About SOS Bus

SOS Bus Norwich is a multi-agency initiative offering a safe space and frontline support to anyone in need during Norwich’s nightlife. Staffed by trained volunteers and medical professionals, it provides help with illness, injury, emotional distress, vulnerability, or getting home safely. The bus acts as a crucial first point of contact for anyone whose well-being is at risk.

What will you be doing?

You'll be taking over from the current Chair, Dr Jamie Mather. He and his fellow founding trustees have established the charity, its identity, processes, governance and strategy and this is an opportunity to work with a refreshed board and an amazing volunteer team as they move onto the next stage of their journey.

Alongside the responsibilities of a trustee the Chair will:

• Plan and chair board meetings (or appoint a deputy if absent), ensuring they are effective and purposeful.
• Provide leadership to help the board meet its governance responsibilities.
• Act as a key spokesperson, alongside the operational manager.
• Ensure trustees receive accurate, timely, and clear information (with support from admin and advisors).
• Promote unity and constructive discussion among trustees.
• Support and liaise closely with the operational manager.
• Lead the operational manager’s appraisal and, if needed, recruitment of senior staff.
• Serve as the link between trustees, management, and volunteers.
• Take urgent or strategic action between board meetings when required and authorised.

Time Commitment

Estimated time commitment is 5-15 hours a month – including a board meeting (set) and work around individual brief (in one’s own time).

Board meetings: 

• Board meetings are held monthly. 
• 2/3rds of trustee meetings are online via MS Teams and 1/3rd are face to face. 
• Face to face meetings held in various locations around Norwich. 
• Our future plan is to move to quarterly board meetings with 75% face to face attendance.

• Proven success in a senior leadership role, ideally in a charity - as a CEO/CFO/COO (or equivalent) or an experienced trustee.

• Sound understanding of charity governance.

Could you be a star baker, master chef or perhaps you simply enjoy baking or cooking! We are recruiting for a volunteer to join our team supporting individuals to learn new recipes together as a group.

Baking and cooking helps to relax, get creative and indulge in our senses. Often, it can spark nostalgia and helps us to recreate positive experiences or memories. Inspire and motivate people in our services to do something that brings joy, an opportunity to learn new skills whilst connecting with others over sharing baked goods and delicious meals.

We work with people who need support with their mental health across London and the South East. Our support ranges from registered accommodation services for people with severe mental health conditions to drop-in community and crisis services.

In the last year, 9,499 adults accessed Hestia’s mental health support.

We help people to feel safe, develop hope for a better future, and achieve their personal goals. These goals may include rebuilding relationships with family members and friends or connecting more with their local community.

What you will be doing

• Research and plan new recipes for cooking/baking sessions in collaboration with the group each week
• Encourage individuals to participate in the sessions and delegate cooking tasks
• Support individuals to shop for ingredients needed for the session
• Support individuals each week in setting up for the sessions and tidying away afterwards
• Encourage individuals to participate in all aspects of the planning and attendance
• Keep a record of attendees, provide feedback and report any concerns to the staff team

• Food Safety Certificate/knowledge or willingness to complete relevant training
• Passion and knowledge of healthy eating and cooking
• Ability to engage, encourage and motivate individuals to participate in sessions

What are we looking for?

A talented, reliable and committed individual with varied commercial and charity experience, to provide additional guidance and contribute to the strategic direction of the charity, as Chair of Trustees and line manager to the centre’s General Manager.

Previous experience in a similar environment and/or third sector role will be helpful, particularly with Board or Executive Committee experience. Other specific business skills will be useful in supporting and coaching the existing team, for example:

The time commitment requires virtual or on-site attendance at quarterly Board meetings and other ad hoc committee meetings, including participating in occasional community events. Regular line management meetings and site visits will also be necessary to monitor progress, provide advice and gain the required insight to be the critical friend to the charity.

Organisation of meetings, and support to the executive team is anticipated to take around 5 hours per week, although this could vary significantly, as specific projects may involve additional work and time.  

What will you be doing?

