Research Programme Manager

We are pleased to be working with the the trust to recruit a new Research & Grants Programme Manager to join its small and very focused team. Working in a hybrid manner with up to two days in offices in Hammersmith, London, and the remainder working remotely from home.

The role:

Working closely with the CEO, this pivotal role will oversee the entire grant-making processes and funding activities of the trust, in addition to driving the intellectual rigor of the research work of its grantees, in line with the core charitable objectives of the trust. This will involve managing all aspects of pre and post-award research management, reporting writing, grant finance management and governance, co-ordination of the trust’s scientific committees and shaping external scientific communications to supporters and other stakeholders.

A central element of the role will be to manage the trust’s research funding initiatives, nurturing existing relationships with a broad network of high-level panels of experts and peer reviewers, as well as a wide range of stakeholders and past and present grantees. Working closely with the CEO, this person will maintain an expansive and knowledgeable view of the research landscape, understanding the important changes and influences relevant to the work of the trust. Leading on the Trust’s communications by producing social media and website content in addition to external reporting, this role will also support and manage its annual conference.
 
The person:

The successful candidate will have substantial and demonstrable experience of high-level research management in combination with an extensive grants-management and funding process management background. Educated ideally to PhD level in a scientific subject, or the equivalent in high-level research-led programme management experience, this person will be ambitious with excellent attention to detail and an intellectually curious and rigorous approach. A background in science based, research led, grant-making will be important as well as having a systematic and process driven approach. This experience would ideally have been gained in the charity sector or the higher education or grant-making sectors.

Experience of impact measurement, grants report writing and preparing content for communications and social media will be important, in addition to having an understanding of scientific research across the UK and overseas. This person will be highly numerate, organized and methodical in their approach and will see this role as a fantastic opportunity to bring creative ideas and experience to the table, in order to make a real and lasting difference in the research led field of musculoskeletal and related inflammatory diseases in the UK and overseas.

The Karlsson Játiva Charitable Foundation ('KJCF') is a grant-making charity with its roots straddling Sweden, Latin America and the UK. We have been developing long-term relationships with several dozen partner organisations that deliver our programmes: to enable more people to engage in musicianship and provide access to high quality music in the UK and the Nordic countries; to improve the lives and livelihoods of children and families in the Andean countries of Latin America; and we are about to launch a new funding programme that will award major grants in the UK, with the aim of making a difference where we can. About the role

This role will support Kinship to operate as an effective charity by ensuring effective day-to-day operations and seamless delivery of the People function at the charity.

You will bring your People leadership experience, attention to detail and excellent communication skills to the role. You will be structured in your approach to ensure that day-to-day issues are handled while also working to improve processes and systems. You will be credible with senior management and able to articulate and balance the trade-offs of a People leadership role.

You will be able to balance multiple competing priorities and prioritise effectively, A positive mindset is key to being part of the team, as is thinking creatively to problem solve and being empathetic to colleagues. You will be highly motivated by our mission, recognising that excellent internal People processes are essential to allowing others to effectively complete their roles and achieve our mission.

You will be a powerful ambassador for our mission, credible with other HR and CSR professionals working to implement kinship friendly employer policies and processes.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Work with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the Executive management team to design, develop and embed a high-quality HR function to support the employee life cycle.

• Responsible for ensuring all policies, procedures, and processes relating to people and culture, work effectively, efficiently and in line with legal requirements.

• Responsible for all People matters, ensuring they are handled fairly and consistently in line with policies and procedures.

• Support and advise line managers on People, EDI and change management activities, including promotions, disciplinary, capability and grievance procedures.

• Organise line manager training to ensure line managers understand their responsibilities and apply policies consistently.

• Responsible for the candidates’ recruitment experience. Ensure candidates receive a consistent and professional recruitment experience.

• Responsible for job descriptions, person specifications, recruitment packs and job adverts.

• Ensure offboarding processes are robust and implemented consistently to safeguard the charity’s assets and to comply with Data Protection rules.

• Lead on the delivery and growth of the ‘Kinship Friendly Employers’ scheme, driving growth in the scheme and the number of bronze, silver and gold partners

• Ensure Kinship role models ‘Kinship Friendly’ employment practices and seek opportunities to share these as examples with other HR professionals.

• Support fundraising efforts with corporate supporters who are ‘Kinship Friendly Employers’

Essential criteria includes:

• HR qualification or significant demonstrable experience.

• Coaching qualification or significant demonstrable experience.

• Demonstrable experience of supporting the development of a high-quality People function within a growing organisation.

• Demonstrable experience working in a changing and flexible organisation.

• Demonstrable problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.

• Demonstrable knowledge of best practices, employment laws, and regulations.

• Effective communication skills.

• Strong interpersonal skills – a genuine team player able to relate to a wide range of people.

Deputy Head of Youth Work

The Deputy Head of Youth Work (Targeted & Partnerships) is a crucial role sitting within the Youth Zone Delivery Team. Reporting to the Head of Youth Work, you will be responsible for closely supporting the co-ordination, planning and delivery of an exceptional seven day per week youth offer within a state-of-the-art multi-million-pound centre.

About the Role

Through line management of your team and in collaboration with partners, you will ensure that the Youth Zone is accessed by all young people who need it the most. You will oversee community engagement outreach as part of the delivery ensuring the organisation continues to have a strong reputation and there remains a good awareness of the offer.

You will also be accountable for ensuring strong evidence of effective performance in line with vision, mission, values, and strategic objectives and that the team are afforded continuing professional development opportunities. You will need to be a big voice within a large team, owning and demonstrating a strong ethos, commitment, and dedication to improving the lives of children and young people and uniting them to fulfil their full potential. You will be confident in your abilities and able to deputise effectively for our Head of Youth Work as and when required. You will also be a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Officer.

Key responsibilities include:

• Line management of Female Engagement, Employability, Inclusion Coordinator and Outreach

• Monitoring, evaluation and reporting of all sessions including restricted-funding projects 

• Ensure the quality of the youth work offer across all direct report areas meet the standards of the organisation 

• Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships

• Manage one off projects, events and promotional activities 

• Identify suitable restricted-funding projects 

• Support, and in some cases manage, targeted projects as and when they come up, including budget management, and ensuring full monitoring and evaluation compliance

• Ensure that overall programme participation targets are consistently met

• Oversee budget lines of direct reports

• Work with the Head of Youth Work to prepare rotas 

• Working alongside the Head of Youth Work to ensure programmes are structured effectively and safely

• Lead sessions when required (usually this will be to cover annual leave or other staff absence)
