SENIOR HR ADVISOR – GENERALIST STAND ALONE ROLE

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Senior HR Advisor to join our team starting, ideally, from early December 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced HR generalist, transitioning to managing an HR standalone function. This is permanent full-time role based in Old Street – London, with occasional travel to our Bristol office.

You will be involved in the whole employee lifecycle, from when candidates apply for a job to when staff leave the organisation. You will also help provide training and development opportunities for employees, and guidance around issues such as performance, career progression, and managing disciplinary issues where they arise.

You will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to the ongoing development of the HR function at Deighton Pierce Glynn (DPG).  The role supports all aspects of HR, including recruitment & development, diversity & inclusion support, promoting positive employee relations and employee wellbeing, salary and benefits; all aspects of HR administration, and maintaining/upgrading the HR System and HR processes to fully utilise automation where it makes sense.  The role will also involve ensuring relevant HR policies and procedures are understood and followed. You will have the opportunity collaborate with the DPG team and the Senior HR Consultant to evolve the HR function, at DPG.  You will also have the chance to undertake HR initiatives that help deliver the DPG People and Culture objectives.

You will have the ability to truly grow and continuously develop within the role as you will be the main HR contact for all HR matters, with support from the Managing Partner, Practice Manager and HR Consultant.

Requirements:

• At least 2 years’ experience as HR Advisor or equivalent, in a generalist role.
• A desire to continue developing your HR experience and growing your career in this area.
• Ideally level 5 CIPD qualified with a desire to continue to professionally develop.
• Able to demonstrate professionalism, discretion and confidentiality at all times.
• Work style is consultative and actively listens to understand differing perspectives and problem solve.
• Strong emotional intelligence, relationship building skills and a genuine desire to help ‘make a difference’ in terms of helping the team to be successful through a fair and consistent approach to developing HR practices that support their growth, motivation and wellbeing.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• A proven track record of refining HR processes and ideas of how to implement AI into HR operations, with strong skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work at pace and multitask in a productive, delivery focused, empathetic and self-motivated way.
• There is no requirement to already have experience of working for a law firm, however we are looking for someone with a keen interest in working for a law firm with a strong ethos of ‘using the law for good’ and promoting civil rights.

Responsibilities:

• Supporting managers with the full recruitment cycle, from ensuring the efficient co-ordination of our recruitment campaigns through to the successful on-boarding of new colleagues
• Reviewing and analysing data and providing bespoke reporting for Senior Leadership Group, People Committee, and the Board.
• Ensuring HR procedures and policies are kept up to date

• Providing early-stage support and operational guidance to prevent escalation of employment related issues, in line with ARB policies and best practice, on a range of HR issues that may arise
• Guiding and supporting the HR Administrator with HR activities as required

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You will have previous HR experience with CIPD level 3 at a minimum, working in a HR Business Partner dynamic with exposure to HR and payroll systems as well a policy development. You must be confident advising on policies, procedures and ER matters with stakeholders; you’ll be organised, able to prioritise your own workload and be proactive. The right candidate should have strong communication skills and be able to develop a trusted relationship with various stakeholders and have a team orientated attitude.

The Role

The HR Administrator will provide essential administrative and coordination support across the charity, ensuring that HR processes run smoothly and efficiently. As a small operational team with limited capacity, we are seeking additional support to ease the administrative workload currently carried by managers and the Finance & HR Manager. The postholder will help ensure staff are onboarded and supported consistently, that key HR tasks are completed on time, and that accurate records and documentation are maintained. Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Interview Administration

• Post job adverts and support recruitment administration, including scheduling interviews and coordinating candidate communications.
• Assist hiring managers with preparing interview materials and ensuring recruitment documents are filed appropriately.
• Carry out pre-employment compliance checks such as right-to-work verification.

Onboarding & Offboarding

• Prepare and issue contracts of employment and set up new starters in the HR portal.
• Calculate and communicate holiday entitlement for new starters.
• Support new employees during onboarding by responding to routine queries and ensuring required information is collected.
• Manage DBS/PVG applications and renewals, ensuring certificates are returned and recorded. Track references
• Support the offboarding process: acknowledge resignations, confirm holiday balances, and ensure all documentation is completed.

HR Administration & Employee Lifecycle Support

• Process changes to staff records including hours changes, contract updates, promotions, or flexible working arrangements.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee information in the HR portal, including absence recording.
• Respond to day-to-day HR queries from staff and managers, signposting to the Finance & HR Manager or external HR support when needed.

Compliance, Training & HR Systems

• Track and record completion of mandatory training (e.g. safeguarding, GDPR, health & safety).
• Ensure digital and paper records comply with GDPR and safeguarding requirements.

Skills and Qualifications

• Experience in an administrative or coordination role, preferably within a busy office or operational environment.
• Exposure to HR processes (such as onboarding, record-keeping, or recruitment admin) OR a willingness to learn and develop HR process knowledge.
• Good understanding of the basic steps involved in HR administration (e.g., issuing contracts, updating records, tracking absence).

The Purpose of the Role

The HR Operations Manager has oversight of IRC UK’s onboarding processes, HR data, payroll, and wellbeing initiatives for approximately 200 UK-based staff.

The role exists to:
•  Lead Operational Delivery: Drive the implementation of the UK People & Culture (P&C) workplan, collaborating closely with European and global colleagues.

The First Contact Team is a dynamic one-stop service that transforms the way patients and referral agencies access the Hospice’s services. An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Administrator to join the First Contact Team.
