officer and Programme Assistant.
This is a broad and evolving role with plenty of scope to shape new initiatives and strengthen existing systems as the organisation grows.
Candidate profile
Skills and experience:
- 7+ years of professional experience in the business, public or third sector
- Strong project or programme management track record, with the ability to juggle multiple workstreams and deadlines
- Experience managing volunteers and/or direct reports
- Skilled at engaging a wide range of stakeholders and adapting communication style as needed
- Experience working in or with small charities or social enterprises is a bonus, but not essential. We’re looking for transferable skills and a clear commitment to social impact

- Excellent attention to detail, especially when coordinating multiple inputs and deliverables

Contract and salary: £50,000 (if full time). We’re ideally looking for someone able to work full time but would consider 3.5 days+ per week for the right candidate. However, the role does require you to be in our London office three days a week.

- Oversee program quality through technical support, capacity building, and standard-setting across sectors (Protection, Shelter & Settlements, Economic Recovery, Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding).
- Drive DRC’s localization and partnership agenda, ensuring collaboration with national actors and authorities.
- Engage with donors, coordination forums, and humanitarian stakeholders to position DRC as a credible and effective partner.
- Guide proposal development, business development, and advocacy efforts, ensuring that evidence and learning inform strategic priorities.
- Support programme integration and promote inter-sectoral approaches where contextually appropriate.
- Ensure strong coordination between Programme, MEAL, Communications, and Grants through effective management and delegation.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least 7 years of experience in humanitarian or development programming, with at least 4 years in the roles with people management responsibilities. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- Experience managing program operations at the senior management level, preferably at country-level
- Proven leadership skills and a competence in people management
- Experience with proposal development, budget development, program implementation, monitoring and evaluation
- Experience with effectively coordinating with national partners, local/government authorities, NGO partners, donors and other relevant stakeholders
- Strong technical knowledge in at least two of the DRC core sectors (Protection, EcRec, Shelter & settlement, HDP)
- Full professional proficiency in English; working knowledge of Ukrainian is a strong advantage

As Senior Partnership Advisor you will be part of the Global Foundation and Institutional Donors section (GFID) working directly with the Head of Global Foundation and Institutional Donors, colleagues based in HQ, DRC Representations in Geneva, Brussels and Berlin, and regionally with the Regional Business Development Coordinators. Your overall responsibility will be to support DRC’s capacity strengthening to maintain and improve donor relationships and fundraising efforts.
The Senior Partnership Advisor oversees the engagement and fundraising efforts focusing primarily on FCDO and the UK-based foundations, potentially there would also be some coverage of non-core donors like Irish Aid, Jersey Aid etc. You are tasked with undertaking analyses, elaborating donor intelligence, to inform and advise senior management and colleagues about partnership development as well as fundraising opportunities.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Strategy
- Support design and advancement of the global donor engagement strategy based on the FCDOs’ donor trends and priorities, (and relevant non-core donors).
- Mapping and scoping of UK-based foundations with the support of the wider GFID team.
- Lead the development of donor-specific engagement action plans for the FCDO and relevant foundations and steer their implementation.
Partnership Engagement
- Lead on a strong and strategic partnership between DRC and FCDO at capital level and UK-based Foundations and engage proactively with FCDO (and relevant non-core donors) to address challenges and opportunities related to DRC’s partnership at global level and inform/advise ROs/COs accordingly. Develop tools and guidance to support engagement with FCDO
- Provide support and expertise to DRC country and regional operations on the partnership.
- Represent DRC in dialogues with core donors on regulatory frameworks and actively participate in relevant events and coordination mechanisms with peer organisations or other networks and platforms.
Donor intelligence and knowledge management
- Monitor and analyse relevant trends and donor intelligence and provide strategic advice on possible impact and ways to adapt across all levels of the organization for FCDO, relevant UK foundations and /or non-core donors).
- Develop qualitative and quantitative analyses to feed into donor trends and global donor analyses, lessons learned, and other dissemination documents.
Partnership Management – externally and internally
- For FCDO funding, develop tools, platforms, and internal workflows for efficient strategic donor compliance (this includes maintaining DRC Insite donor pages, updating and publishing internal guidance tools such as Donorpedias, fact sheets etc.).
- Strengthen capacities of Grants Management Unit staff on FCDO policies and guidelines.
Occasional travel will be expected to DRC HQ, DRC representations or DRC country offices
About you
To excel in this role, you will have natural communication and social skills, including networking and the ability to influence. You are comfortable navigating internal stakeholders horizontally and vertically, and representing DRC externally with donors, peer organisations and in other forums.
You have strong knowledge of FCDO’s structure and funding priorities, including regulatory frameworks and contracting. This role calls for someone who is both a “thinker” and a “doer” - an ability to work on strategic-level analyses while being detailed as well as being results and service-oriented.

- Documented extensive experience with institutional donors and donor engagement, and in particular, FCDO
- Experience in engaging with philanthropic and private sector foundations
- Understanding of the links between compliance and building the image of a go-to organisation for donors

Role overview
This is an exciting opportunity to take a senior role in FILE’s high-performing fundraising team and secure support from some of the world’s leading foundations working in climate.
FILE is seeking an ambitious and experienced Philanthropic Partnerships Lead to lead relationships with significant funders and play a critical role in shaping and advancing FILE’s ambitious fundraising strategy. The Philanthropic Partnerships Lead will take the lead across a portfolio of existing donors and seek new funding opportunities from major philanthropic foundations.
The Philanthropic Partnerships Lead will work closely with the Head of Philanthropic Partnerships and FILE leadership to shape fundraising and donor stewardship strategies and drive fundraising success. Key Responsibilities will include:
Donor relationship management and stewardship
The Philanthropic Partnerships Lead will lead on several significant funder relationships, co-ordinating internally with FILE Leadership, the Head of Philanthropic Parnterships and strategic experts to devise and deliver excellent stewardship and donor experiences.
This will include:
- Setting donor strategy and creating and managing bespoke donor stewardship plans and communications
- Leading externally in face-to-face and virtual meetings, events and engagements and managing complex donor relationships across multiple stakeholders and workstreams
- Leading on key relationship touchpoints including performance and strategy reviews
- Liaising across internal cross-functional teams to plan and co-ordinate donor engagement at multiple levels

Cultivating new funder relationships
Securing new support is a critical organisational priority and the candidate will have the opportunity to forge new relationships with major funders.
Alongside FILE leadership and the Head of Philanthropic Partnerships, they will be responsible for identifying and progressing new pipeline opportunities and become the fundraising lead for specific thematic areas and initiatives.

- Devising and delivering bespoke cultivation strategies for key donor prospects
- Devising new funding propositions and strategies for high-priority areas and new strategic initiatives
- Working with FILE leadership and strategy leads to delivering engaging cultivation, including through meetings, calls and written materials
- Actively progressing opportunities through the fundraising pipeline and leading on proposal development for target opportunities