As an individual with experience and knowledge of how successful organisations operate, you will coordinate meetings and make decisions with the Board of Trustees and the General Manager to help design, implement and support strategies that will enhance the long-term sustainability of the charity. You will work closely with other Trustees, and get to know about clients, staff, partners and beneficiaries. You will make a difference by bringing your commercial acumen, and specialist knowledge to drive efficiency within the charity’s operations and ensure that opportunities to demonstrate best practice are identified in all that we do. You will be curious and willing to challenge the status quo, but also support, coach and mentor.

As Chair of the Board you will ensure that meetings are relevant, timely, well planned, structured and concise. In doing all of this, you will play a key role in helping to secure the future of the charity by achieving its objectives in the immediate and long term.

Preference may be given to individuals who are connected to our community, with local knowledge and networks. We will also welcome diversity on the Board, in our quest to represent our community fully, particularly youth, disability and ethnic minorities.

EASTLEIGH YOUTH AND COMMUNITY TRUST - What do we do?

We are an independent charity, based at the Pavilion on the Park in Eastleigh. We exist to promote active and flourishing lives by creating a variety of energising and enriching experiences which connect people and build community. We do this by:

-   managing a purpose-built inclusive community building, available for public hire;

-   engaging people in social, recreational, and cultural activities which promote personal development, wellbeing and connection;

-   working with other local organisations towards a shared common purpose of developing a thriving community and improving lives in Eastleigh;

-   adopting a ‘whole-systems approach’ to place-making in Eastleigh;

People come together regularly at the Pavilion on the Park for many different reasons. On average, around 500 people a week benefit from the numerous, varied activities and events that take place. These include participants in both Trust-led and hirer-led activities, private bookings, and customers of our café.

We are delighted to have recently secured almost £500k from the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund to deliver a five-year community project. This will enable us to develop new activities and opportunities which are led by the communities we serve.

Our current Trust-led programme of activities include:

One4all – a social and recreational programme for adults with additional needs.

Little Pixies & Pixies Plus – stay, learn and play activities for 0–8-year-olds and their adult carers.

Cycles4all – adapted bikes available for hire five days a week.

Sensory4all – specialist sensory therapy in a purpose-designed space

Connect2Thrive –activities which bring the community together in collective action to promote sustainable and self-sufficient living and good physical and mental health.

In addition, The Blackbird Café is open seven-days a week and provides locally sourced, home-cooked cakes and savouries. It is a social hub for dog walkers, park runners, activity groups and friendship groups. It is a popular choice for people with disabilities who have the confidence of an inclusive environment and a Changing Places facility on hand. We are also home to many regular hirers, including Aspire Martial Arts, Thrive Church, 4th Eastleigh Scouts, Laura Green Yoga, Harmony Twirlers, and many more.

Disability Peterborough, legally registered as DIAL Peterborough, is a user-led charity dedicated to supporting physically disabled individuals and their families in Peterborough and the surrounding areas.

What will you be doing?

As a Board member of Disability Peterborough, you will serve as both a Director of the Company and a Trustee of the Charity. You will play an integral part in guiding the strategic direction of the charity to meet the needs of physically disabled people of Peterborough, ensuring it fulfils its objectives and operates in accordance with its charity objects and Articles of Association as a Company Ltd by Guarantee.

Amy’s Place is a partnership between the Amy Winehouse Foundation and Clarion Housing, providing supported living accommodation for young women aged 18-30 in recovery from drugs, alcohol and other addictive behaviors.

An enthusiastic, reliable and compassionate volunteer with good interpersonal skills and a desire to help others. The volunteer must be a fully qualified Dietitian or Nutritional Therapist and have training and/or experience working with individuals with eating disorders.

Activities

• Supporting the nutritional needs of young women with health issues on a limited budget.
• Providing support with meal planning, cooking skills, food safety, and day-to-day problem solving around food and eating.
• Providing wisdom and accurate nutrition education around healthy eating for the individual.

