Job Title: Deputy Service Manager

Location: Based across 4 residential services based in Croydon (11 minute walk from East Croydon station) you will need to be able to travel between sites during the night shift to provide full managerial support. Access to own transport is ideal. Please note that unfortunately this service does not have step free access

Salary: £30,200

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, supporting the night team who predominantly work Monday to Sunday 20:00 - 08:00, you will work within these hours, as well as daytime hours to attend trainings and meetings. You will also take part in our out of hours on call rota.

About the role

We're looking for a Deputy Service Manager to join our residential service based in Croydon. You will support the Service Manager to provide leadership and line management to a team of Night Recovery Workers and Night Concierge which totals around 10. You will be present to ensure a quality service is delivered 24 hours a day, working closely with the day teams to ensure quality handovers. 

You will provide general leadership to the team so they feel empowered to be productive and perform well within their roles, supporting a service which focuses on Forensic Mental Health for 27 people across 4 sites in Croydon. The teams support our residents with person centred support to empower them to overcome their personal barriers with their mental health, and have greater independence and fulfilled living. 

Some key responsibilities include:

• Line Management including providing support and guidance, conducting support and supervisions, and ensuring duties are carried out effectively
• Support with the operational delivery of the service
• Risk Management ownership, ensuring processes and policies are followed
• Property and Housing Management; ensuring the accommodation meets our requirements and is safe to live in

About you

We are seeking a passionate, driven and motivated individual to lead the service in a trauma informed and inclusive way. You will have knowledge around the Mental Health complexities that residents can face, and have a can-do attitude which can help empower the team to deliver their KPI's. We look for:

Together this amounts to over £8 million annually, representing more than a quarter of our total income. 

As a Legacy and In Memory Executive, you will help increase awareness of gifts in Wills and maximise opportunities for in memory giving through the delivery of compelling, timely and supporter-focused communications. You will lead on the development and implementation of multichannel marketing campaigns, including copywriting, compiling design briefs and liaising with suppliers and agency partners to ensure that all activity is insight-led and aligned with strategic objectives.

You will be responsible for stewarding supporters with sensitivity and care, managing enquiries and pledges related to gifts in Wills and coordinating the delivery of meaningful journeys for in memory donors. Working closely with internal teams and external suppliers, you will oversee the production of marketing and collateral, managing relevant content across social media channels and sourcing case stories for use across the charity.

To be successful in this role, you will have experience delivering fundraising or marketing projects in any area. You should be confident using a relationship database to inform and report on stewardship activity and ensuring data is used effectively to enhance supporter journeys. You should also have an understanding of how to use insights, data and market trends to identify opportunities and make recommendations.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring people with lived experience of mental health challenges are meaningfully involved across the organisation, while also finding new ways to engage young people under 18 in a safe, inclusive and ethical way.

Service Overview: Our service aims to provide a safe and secure environment for individuals at a crisis point in their mental health. Operating from 6pm every day of the year, our goal is to reduce hospitalizations, dependency on A&E departments and police resources. Utilizing a social model of support, our staff team will employ appropriate de-escalation and support techniques while promoting clients’ abilities to manage their coping strategies.

Key Responsibilities: As a Crisis and Recovery Worker, you will provide practical and emotional support to service users in or facing a mental health crisis. You will identify and access opportunities for service users to gain independence and confidence. You will work with service users in a recovery-focused manner, aligned with their support and risk management plans. Collaboration with other professionals to deliver a consistent and coordinated service, maximizing outcomes for service users, is essential.

Candidate Requirements: Experience working with individuals with mental health needs is required. A warm personality and the ability to work in a person-centred manner, even in high-stress situations, are crucial. A clean driving licence and access to a car is beneficial. Flexibility to work on a rota basis to meet service needs is also expected.

As a member of the Admissions & support team, you will be supporting the recruitment and development of new social workers, who will then go onto change the lives of vulnerable children and families. You will play a key role in supporting the completion of all suitability checks (conduct, health and previous social care involvement) for Approach Social Work applicants, managing competing deadlines and multiple applicant cases at any one time.

The role requires a qualified social worker with experience of statutory practice and ideally substantial working knowledge of implementing reasonable adjustments in practice. The role involves primarily risk assessment to inform often difficult discussions around health, conduct and social care experience for applicants to Approach Social Work. Experience of taking part in panels, navigating sensitive discussion around criminal, conduct, previous social care involvement would be required.

Our suitability advisors are social work qualified and experienced members of the team who hold a vital position in ensuring all pre-programme checks are completed fully and fairly, for applicants to Approach Social Work. Suitability advisors are responsible for completing risk assessments where for applicants who disclose criminal, conduct, previous social care matters or disabilities which may need to be considered pre-programme. This is a role for a Sessional Facilitator and hours and days can be flexible based on how many Schools Mental Health Champion sessions you can run. Working hours will be restricted to school opening times and will run in the school day. This role will run annually from September to July and ideally a minimum of three hours a week (there are many more hours available). Individual schools receive 8-10 sessions over September to July with the same cohort of students throughout. Your role will be to support their mental health youth voice action to make a positive change in their school.

In this role, you'll support the Service Manager in line-managing the team, meeting service user goals, conducting holistic assessments, and creating support plans with accurate records on our ECCO system. Strong customer care and proactive communication skills are essential for managing risk and ensuring service user welfare.

Engage service users in meaningful planning and therapeutic activities, working collaboratively with their families and mental health professionals and agencies. An up-to-date understanding of recovery principles, mental health legislation, and interventions is required, along with knowledge of the MHA, MCA, DOLs, and care standards.
