SPANA - The Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad is the global charity for working animals in low-income countries. Since 1923, we have supported the welfare of working animals, including donkeys, horses, camels and elephants, in communities that depend on working animals for water, transport, agriculture and their very survival. Today, we support working animals across 26 countries, through a series of global projects and partnerships.

The Head of Global Operations is a key member of the Global Resources Team, responsible for professional business support at both a strategic and an operational level across the organisation. Key responsibilities include providing essential operational infrastructure to the global support and country teams, encompassing office facilities, travel security, and IT and HR services.

While we classify this role as hybrid, it's worth noting that the vast majority of your work can be done from the comfort of your own home. Occasional in-person visits to our London office (located in Borough High Street), and all-staff gatherings will be necessary. Our full time hours are 34.5 hours per week and we offer core working hours between 10am and 4pm.

Key responsibilities

• To provide the global support team and country teams with the necessary operational infrastructure/elements (including office facilities, travel security, risks), IT and HR services that respond to the changing ways of working for the organisation.
• The role will be required to develop an IT strategy and lead on organisational IT projects in collaboration with other departments, facilitating the rollout, implementation and monitoring against key milestones.
• To develop and implement a global workforce strategy, implementing organisational initiatives, including EDI, L&D, our wellbeing offer and lead on team communication related to HR matters with the wider organisation.

About you

• Proven experience in Head of Operations role or similar.

This role will support and inspire an ambitious and high performing team to build propositions, proposals and pipelines in order to unlock opportunities to engage the charity’s supporters and untap networks across the charity, securing vital funds to underpin their strategic programmes and ambitions for people with Parkinson’s. The post-holder will inspire supporters to give their biggest donation and ensure that the organisation is giving its supporters the best experience possible, delivering an annual income target of £6m+. Maximising the value and contribution of supporters is fundamental to Parkinson’s UK; building networks, understanding what motivates their supporters, and aligning programmes to their charitable interests is key to the charity’s growth plans for Major Gifts. About TASO

The Centre for Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education (TASO) is an affiliate What Works Centre, and part of the UK Government’s What Works Movement. Our vision is to eliminate equality gaps in higher education (HE). Our mission is to improve lives through evidence-informed practice.

TASO was set up in 2019 and became an independent charity in April 2021. Our work focuses on the generation, synthesis and dissemination of high-quality evidence about effective practice in widening participation and student outcomes. The Role

The Head of Communications and Engagement will lead TASO’s communications and engagement work plan to raise the profile of the organisation. They will also lead on TASO’s evidence mobilisation work plan, working with the Chief Executive, to ensure TASO’s research and evaluation outputs are effectively disseminated. 

This will involve ensuring a strategic approach to all communications activities, leading on the delivery of external-facing materials and publications, overseeing a vibrant social media presence and events programme. The role will have overall responsibility for a website redevelopment project over the next year. 

• Ensure a strategic and effective approach to communications, dissemination and stakeholder engagement.

• Lead on the design, branding and dissemination of innovative and engaging communications – both print and online, including oversight of the editorial and publication process for all TASO research reports and resources. 

• Lead on TASO’s evidence mobilisation plan, working with the Chief Executive and Research and Evaluation Team to ensure research outputs are effectively disseminated and achieve impact.

• Support the Chief Executive on delivering TASO’s policy aims. Lead on engagement with and monitoring of Westminster activities (e.g. select committees, reports, consultations) and liaise with key communications and policy stakeholders in the Department for Education, Office for Students and other relevant bodies.

• Take overall responsibility for TASO’s online and social media presence. This will involve overseeing a critical website redevelopment project over the next year and also includes oversight of the creation, upkeep and management of digital channels and content.

• Lead on TASO’s media relations, producing high quality press releases and news stories for the website, liaising with journalists, as appropriate.

• Lead on the delivery of a programme of stakeholder engagement events for a wide range of audiences. The events will range from small training sessions to larger events including publication launches and an annual conference.

• Provide line management for communications staff who will support all activities – including two direct reports and overseeing a team of three. 