Qualifications/ Experience

• Must be a fully qualified Dietitian or Nutritional Therapist.
• As many of the residents have eating disorders it is essential for the volunteer to have training and/or clinical experience working with individuals with eating disorders.
• Must have professional liability insurance and be a member of a professional body ie. HCPC, BANT
• This role requires us to carry out a check through the Disclosure and Barring Service for the Enhanced DBS

Commitment 

This is a flexible opportunity and volunteering times and frequency will vary depending on the volunteer’s availability and the needs of the residents. We recommend weekly one-to-one sessions for a minimum of 3 months.

Support 

•  Volunteers receive a thorough induction and have access to any relevant in-house and external training
•  Reasonable travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed

As an Ecommerce Cleaner Volunteer, you’ll play a key part in helping us maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our team. Your contribution will help ensure our ecommerce operations run smoothly and our donated goods are processed in a hygienic and organised space.

Duties and Responsibilities

Your typical tasks may include:

• Dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors and surfaces
• Cleaning windows and mirrors
• Wiping down counters, shelves, and loose furniture
• Scrubbing and sanitising toilets, sinks, and kitchen areas

Independent Visitor Volunteer

Our Independent Visitor Volunteers provide consistent and supportive relationships to children ad young people in care, offering emotional support, companionship, and guidance through shared activities and time together.  The Independent Visitor plays a vital role in helping the young people build confidence and feel secure while enhancing their personal, social, and cultural development.

As an Independent Visitor Volunteer in England, you might:

• support the child/young person to experience enriching activities that contribute to their personal and cultural development 
• engage in activities such as pursuing hobbies, meeting for meals, or socialising in a community setting 
• listen to and support the young person, fostering a sense of safety and trust 
• help the young person develop social skills and increase their involvement in their community

The Commonwealth Pharmacists Association is looking for a volunteer Graphic & Visual Designer to help us pro-bono for up to one day per week.

Why are we recruiting for a pro bono contractor?

As a global non-profit whose funding is primarily for our impactful in-country programmes, we have very little budget for our marketing and communications needs, and there are very few sources of funding for charities to get help with this. We need to create capacity within our staff team to free up time to focus on activities like fundraising in the hope that we can one day invest more in our human and technical communications resources.

This role could suit:

• An early career professional graphic designer looking for a unique professional opportunity for their portfolio that showcases their skill and impact at a global level.

• An experienced, professional graphic designer looking to give back to a worthy cause by using their professional skill set.

• A capable “amateur” graphic designer looking for a solid, stable opportunity to develop their professional portfolio and secure a robust client reference from a respected organisation.

• A professional graphic designer looking for an opportunity to contribute their core skills whilst accessing mentoringship from a professional who can provide advice and insight on furthering their current career, working in the charity sector, or broadening skills to include PR, media relations, strategic communications, copywriting, copyediting and more.

Role definition and Purpose

To support the CPA’s global Communications Team by producing impactful, original and eye-catching designs for both print and digital usage that support our programmes to improve healthcare outcomes for patients in more than 60 countries. The pro bono contractor will work with the Communications Team to create or format content in line with the CPA’s evolving Brandbook, having a chance to make their mark on the identity of this global organisation.

About CPA’s design philosophy

In our approach to visual design, we seek to create content in line with an aesthetic theory that can arguably be described as a form of digital neoclassicism in its aesthetic values. By this, we mean our designs embrace the best of the modern digital aesthetic popular in the Global North, making use of the colour blocking and some simplicity of the “vector minimialism” that became the foundation of the Corporate Memphis identity. We favour designs that lend themselves to accessibility, elegance and ease of visual navigation.

However, we also seek to recall the best of the Frutiger Aero aesthetic that dominated digital media from the mid-2000s to early 2010s in the Global North, and which in many ways lives on in the contemporary aesthetic choices popular in South Africa, India and South-East Asia. CPA’s aesthetic eschews both flat design and the dispersonal visualisations of Corporate Memphis for the three-dimensionality and emotional authenticity of Frutiger Aero. We add a maximalist flourish, playing with perspective, colour and boundaries in a way that helps bring our designs to life and make them relevant to our audience whilst still feeling fresh, clean and contemporary.

