This is an exciting time to join the Housing First team, an innovative and supportive team offering open-ended, flexible, and intensive support to people who face multiple disadvantages. Housing First is an evidenced based model of support that alleviates homeless for people who other models of support may not be able to reach.

About the role

As a Housing First Coach you will deliver high quality person-centred support, using psychologically and trauma informed approaches, in line with Housing First principles. You will establish open and trusting relationships with people who have had long histories of homelessness or in temporary/insecure accommodation, enabling them to access and sustain accommodation and enable them to exercise choice and control over their lives. The team is multi-disciplinary in our approach – coaches, peer support worker, clinical psychologist – which allows us to formulate innovative approaches. The team operates across London, providing numerous opportunities to build effective partnerships and contribute towards systems change.

Location:  Office-base in Tower Hamlets, outreaching London-wide

About you

To be successful in this role you will be a self-starter, flexible and have experience of working collaboratively as part of a team and with internal and external partners. You may have a background in adult safeguarding, drug or alcohol recovery services, mental health or housing support and have significant experience of working within a multidiscipline setting with the ability to create strong professional relationships and creative solutions. You will have experience of working with people who have faced severe and multiple exclusion and who may have complex needs; with an understanding of the needs of people who have been homeless for long periods of time. You will be willing and able to provide practical assistance with moving into and maintaining a home – including direct help where necessary with tasks such as shopping, budgeting, cooking, and cleaning. 

You will also have a knowledge of Housing First and Housing Led approaches and the ability to work within a psychologically informed approach.

New Horizon Youth Centre has been commissioned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) as part of an Alliance with Safer London, St Giles Trust and the Anna Freud Centre to deliver on their Children and Young People’s Violence and Exploitation and Reduction support service. The commission will run from June 2024 for three years. As part of this, an additional service will be set up within the NHYC Youth Justice team specifically to deliver on the Alliance contract. This will include a team of Housing Caseworkers who will carry out assessments and advocacy work with young people under 25 who are fleeing violence and exploitation, in order to move them on successfully into both emergency and long-term housing options. You should be passionate about working with this client group, able to manage a fast-moving caseload, and committed to working collaboratively with a team across multiple services.

Salary: £31,200 - £34,736

The vacancy

Here at Peabody, we have an opportunity for a Team Manager - Young People on a Permanent basis for two new Supported Housing Schemes in Lewisham, due to open in June 2024.

You, as the Team Manager will support a team of housing support workers to support our young customers to remain in their home and take an active part in the community.

Both schemes are part of Peabody's well established Young Persons and Complex Needs service in London and will provide temporary housing for young people who are homeless aged between 16 to 17 years. 

What we’re looking for:

• Are you experienced in providing support as a senior support worker or as a team manager to people who have experienced trauma and have complex and challenging support needs?
• Do you have any previous experience in the housing support sector and a good knowledge of statutory and community services?
• Do you have some experience of managing and motivating a team to deliver a high-quality support service?
• Do you have experience of assessment and management of individual needs and risks?
• Are you able to communicate respectfully with and about people respecting the dignity and diversity of the people you are working with?
• Do you have any experience of working jointly with other agencies and liaising with statutory organisations?
• Do you have a genuine desire to help our young customers connect with their community, demonstrating kindness, empathy, a positive attitude, energy, and enthusiasm?
• Do you have good IT skills to include use of Microsoft office and can maintain electronic records, with attention to detail?

As Team Manager, you will support your team of housing support workers and our young customers living in our supported housing properties.  You and your team will help support our young customers with all aspects of their tenancy, supporting them to be independent, helping them to reach their goals, to flourish and thrive.

A daily lunch service is at the heart of our day-centre delivery for young people experiencing homelessness. For many of our young people, lunch is their only hot, nutritious meal of the day. We are looking for a passionate Chef to work independently in our kitchen to deliver a daily meal for up to 100 young people, staff and volunteers. You will have responsibility for planning, preparing and serving food that makes a real difference to people's lives. You will need to have experience of catering to large numbers and managing professional kitchen paperwork, and the drive to maintain high food hygiene standards. This is a new role for the Circuit, replacing a volunteer. In designing the position, the Circuit has aimed for maximum flexibility to secure the best candidate for the role. Initially, the person will need physically to attend some meetings to familiarise themselves with the Circuit's operations and ensure a smooth hand-over. For the right person, though, there will be considerable flexibility about how the duties are fulfilled in the longer-term. It is specifically expected that the role will allow for flexible scheduling to accommodate other responsibilities, including caring.

The Richmond & Hounslow Circuit comprises seven churches in southwest London. As with all Methodist circuits, these churches function autonomously yet collaborate closely in their ministry and mission efforts. The Circuit oversees joint resources, including staff and property. Presently, it employs four full-time ordained ministers, one full-time lay pastor, and a part-time administrator. As a part of the Methodist Church, its mission is “to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission”. To fulfil this mission, the Circuit fosters a broad spectrum of ministry within its congregations, focusing on worship but also engaging in outreach to the homeless, asylum seekers, new parents, and various other groups. Could you be a Caseworker for vulnerable young people? Could you give them the support and guidance they need to get back on their feet and live independently? 

The young people we work with have become homeless for a number of reasons – isolation or mental health, abusive relationships, substance misuse, involvement in gangs/county lines - their issues are complex so you will need to be able to build strong, trusting relationships so that our customers feel safe and supported.

We are opening two new supported housing schemes in Lambeth, which will be Ofsted registered. Both schemes are part of our well-established Young Persons and Complex Needs service in London and will provide temporary housing for young people aged 16-17 who are experiencing homelessness. 

A bit about the role:

As a Caseworker, you will be working with a team of highly motivated, compassionate, and dedicated colleagues supporting a caseload of young customers with complex needs. You’ll need to meet each customer weekly to help them with their goals and discuss their progress. And, when someone’s ready to move on, we'll rely on you to help them access the housing register or look for suitable rented accommodation.

What we’re looking for:

You may have worked with vulnerable young people in a paid or voluntary capacity, maybe as a Youth Worker or in an education setting providing pastoral care. You’re a great relationship builder, who can create trust so that our young people feel comfortable sharing their issues with you, you listen but in a non-judgemental way and you are able to spot signs for concern and act on them. You’ll also need to be able to work on your own, sometimes dealing with challenging situations and diffusing them to avoid escalation. Is this you?

You will be joining our Philanthropy Team that's responsible for managing relationships with, and securing donations from, mid and major value individuals and trusts & foundations.  The team has recently transitioned to a new team structure with a new set of ambitions and plans, and more formalised support across the organisation, at all levels, to enable the team to deliver.
