Director of Finance & Corporate Services

We are looking for a Director of Finance & Corporate Services to join the senior leadership team at this exciting stage in the charity’s journey.

This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in managing one of London’s most iconic green spaces and supporting the Trust as it delivers an ambitious programme of regeneration, heritage restoration and community-led cultural development.

The Role

As Director of Finance & Corporate Services, you will join the senior leadership team and have overall responsibility for finance, HR, digital, legal, risk and office management. Acting as Company Secretary, you will ensure compliance with Companies House and Charity Commission requirements, while providing robust financial leadership and high-quality advice to trustees, staff and stakeholders.

You will:

• Maintain strong financial controls, oversee budgeting, accounting and reporting.
• Lead on compliance, risk management and company secretarial duties.
• Manage HR and corporate services including recruitment, staff policies, payroll and office management.
• Oversee digital systems and lead special projects such as CRM development and office relocation.
• Line manage finance and administration staff and external suppliers.

About You

We are seeking a qualified and experienced finance professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for working in a charity setting.

You will bring:

• A recognised accounting qualification.
• Experience of charity finance, including SORP, restricted/unrestricted income and small group accounts.
• Experience of managing corporate services (HR, IT, legal, compliance).
• Strong financial systems knowledge (Xero desirable) and advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise colleagues and trustees.

About the role

As an eComm Assistant, you will support the eComm team in the delivery of our ambitious Bricks & Clicks strategy, supporting our 10yr strategy. Team background

The Mental Health Crisis Breathing Space (MHCBS) team at Toynbee Hall is part of a national initiative launched in partnership with We Are Group and The Kaleidoscope Plus Group, funded by the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS). This service provides individuals undergoing mental health crisis treatment with temporary protection from debt collection activities, allowing them a “breathing space” to focus on their recovery without the immediate pressures of financial obligations. Toynbee Hall contributes to this initiative by offering regulated debt advice, conducting renewal checks, and providing comprehensive signposting support, ensuring that clients receive holistic assistance during their crisis period.

Job purpose

As a Debt Advisor (Omni-Channel: Telephone & Video), your primary role will be to provide over-indebted clients with tailored debt advice through various channels, including telephone, WhatsApp, and our network of video advice kiosks located in prisons, hospitals, job centres, town halls, and other community settings. You will help clients start their debt advice journey efficiently, ensuring they receive accurate and effective support.

• To provide over-indebted clients with free, face-to-face advice that is accurate, effective and tailored to individuals’ circumstances

Experience and Skills:

• Hold a valid Money Advice Service accredited qualification in debt advice to level three or higher
• Minimum 2 years f debt advice experience
• Proven record of good quality debt advice
• Provided casework support
• Experience in a client-facing service envirnment
• CMS experience (Advice Pr preferable)
• Strng IT knowledge and familiar with using Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Teams

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• Clear communication skills and a strong command of the English language, oral and written

The People Partner will work closely with managers and teams across the organisation, providing trusted HR advice and practical support throughout the employee lifecycle. The Foundation for International Law for the Environment (FILE) is a not-for-profit philanthropic organisation working to accelerate legal action on climate change. 

Through grant-making and in-house legal expertise, we empower our partners to deliver strategic, innovative legal interventions and we support lawyers in their own countries to bring their own cases. 

Legal action can unlock the systemic changes in finance, policy and social systems needed to protect all of us from climate change. The power of the law is both direct (changing policy and practice) and indirect (signalling the wider shifts taking place across these systems).

Sounds great, what will I be doing?

In this role you will support budgeting, management accounts, service charges, annual accounts, and energy contract management. The role involves assisting in the preparation and review of budgets, ensuring accurate rent setting, supporting managers with financial performance reporting, and maintaining strong financial controls. You will be responsible for preparing cost centre reports, resolving variances, overseeing corrective actions, and posting journals while providing timely support to budget holders and senior management.

In addition, you will play a key role in managing service charge processes, monitoring expenditure, liaising with landlords and managing agents, and meeting tight deadlines for rent increases. The role also covers annual accounts preparation, audit support, and energy contract administration, including bill validation, supplier liaison, and supporting sustainability initiatives. With a focus on continuous improvement, you will contribute to reviewing finance processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting the wider finance team as needed.

We are looking for a part-qualified accountant (ideally studying towards a CCAB qualification or international equivalent) with at least three years' experience in a busy accounts environment. You should have strong knowledge of budgeting, management accounting, and service charge setting, alongside excellent IT skills and proficiency in MS Office.

The ideal candidate will be highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage a high-volume workload under pressure while maintaining strong communication and relationship-building skills. In this busy and exciting supporter-facing role, you’ll provide stewardship to our brilliant fundraisers, organising events from bake sales and balls to tractor runs and sponsored walks. And, alongside the other community fundraiser executives, you’ll be the first point of contact for supporters, playing a key role in the smooth day-to-day running of the programme.
