Job description

Interim Senior HR Manager

Location: London
Working pattern: Hybrid, minimum 2 days per week in the office
Rate: £23.08 - £24.72 per hour
Duration: 3 months initially, with potential to extend
Start: Immediate
Contract: Temporary

We are recruiting for an experienced Interim Senior HR Manager to join a London-based, values-led organisation on an initial 3-month temporary assignment, with the potential to extend.

This is an immediate-start opportunity and candidates must be immediately available or able to start at very short notice.

The role

This is a broad and hands-on senior HR position, working closely with senior leadership and managers to provide strategic HR advice while leading the operational delivery of the HR function.

You will have responsibility across the full employee lifecycle, including employee relations, recruitment, performance management, learning and development, employee engagement, HR policy, compliance, payroll and HR systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Advise senior leadership and managers on strategic and operational HR matters.

  • Support the development and implementation of the organisation's HR strategy.

  • Manage complex employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence and performance cases.

  • Lead employee recruitment, onboarding and retention activities.

  • Support volunteer recruitment and administration.

  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures.

  • Lead performance management and appraisal processes.

  • Support learning, development, training and succession planning.

  • Promote employee wellbeing, engagement, equality, diversity and inclusion.

  • Ensure compliance with UK employment legislation, GDPR and HR best practice.

  • Manage relationships with external payroll and pension providers.

  • Oversee HR systems and ensure employee data is accurate, secure and up to date.

  • Produce HR reports, analysis and management information for senior leadership.

  • Manage HR budgets and supplier relationships.

  • Lead, coach and support the HR Administrator.

  • Contribute to wider organisational projects and strategic initiatives.

About you

You will be an experienced HR professional with a strong generalist background and the confidence to operate at senior level.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Significant experience in a Senior HR Manager, HR Manager or similar senior HR role.

  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.

  • Extensive employee relations experience.

  • Proven experience advising senior leaders and managers.

  • Experience developing and implementing HR policies and processes.

  • Strong experience across recruitment, performance management, L&D and employee engagement.

  • Experience managing HR systems, payroll processes and external suppliers.

  • Strong analytical, reporting and organisational skills.

  • Excellent communication, coaching and influencing skills.

  • CIPD qualification or equivalent professional experience.

Experience within a charity, not-for-profit, public sector or other mission-driven organisation. Experience of volunteer management, safeguarding or supporting geographically dispersed teams would be beneficial.
