At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education.

As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

We are looking to run a volunteering selection session during week commencing 28 July and 4 August 2025

Purpose of the role

To provide a positive, informative, sensitive and safe environment for those affected by EDS to share, learn and form a community.

What will you be doing? • Facilitating and hosting a minimum of 4 support group meetings in your local area every year, in a disabled friendly venue or virtually, using an allocated fund to cover the cost. • Checking your local social media regional group (Facebook) for messages and replying or signposting to the office or a local service. • Keeping up to date with training implemented by EDS UK and having guidance meetings as needed. • Giving facts and figures to your CM after each meeting • Checking your EDS UK email accounts at least once a week and responding to queries • Encouraging attendees to join The Ehlers-Danlos Support UK as a member • Signposting members to other support services • Liaising with fellow Area Coordinators in your region or in the UK

Skills and qualities needed Organised and self-motivated Good communication skills Compassionate and enthusiastic about helping others IT literate (email, Social media) A basic knowledge of EDS/HSD or understanding of chronic illness

Time commitment Quarterly support group meetings of 2/3 hours in length Checking in on the regional Facebook group a few times a week (30 mins per week) Checking and responding to emails as necessary (30 mins per week) Attending occasional Area Coordinator meetings (1 hour once a month) Some Area Coordinators run meetings more regularly, but there is no requirement to do so.

Support in the role • A full induction programme • We have a closed Facebook peer support group for Area Coordinators only to share experience and ask for information. • The CM’s and office staff will be there to support you within your role and can be in contact with you as much or as little as you need during office hours, and we encourage regular contact with us. We use the AC Facebook group and email to update all volunteers on any information we think they might find useful. • Monthly virtual Area Coordinator support group meeting on Zoom open to all volunteers. • Monthly Manager led AC meetings sharing information, best practice and taking feedback from volunteers. • A dedicated volunteer's website • Regional Messenger volunteer groups • Peer mentoring with an experienced Area Coordinator if requested

St John Ambulance Cymru has ambitious plans in place and a new strategy. We are seeking a Hospitaller for the Priory for Wales, taking a pivotal leadership role across the Priory.

The Hospitaller will be our key link as a Priory to the St John Eye Hospital Group (SJEHG) and lead our national fundraising activities in support of the wonderful work of the SJEHG. This will allow the right individual to recruit, inspire and lead the national Eye Hospital Panel taking responsibility across the Priory for our fundraising and liaison with the SJEHG.

The St John Eye Hospital Group (SJEHG) is the only charitable provider of expert eye care in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, treating patients regardless of ethnicity, religion or ability to pay. It has been active for over 140 years and each year treats around 135,000 patients. This helps to address the 80% of blindness in the region which is curable, most of whom would not have access to care without SJEHG.

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Communications Volunteer for the Huddersfield and Kirklees Group. As our Communications Volunteer you’ll make sure people know they have a local MS Society group to turn to.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your writing skills, and gain an experience of communicating across a range of digital channels. 

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

Skanda Vale Hospice offers unhurried, highly individualised care and respite to families affected by life-limiting illnesses, completely free of charge. A beautiful and happy place, filled with laughter and vibrant colour, our hospice is nurse led and primarily run by volunteers. Volunteering with us means being a valued part of a dedicated team who give of themselves wholeheartedly. Compassion is at the heart of what we do, expressed by human kindness, generosity and a deep commitment to the well-being of everyone we care for and work alongside.

What will I be doing?

• Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting and disinfecting surfaces in bedrooms, bathrooms and throughout the hospice.

• Washing, drying, and ironing laundry.

• Disposing of waste (general and clinical), including recycling.

• Helping with infection control by following our in-house procedures and using personal protective equipment when needed.

• Working as part of a wider team to keep the building fresh, clean and welcoming.

How much time should I give?

Completely flexible, whatever you can offer – some volunteers offer time every week, others support on a monthly basis at the end of respite stays, some help quarterly with deep cleans or just occasionally to prepare or clear up around special events in our calendar.

What training and support will I be given?

You will receive induction, training on cleaning procedures, infection control practices and health and safety. You will be supported by the Housekeeping Lead to ensure you feel confident and capable in your role.

No one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this.

We are seeking Event Doctors to respond and manage emergency calls/incidents at events which may include venues such as stadia, concert halls, motorsports tracks, road races etc. Event doctors shall provide specialist, clinical, social and holistic care while undertaking clinical assessment and interventions in the pre-hospital environment. This will mainly involve working in mobile treatment centres or temporary event medical centres

 Successful candidates will be registered registered medical practitioners with the GMC, without cautions or restrictions, and hold a licence to practice outside of an approved practice setting.