• Undertake projects and duties as required or requested by the Chief Executive or broader team.

Education should be the means to break the link between demographics and destiny. Yet every week 109 children in England – equivalent to three full classrooms – are asked to leave their schools and never come back, with disastrous personal and societal consequences. The Difference, a young education charity, was founded to change the story on this lost learning. It exists to build the status and expertise of teachers working with vulnerable children, particularly those who are excluded from mainstream schools.

By 2030, The Difference want rates of exclusion and absence to be falling nationally and for schools to be better equipped to support all children, including those who may be vulnerable.

The organisation was born out of a year of research into school exclusions with think-tank IPPR. This research identified a lack of inclusion expertise in schools and proposed a new leadership development programme to fill this gap. In 2018, The Difference founder Kiran hired the team who took this idea from concept to reality, beginning work with our first schools.

The Difference is now a 22-strong team delivering multiple school leadership programmes, alongside a growing research and policy arm. The team is supported by our Youth Advisory Board, made up of young people who have experienced exclusion and who provide their expertise and insights on how school inclusion work should be done. This work is needed more than ever. Effects of COVID-19, coupled with the spiralling cost of living, have substantially increased levels of vulnerability. Schools serving excluded pupils face under-funding. The Difference has had excellent early impact but there is work ahead to capture this, share learning with schools and policy-makers, and grow our capacity to lower exclusions across England.

Our first permanent Head of Fundraising will drive the growth and sustainability of our fundraising function. Having proved the impact on exclusions via our programmes, you will help us generate the income to scale this success across the country. We need an expert fundraiser to support this journey. • Drive the delivery of a new fundraising strategy for The Difference, motivating and involving key members of the team, particularly the Development and Impact Manager.

Please note that this role can be offered on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of 3 days a week in the office.

ROLE DETAILS 

Standing Voice is looking for an experienced Fundraising Manager based in or near London to join our UK team. This is an exciting and challenging role in a creative and focused working environment, within an organisation with multiple programmes and funding streams across 3 countries. This position suits an ambitious and experienced fundraiser, equipped with excellent written and oral communication skills and a depth of donor management experience. 

The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director and be tasked with advancing & implementing Standing Voice’s Fundraising Strategy including writing grants proposals; diversifying & scaling-up the organisation’s income streams; and managing donor relations and reporting. As well as working alongside UK fundraising, programmes and finance colleagues, the Fundraising Manager will work directly with our teams in Tanzania and Malawi to design and generate project proposals. 

Suitable candidates will demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills; a high level of organisation and accuracy in their work; and concrete experience of generating income through trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, institutional donors, philanthropy partnerships, and individual giving. Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop SV’s Fundraising Strategy

• Identify, research and implement innovative funding methods to diversify and strengthen SV’s income base

• Secure funding from a diverse portfolio of new and existing donors, including: trusts and foundations; corporate partnerships; institutional donors; philanthropy partnerships; and individual giving

• Host meetings with philanthropists and foundation directors to generate interest in SV’s work and secure support 

• Manage SV’s grant research to maintain a database of viable funding opportunities for the organisation

• Lead the development and writing of concept notes, proposals, presentations and pitches to prospective donors

• Draft funder reports in collaboration programmes and finance teams, and manage report submissions in line with funder agreements

• Work effectively with the Head of Programmes and Partnerships and Finance Manager to collate project information, in order to enhance funding applications and reports

• Manage SV’s donor management tools

• Build relationships with our donors to foster long-term partnerships

• Identify and execute funding campaigns, including our annual Big Give Christmas match funding challenge

• Track and monitor fundraising progress, trends, and insights, and provide reports to executive management and the Board of Trustees

• Recruit new staff and volunteers to the fundraising team in line with available budget

• Delegate effectively to fundraising team members, ensuring tasks are clearly defined, properly supported and well monitored 

• Remain abreast of current trends in fundraising and donor interests

• Adhere to the Code of Fundraising Practice and all internal policies at SV

• Experienced in managing staff.

• Experienced in developing and implementing HR Strategies specifically related to learning and development.
