Galop is the UK's LGBT+ anti-abuse charity (est. 1982). We support thousands experiencing domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and conversion therapies. Person-centred, empowerment-based, trauma-informed. We drive policy change and legislative reform for LGBT+ victims.

The Role

Provide specialist domestic abuse advocacy to LGBT+ survivors at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as part of Safe Horizons London Partnership. Work independently within the hospital, supervised by Galop, delivering advocacy, risk assessment, safety planning, and improving access to specialist support.

You Will

• Manage a caseload of LGBT+ survivors experiencing domestic abuse
• Deliver trauma-informed, survivor-led advocacy and safety planning
• Complete DASH assessments and support MARAC referrals
• Work with NHS safeguarding teams whilst maintaining independence
• Support access to housing, criminal justice, health and specialist services
• Respond promptly to referrals and prioritise high-risk cases
• Build relationships with clinicians to improve referral pathways
• Deliver training on LGBT+ domestic abuse
• Maintain accurate case records

About You

Passionate about improving LGBT+ survivors' lives. Work autonomously in healthcare, building strong relationships with clinicians and safeguarding practitioners. Combine excellent professional judgement with trauma-informed, survivor-led advocacy. Organised, resilient, committed. Good self-care essential. Training and support provided — you don't need to be an expert.

Essential

• Experience supporting domestic abuse/gender-based violence survivors
• Understanding of LGBT+ survivors' barriers to mainstream services
• Advocacy or case management experience
• Safeguarding knowledge and DASH risk assessment experience

• MARAC and IDVA processes understanding

Refuge is recruiting an Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate (IDVA) to join our Enhanced Support Outreach Team, focusing on supporting clients living in Merton.

The IDVA will provide high quality, trauma-informed independent advocacy and support to survivors of domestic abuse who y face multiple disadvantages in accessing support service across Merton. Funded by MOPAC (the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime), this post focuses on improving access to justice, safety and holistic support to individuals affected by domestic abuse, including those navigating the criminal justice system. 

Working as part of a community-based service, the IDVA will deliver support through outreach, co-locations and partnership working across a range of settings in Merton to ensure survivors can access support in ways and locations that are safe, accessible, and responsive to their individual needs.

We are looking for someone who is passionate, committed and cares about the work Refuge undertakes. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of domestic abuse and the impact this has on survivors and their children. They will be able to work under pressure to effectively manage risk and provide needs-led support to clients with a variety of support needs.

Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) for Brazilian communities

Part Time | 18.75 hours per week

Aymara London CIC is seeking a passionate and committed Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to join our growing specialist domestic abuse team.

As a lived experience led organisation, we provide culturally competent, trauma informed and survivor centred support to women from migrant and racially minoritised communities affected by violence against women and girls. As part of the Safe Horizons London Partnership, funded by MOPAC and led by Victim Support, we deliver specialist advocacy and support for women from Latin American communities across London.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting survivors of domestic abuse to improve their safety, wellbeing and access to justice.

About the role

You will provide high quality advocacy, risk management and practical support to women experiencing domestic abuse. You will work closely with survivors to develop safety plans, navigate complex systems and access housing, legal, health and other specialist services.

You will represent survivors within multi agency settings including MARAC, build strong partnerships with statutory and voluntary sector organisations and contribute to community engagement and prevention activities.

• Experience supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse or other forms of violence against women and girls

The Role

As an IDVA you will:-

• Ensure that male survivors’ safety and housing needs are met by supporting survivors to access safe accommodation
• Provide a pro-active, high quality, frontline service to victims of domestic abuse through on-going risk assessment, individual safety planning, advocacy, emotional and practical support.
• Work within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse to keep safety central to all services for victims of domestic abuse
• Promote the service and raising awareness of issues arising, minimising barriers and improving access to support

About You

You will need:

• Experience of providing support those affected by domestic abuse
• An understanding of the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of domestic abuse and their children
• Knowledge of safeguarding issues, and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues.
• A good understanding of Housing Law to be able to provide up to date advice and information on housing related needs
• Strong communication, negotiation and advisory skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals.
• An understanding of commitment to equal opportunities and diversity issues in policy and practice.
• Strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations.
