Our Muscle Group meetings provide a warm, friendly space for people affected by muscle-wasting and weakening conditions to meet with others in their local area. The groups meet either in person or on Zoom; three meetings per year are held in each of the 14 regions. Muscle Group meetings are a relaxed, confidential forum for people to ask questions, share experiences and learn from guest speakers. They should be fully accessible to all, including family, friends, and carers of those living with conditions.

You will lead on the organisation of these meetings and management of the volunteers who chair them, ensuring throughout that meetings meet the needs of our community.  

You will also support the Volunteer Engagement Manager to ensure that volunteers across the organisation are recruited, trained and managed effectively. Here at MDUK, it’s important that all our volunteers are supported in their roles – this includes an induction process that sets clear expectations and provides the training and resources they need, regular open communication with employees, and opportunities for peer-to-peer volunteer support. Team members will work with volunteers to ensure we’re making the best use of their skills and experience and that they get the most they can from their role.

Safeguarding Manager

Salary Range: £44,000 pro rata equivalent

In2scienceUK’s aim is to promote social mobility and diversity in science, technology, engineering and maths. We do this by leveraging the skills and passion of researchers and STEM professionals to support young people (16+) from low socio-economic backgrounds to achieve their potential and progress to degrees and careers in STEM.

The successful applicant will be joining In2scienceUK at an exciting point in its mission having recently launched a number of new initiatives, both in-person and online, to support young people build the skills, knowledge and confidence to build successful careers in STEM.

Role Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Safeguarding Manager to join our growing team and own our safeguarding processes end to end. This is a crucial role to ensure the safety of the young people we work with and that In2scienceUK provides a safe environment for all.

This role is part time and contract based and would be ideal for someone who has significant experience of safeguarding and child protection law, as well as experience

in carrying out safeguarding audits, implementing safeguarding processes for both in person and online offers, as well as internal and external safeguarding training.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review and audit existing safeguarding practices and procedures throughout the organisation.

• Manage and deliver a plan to improve practices and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and guidance.

• Produce safeguarding policies, codes of conduct, and any other documentation needed to meet our commitment to safeguarding.

• Design and deliver effective in-person and online safeguarding training and guidance for trustees, staff, volunteers, partners and beneficiaries.

• Provide safeguarding support and guidance for our volunteers and partners, particularly concerning work experience placements and mentoring.

• Manage safeguarding concerns and disclosures as they arise, and escalate concerns in line with our safeguarding policies including making external referrals. 

• Ensure that our safeguarding records and processes are in compliance with Child Protection Law and GDPR regarding the processing of data and acting as a data controller.

• Responsible for fostering a culture of ‘safeguarding first’ across the organisation and with our volunteers, ensuring that our activities are designed with safeguarding embedded. 

• Stay up to date with all legislation and guidance on Safeguarding, child protection and protecting Adults at Risk within locations In2scienceUK operates and provides a single point of contact for this support - currently England, Wales and Scotland with ambition for future expansion.

• Support with the development of any policy, guidance and practice that relates to safeguarding our stakeholders, e.g. the legal status of work experience hosts, health and safety, DBS checks.

Knowledge and Experience:

Essential:

• Level 4 safeguarding accreditation.

• Strong existing knowledge of safeguarding and child protection laws in England, Wales and Scotland.

• Experience of implementing safeguarding processes to online, in-person and residential programme delivery designed for young people 16+.

• Experience of designing and delivering relevant training appropriately tailored to different audiences.

• Experience of working across departments and with trustees to produce appropriate processes and policies.

• Experience of dealing with being the first point of contact for complex cases for both children and adults at risk and making necessary referrals.

• Existing knowledge of Data Protection and how it applies to Safeguarding.

Desirable:

• Previous experience working with work placement and/or mentoring programmes and legal requirements for carrying these out.

• Previous wellbeing, counselling or similar training.

• Mental Health First Aid training

What the job involves 

This is an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant Brand and Media (Attention) team within our wider Communications directorate. As the Media and Communications Manager, you’ll be the team’s lead on Health Services, Equity and Improvement (including policy and campaigns) and Research communications, delivering impactful media moments which inspire action and drive positive change for men with, or at risk of, prostate cancer.

You’ll raise the profile of the cause and the brand, co-managing the activity of the charity’s media relations function and protecting the organisation’s principles and reputation. You’ll also be acting as line manager to the Senior Media and Communications Officer.

What we want from you

You’ll be an excellent communicator with a strong understanding of different communication channels and have specialist knowledge of media relations. Role Purpose

The main purpose of the programmes team is to grow, develop and deliver all aspects of the day-to-day relationship management of:

· Schools and colleges running the Career Ready programme

Each Regional Manager is responsible for a local patch which currently typically consists of 5-6 schools or colleges, up to 100 students and 4-5 operational relationships with our corporate partners. Regional Managers will also be responsible for building and maintaining a local network of employer supporters and seeking opportunities for new employer support ..