We cherish being pixel perfect for accessibility and comfort, but embrace the freedom to make considered choices to break the rules for visibility and impact.

• Strengthen your portfolio with a unique pro bono opportunity. You will be able to evidence working on global healthcare campaigns and projects that reach people in dozens of countries around the world, and will have a chance to help shape the visual identity of a global NGO.

Our charity works to improve the lives of patients in more than 30 countries with our highly impactful in-country partnership programmes. Your graphic design work will help make the world a healthier, happier and safer place for all.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with the Communications Team to produce visually appealing graphical assets in line with CPA’s new Brandbook.

• Create visual content to support social media campaigns and enhance educational content on our CPD Platform, working to a brief provided by colleagues.

• Offer expert advice and support in the formulation of visual content, particularly for social media and web.

• Professionally brand and format documents to the specifications of the Communications Lead and the Brandbook.

• In the future, the pro bono contractor may be asked to help contribute to an update to the visual identity of the charity.

Person Specification 

• Experience, competency using and independent access to advanced graphic design tools, which should include at least one tool on the list below, or an equivalent:

  • Adobe Photoshop

  • Adobe Illustrator

  • Adobe InDesign

  • Affinity Publisher

  • Affinity Designer

  • Affinity Photo

  • CorelDraw

• Experience using Canva or Adobe Express is also desirable, but we are ideally looking for someone with skill in a more advanced tool.

• Comfortable working with design asks for web and print.

• Understanding of the principles of good design, in particular balance, proportion, hierarchy, movement, variety, rhythm and use of white / negative space.

• Passion for visual identity and good graphic design, exciting by the prospect of working with a brand that celebrates the best of modern digital design but embraces the best elements of previous eras.

• Strong people skills, able to work well with a diverse team of people drawn from cultures and countries around the world.

• Attend a fortnightly team meeting online, which will be held during UK working hours (9am – 5pm UTC).

Main Tasks:

We appreciate any volunteering help that you can offer YBTC and want to make sure that our

Founded in 2003 and originally named Andrea’s Gift and later Brain Tumour Research and Support

Across Yorkshire, Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity (YBTC) is Yorkshire and Humber’s leading

brain tumour charity. Offering practical, financial and emotional support to both adult and child

brain tumour patients, together with their families.

We fund brain tumour research in Yorkshire; we hope this research, dedicated to identifying new

approaches to the discovery and treatment of brain tumours will improve outcomes for patients.

At YBTC we are a small team who are growing to meet the needs of those affected by a brain

tumour in Yorkshire. Around 15 new cases of primary brain tumours are diagnosed in the region

every week.

Fresh Futures is a Kirklees-based charity aiming to improve lives and inspire change for vulnerable and  disadvantaged children, young people, adults, and families.

Our vision is for everyone to have opportunities for a better life, now and in the future.

To achieve this, Fresh Futures focuses on four interwoven strands: Education, Health & Wellbeing, Employability & Skills, and Relationships.

What will you be doing?

One of Fresh Futures key services is Brian Jackson College, an alternative education provision. The college can support up to 100 young people aged 13 to 18 based across three sites, in Heckmondwike and Huddersfield. The College is rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted.

There are ambitious plans to grow the provision across Kirklees and neighbouring areas in the near future.

The Board of Governors is a sub committee of Fresh Futures Board of Trustees. Governors can also be appointed as Trustees of the Charity, but do not need to be so.

The role of the Governors is to:

· Ensure clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction

· Hold the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the College students, and the performance management of staff

· Oversee the financial performance of the College and make sure budgets are allocated appropriately

Governors are asked to attend 4 meetings a year, one per term, usually held virtually via Teams, and one in-person awayday.

What are we looking for?

We are looking to fill vacancies on our Trustee board and on our Finance and Governors sub committees.

Members of these committees do not necessarily have to also be Trustees. We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.

We are particularly interested in recruiting new Trustees/members who have experience in any of the following:

· Health and safety

· Charity finance

· Marketing & PR

· Charity fundraising

· The commercial sector

· Knowledge of Kirklees

· Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
