Job Purpose:

To provide operational management of the Substance Misuse Through-the-Gate (SMTTG) programme, which supports Lambeth and Southwark women in custody and their transition back into the community. The Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring the service is delivered to a high standard by line managing staff, developing strong partnerships with prisons and recovery services, and fostering a culture of quality, learning, and accountability.

The post holder will also hold a caseload, working directly with women in custody to support them into community services. They will provide robust Through-the-Gate (TTG) support on release and continue to work with women in the community for up to six months to ensure a smooth transition and sustainable recovery.

Key Responsibility Areas:

1. Lead the operational management of the Substance Misuse TTG programme, ensuring high-quality, trauma-responsive support for women impacted by the criminal justice system
2. Manage and develop staff to foster a strong, inclusive, and reflective team culture
3. Deliver direct support to women, ensuring a trauma-informed and person-centred approach

About the role:

You will lead and support a team of Homicide Family Caseworkers to meet VS and Homicide Service standards and contractual requirements. You will have a passion for excellent service delivery, performance management and team welfare.

The family caseworkers provide in person support to families who have experienced the sudden and traumatic death by Homicide. The caseworkers are responsible for ensuring the needs identified are met, that each person being supported receives guidance, advise and practical support as well as emotional support and advocacy.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills essential to managing a diverse workload, and be committed to supporting the caseworkers to deliver support.

We pride ourselves on providing exceptional trauma informed advocacy and support to all and you will have an understanding of the impact that trauma and bereavement can have on individuals.

We support staff to keep them safe within their role and you will lead on the importance of personal and professional resilience and wellbeing for the team.

You will have excellent communication skills and will support the Operation Managers to maintain the highest standards of service delivery, across a widely geographically dispersed team.

You will be prepared to travel across the geographical area including occasional overnight stays to ensure you can meet team members in person as well as online.

You will enjoy working closely with a range of stakeholders (including Police Family Liaison Officers and Senior Investigation Officers within the Major Crime teams/Coroner officers and other statutory agencies) and will have experience in building constructive working relationships.

You should be confident to deliver internal and external presentations to a wide range of audiences. You will have experience of achieving key performance indicators, as directed by the Operations managers and Deputy Head of Service.

This role involves regular travel and due to the location, a driving license and access to a vehicle is considered an essential requirement. You will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis. The post holder will hold a caseload of survivors and will also be required to support Advance’s duty team on a rota basis which will involve completing intake assessments and providing crisis intervention support.

As Training Programme Lead, you’ll play a central role in supporting CSRH trainees, upholding curriculum standards, and ensuring compliance with the regulatory requirements of the General Medical Council (GMC). You’ll also guide doctors pursuing specialist registration through alternative routes, such as the GMC’s Portfolio Pathway, ensuring these processes are fair, transparent, and effective. The role:

Curriculum management

• Ensure the CSRH curriculum and assessment framework meets the regulatory standards set by the General Medical Council (GMC).
• Collaborate with clinicians, educators, regulators, and statutory boards to ensure the curriculum remains relevant, effective, and aligned with national standards, legislation, and service needs.
• Monitor and evaluate curriculum delivery across training sites by collecting feedback, audit results, and performance data; maintain accurate records of trainee outcomes and produce reports to support internal governance and external regulatory compliance.
• Support the use of digital platforms to track trainee progress against curriculum outcomes.

Trainee Support & Progression

• Act as a key point of contact for specialty trainees, providing guidance and administrative support throughout their training.
• Assist trainees in navigating digital platforms used for portfolio management and progression tracking.
• Develop and maintain clear, accessible guidance documents to support trainees in understanding training requirements and processes.
• Coordinate training events, inductions, and communications to keep trainees informed and engaged.

Stakeholder engagement

• Build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including the GMC, NHS England, statutory education boards, medical colleges and faculties, and training providers.
• Serve as the primary liaison for specialty trainees, Educational Supervisors and Training Programme Directors
• Work with suppliers and digital platform providers to maintain and improve user experience and functionality.
• Ensure open and constructive communication with all stakeholders to support programme delivery and regulatory compliance.

Portfolio Pathway

• Support doctors applying for specialist registration via the GMC’s Portfolio Pathway.
• Coordinate the review process for Portfolio Pathway applications, ensuring timely and accurate evaluation by relevant panels or evaluators.
• Provide clear, accessible guidance to applicants and maintain accurate records to support continuous improvement of the process and data to support workforce planning.

Committee and Governance Support

• Provide high-quality administrative support to internal committees, working groups, and panels involved in specialty training governance.
• Prepare agendas, take minutes, and follow up on actions to ensure effective committee operations.
• Support the governance of the CSRH curriculum and assessment framework by maintaining accurate records and documentation.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures and standard operating procedures related to the specialty training portfolio.

• A strong understanding of the role of standard operating procedures (SOPs) in ensuring consistency, quality, and clarity, and the ability to develop and maintain SOPs and accessible user guidance to support trainees, trainers, and applicants.
• Competency in analysing and interpreting data to produce meaningful reports for internal governance and external regulatory reviews.

You will have experience:

• Experience coordinating or supporting training or education programmes, ideally in a regulated or healthcare-related environment.
• Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management across a range of professional levels.
• Experience supporting or managing governance structures such as committees, panels, or working groups.
• Experience maintaining accurate records and producing reports for internal and external use.
• Experience developing guidance materials and SOPs to support users in navigating complex systems or processes.

About the role:

This is a great chance to be a part of a service working alongside the Healthcare & Education Department within HMP Bronzefield to identify and support women who are identified as being neurodiverse and will be returning to the community. Of that cohort, the Advocate will focus support on women with a mental health need and improve their transition into the community, with ongoing community support; including collaborating with other healthcare professionals to their develop support plans.

The Senior MH Advocate will work in a multi-disciplinary way, including attending the weekly complex case meeting and/or the Safety Intervention Meeting (SIM) as appropriate, they will act as a specialist member of the wider Minerva Criminal Justice Service - London team, to facilitate a pathway for women with complex needs including mental health and neurodiversity needs. The Senior Advocate will create a link between prison and the community, helping women to navigate support services and to positively re-integrate into their community upon release. They will co-design a person-centred support and action plan with women accessing support, enabling to support them to address their needs and any risks. The role will combine a casework- based approach, along with a signposting and advice service for the women.

The Senior Mental Health Advocate will be based in the community and will provide a drop-in service (1-2 day per week) in HMP Bronzefield to support women who are close to release. The role will also include line management of other advocates such as; Specialist Prison & Probation Advocates who will be based in the prison and the Loss & Bereavement Worker who will be providing support in the prison as well as in the community.

A car may be desirable for this role, though not essential

About You:

To be successful as the Senior Mental Health Advocate you will need the below experience and skills:

An excellent understanding of mental health, neurodiversity needs violence against women and girls and its links to women in the criminal justice system

Experience of managing/supervising a team of advocates/caseworkers – and leading a team to achieve targets & outcomes as well as appropriately managing and leading the team on any safeguarding concerns/incidents.

You will have the ability to complete trauma informed, support and action plans in collaboration with the woman; to support in addressing their multiple and individual needs and enable them to engage with services, which will result in timely and prescribed outcomes being achieved.

You will possess excellent organisational skills, excellent communication skills and be able to work in a prison environment whilst remaining calm.