There will be opportunities to be creative, as well as being autonomous in how you run and develop the programme with the Career Ready schools and colleges in your area.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities

Centre Management and Student Support

· You will work 1:1 with our community of school/college coordinators in your region to support them in delivering the programme. This will require regular meetings and communication, to support coordinators with the planning and managing of masterclasses, workplace visits and other Career Ready events for students and volunteers

· Regularly communicate and report to the Head of Programmes  

· Execute our strategy across the region

· Support schools and colleges in programme onboarding (students and mentors) and delivery of paid internships

· From time to time there may be a need to deliver sessions to skills and careers leads and to groups of young people within the school and college setting

· Recruit new schools and colleges to the network from the region in accordance with priority target areas. Manage their induction, training, activities prior to launch and implementation of the Career Ready programme

· Assist schools and colleges on our programmes to plan, manage and run events (i.e. icebreakers, launches, or student promotion sessions) and be prepared to present at such events.

Partnership Management, Stakeholder Engagement & Business Development

· Day-to-day operational account management for employer supporters, ensuring they have excellent experiences.

General

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Corporate Partnerships Coordinator is the first point of contact for companies at Trees for Cities. They engage with companies interested in employee volunteering and/or funding partnerships to deliver our goal of healthy, accessible and resilient urban forests for today and future generations.

They are responsible for coordinating employee volunteering opportunities including producing compelling volunteering materials, responding to corporate queries and bookings, managing the volunteering calendar to support with project delivery, and ensuring effective systems and processes.

The Coordinator will manage corporate partners for a range of funding options such as charitable donations, cause-related marketing, and project sponsorship up to £10,000 per year. They will support the Fundraising team to manage corporate income by conducting prospect research and ethical evaluations, as well as database support.

We have achieved significant income growth since the start of our last strategy period – and more is needed to address the increasing need for urban trees. We now look forward to our next strategy in 2025 for even more ambitious plans – join us!

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage corporate enquiries, ensuring a smooth and high-quality experience. This includes providing rapid responses and directing to internal point of contacts as appropriate.
• Act as the primary point of contact for companies to coordinate volunteering days, including booking one-off corporate volunteering days or scheduling volunteering days as part of existing partnership agreements. Volunteering opportunities may be in London, across the UK or international.
• Ensure a smooth and high-quality experience for corporate partners giving <£10,000 annually to Trees for Cities. This includes producing compelling organisational and project communications, engaging promotional and stewardship materials, and managing necessary administration such as invoices, agreements, and other donor requirements.
• Work with colleagues in the Fundraising, Development, and Urban Forest teams to plan and facilitate corporate volunteering opportunities across the UK. This may also include liaising with third parties (landowners and delivery partners).
• Conduct prospect research and ethical evaluations on prospective corporate partners.
• Maintain accurate and up to date records including through our CRM databases (Salesforce, Monday, Donorfy), supporting the Fundraising team as needed.

The role sits in our global communications team, working with, and reporting to, the Head of Communications. Responsibilities

The Communications Officer (Media) will have a particular focus on increasing international media coverage of BHRRC’s work and research, and the activities of our partners, including in the field of labour rights. Responsibilities will include:

Drive a proactive and strategic press approach: Spot opportunities for high impact coverage in target outlets, building on existing press lists, develop relationships with priority journalists, and create and pitch compelling content to media, including media advisories, press releases and related materials.

Develop high-impact communications products, synthesising complex research and data sets: Work with our Global Team to develop materials which speak to our key audiences. Develop key messages for our priority programmes and also discrete outputs including individual briefings and research reports.

Contribute to organisational and project communications strategies and planning: Support the Head of Communications to implement our communications strategy. Advise project managers on strategic communications and support launch project planning. Keep our planning calendar up to date and help ensure deadlines are met.

Produce well-written content: Write and edit channel-appropriate content for our audiences. Support the Global Team to produce high-quality and newsworthy reports, op-eds and blogs.

Support digital outputs: Support the Web Content and Senior Digital Officers as appropriate, creating content for our digital platform and social media platforms (including priority platforms LinkedIn and Twitter).

Support the communications team: Provide on-call cover for the media line, with occasional infrequent out of hours work, and share admin jobs.

Key competencies and attributes

Experience: At least 3 years’ experience in a communications role, including working in a busy press office, communications department or as a journalist.

Media: Sharp news sense and editorial judgement; ability to conceive, craft and pitch news stories and carry out fast reactive work. Knowledge of and experience of working with the mainstream media, including knowledge of the editorial positions, audiences, and sections or programmes of key outlets. In addition, ideally, knowledge of international business media or media in some specific countries or regions.

Relationship building: Track record of developing relationships with journalists on key issues. Any existing contacts of relevance to BHRRC’s work a bonus.

For-impact communications: Excellent understanding of how strategic communications can work with research and advocacy approaches to achieve change. Proven ability to synthesis and communicate complex and sensitive information; understanding of how to tailor content to different audiences, contexts and channels. Outstanding written English and good oral communications ability.

Project management: Track record of leading and/or implementing complex projects including planning (timelining), execution and evaluation of lessons learned.

Strategic thinking: Track record of helping to develop successful communications strategies to effect change. Experience tailoring communications products for diverse international audiences an asset.

Supporting staff: Enthusiasm for supporting colleagues with communications. Experience supporting staff either through training, coaching or assisting with media advice an asset.

Team player: Experience of, and commitment to, working in high-performing teams that are highly collaborative and focused on outcomes. Experience of working with colleagues remotely, and in multicultural and diverse cultures and working environments also desirable.

Knowledge of human rights issues: A strong interest in international issues and familiarity with social justice issues desirable.
