The Role
As Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our Abingdon site, ensuring that our Wood Shop, workshop, and facilities turn a profit and run smoothly, safely, and in line with our business plan. You will manage a multi-skilled team across customer service, warehousing, and woodworking, and play a key part in delivering on OWR’s strategic goals - from retail growth to workshop projects to community initiatives.
You’ll work closely with the CEO and play an integral role in leading OWR’s operational performance, culture, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
· Ensure a positive customer experience for everyone accessing OWR services at our Wood Shop, online and over the phone.
· Lead and oversee our Wood Shop and workshop operations, managing retail activity and supporting staff with purchasing and merchandising.
· Develop and maintain business systems to ensure high standards of service, safety, and sustainability across the site.
· Take ownership of Health & Safety policies, procedures, and compliance across the Abingdon site and satellite facilities.
· Provide visible and motivational leadership to operational teams - including customer service, warehouse, and woodwork - promoting team development and high performance.
· Coordinate with the marketing function to grow profitable retail and commercial sales.
· Support and develop workshop-based manufacturing and bespoke wood projects, ensuring delivery, quality, and customer satisfaction.
· Manage facilities at Suffolk Way, and off-site strorage, including building maintenance, utilities, and supplier contracts (supported by the Business Administrator).
· Actively participate in senior team meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
· Work with the Wood to Work team to offer meaningful work experience for job seekers, apprentices, and school volunteers.

Essential skills and experience:
· Significant experience in retail, warehouse or production operations

· Confident with stock control, EPOS/till systems, and financial reporting
· Good IT, numeracy, and written communication skills

Finance
Prepare invoice authorisation and payment process, ensuring invoices and expenses are recorded and approved appropriately, and payments made to suppliers in a timely manner.
Reconcile bank statements, accounting software, and CRM, to ensure accurate income and expenditure records.
Administer the corporate credit card scheme to ensure statements and transactions are approved, reconciled and accurate.
Issue and update membership invoices using CRM.
Manage outstanding debtor balances to ensure timely receipt of cash for ACF’s income.
Respond to member and supplier queries regarding invoices and payments.
Support cashflow management by maintaining a cashflow forecast.
HR
Maintain annual leave and sick leave records.
Support HR manager with onboarding new staff: issuing offer letters, contracts, new starter forms, sending reference requests and arranging IT set up.
Support HR manager with processing staff leavers: managing leaver checklists, issuing leaver letters, requesting the closure of IT accounts.

- Generating people data reports for all levels of the organisation. This includes headcount reports, total reward statements and any other ad hoc reports that are requested.
- Dealing with the queries that come through the shared HR mailbox.

What you will need to succeed
- Ability to prioritise your own workload and completing tasks with a high level of accuracy
- Experience of running payroll process for a similar sized organisation (c400 employees)
- Experience of HR information systems is essential (experience of Cascade HRIS is desirable)
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Word and advanced knowledge of Excel
- CIPD qualified to Level 3 or equivalent relevant experience
- Highly organised and capable of conflicting deadlines

This role is critical in supporting the development of the charity’s learning and development strategy and embedding a knowledge culture at Turn2us by creating and delivering learning programmes and interventions.
This is a fantastic opportunity, as a brand new role, to build a robust training and learning framework to support our staff as by developing equitable and inclusive training to help embed a culture where learning is embedded with equity and inclusion in everything we do.
Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, you will tailor training design and content to meet the specific needs of the business, create engaging content that caters to diverse learning preferences, across groups of varying sizes / seniority levels. You will also aid in the delivery of inductions, support the review of annual appraisal and development planning and conduct regular evaluations to enhance training effectiveness, utilising data to identify areas for improvement where needed.
You will bring experience of training needs analysis and general HR practice, along with experience in developing practical training initiatives which have had a demonstrable effect on both organisational performance and culture. You’ll need strong analytical skills to be able to translate data and trends into strategy and actionable plans.
We offer flexible working patterns, both in terms of hours and remote working. Please note that all employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 4 days a month on a weekly basis.

The Western Forest will deliver landscape scale change and real green investment, connecting people and nature across three regions – Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and the West of England (including North Somerset).
The Western Forest Director will drive, direct and manage the delivery and strategic direction of this new national forest. The Director will inspire and work alongside partners and the core Western Forest team to achieve the goals and targets set for the forest, ensuring it develops sustainable income streams and models of delivery by 2030.
The Western Forest Director will head up the core team in supporting and directing resource and expertise throughout the region. Some key duties include:
- Lead on strategic development and impact.
- Support the shaping and organisational effectiveness of the Western Forest team and partnership, with a focus on collaboration, learning and knowledge sharing.
- Be responsible for the creation and management of relationships with partners and funding bodies working to build and develop existing partnerships and encouraging new ones.
- Develop open, trusting and respectful relationships throughout the governance structure and between the team and Boards.
- Manage and ensure delivery of the programme KPI’s and partnership delivery model.

To meet the needs of this role you will need:
- Demonstrable experience of impactful leadership, working across organisations and a wide range of sectors and stakeholders.
- Experience of advocacy, engaging with external stakeholders to influence social change or public policy.
- Proven track record of securing significant financial resource for an organisation through large funding bids or other sources of income generation, ideally with a good knowledge of the tree and woodland funding sector.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with senior leaders, community groups, and the public.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire and lead diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to plan resources appropriately and understand financial reports including budgets/cashflow management, risk management and forecasting models.

Responsibilities
Training & Development Strategy
- Lead the planning, design, and delivery of engaging and relevant training in line with contractual and organisational requirements.
- Work closely with Service Managers to identify learning needs and skills gaps across teams.
- Develop and maintain content on the Learning Management System (LMS), tailoring courses to meet operational priorities.
- Research and introduce new training initiatives (e.g., apprenticeships, funded programmes) aligned with strategic objectives.
- Design and review development pathways to support growth into new contracts or impact areas.
- Ensure compliance of mandatory training as required by our contract holders.
Performance & Capability
- Oversee the supervision and appraisal framework, ensuring staff receive meaningful, holistic feedback.
- Identify and support upskilling needs for professional growth and organisational performance.
- Support managers with performance management processes, including informal interventions and formal proceedings where necessary.
Training Quality & Evaluation
- Monitor the quality and impact of internal training sessions.
- Ensure trainers are confident and engaging in their delivery.
- Maintain oversight of the training calendar, attendance tracking, and associated admin.
Onboarding & Induction
- Manage and continuously improve the New Starter Induction programme.
- Evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of employee onboarding to ensure a positive and well-supported start.
