Why Access Social Care Exists

Everyday millions of older and disabled people are denied the social care they need. Most local authorities can’t meet the growing demand for care, none are confident they can meet their legal duties in the future. This affects all of us, we will all need social care at some point.

We all have a right to hold public bodies to account. But most of us cannot afford lawyers so rely on legal aid. The 77% drop in community care legal aid cases since 2010 means we have nowhere to turn. Without access to justice, our rights do not exist. The rule of law is broken.

What we do

Access Social Care provides free legal advice and information for people with social care needs, helping achieve a better quality of life. We work with communities to increase knowledge of the law and our rights. We highlight the gap left by cuts to Legal Aid and provide advice for those who can’t afford it.

With a 98% success rate, our network of lawyers and barristers ensure fair access to justice when things go wrong. We collaborate with social services whilst ensuring legal obligations are met. We are working towards a future where social care is adequately funded, and we all get the support we need.

About the role

This is an exciting time to join our organisation. We have a new strategy and are growing quickly including across our senior leadership team. We have nearly tripled in size and income since we started operating in April 2020 and we anticipate that this strong growth will continue for the duration of our next strategic period. Access Social Care are an organisation of thirty-six people, and this is a new role in the People team coming at a period of growth to drive a thriving charity and help shape its future.

This is a fast-paced role whose emphasis is on policy / process / systems improvement as well as advising colleagues and managers across the organisation regarding all aspects of the employee lifecycle. You will work with people at all levels of the organisation supporting the People Director on strategy work streams as the organisation continues to grow and evolve.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all day-to-day HR processes within the employee lifecycle to ensure staff are supported appropriately and legislative responsibilities are fulfilled
• Work alongside the People Director to map or review processes across the employee lifecycle, identify blockers and seek to implement solutions that create efficiency and clarity 
• Advise on employee relations and discuss complex or sensitive cases with the People Director to decide the best course of action, ensuring that cases are resolved in a timely manner or be a trusted advisor to our managers with their people challenges
• Coordinate the delivery of projects, process and policy improvements as defined and prioritised within the People Plan, leading on workstreams as outlined by the People Director
• Support the People Director in sourcing training and learning solutions, and evaluating training
• Provide practical upskilling and training to managers and employees in HR practices and policy
• Coordinate recruitment efforts at Access Social Care, ensuring compliance with employment laws and providing guidance to managers. Manage the recruitment cycle and administration process from job ads to onboarding
• Support staff engagement activities across Access Social Care in conjunction with the People Director. These may include but are not limited to the following initiatives: staff survey coordination, and wellbeing events
• To be a super user and actively promote the use of the HRIS system (Bright HR) and ensure that electronic staffing records are updated and maintained accurately in accordance with GDPR
• Dealing with cyclical and ad-hoc data reporting and requests for information including data analysis
• Contribute to effective payroll administration ensuing information is shared with the Finance Officer in a timely manner, and collaborating with the People Director to address and rectify any issues and process improvements
• Work within the parameters of GDPR, ensuring data and information is protected and handled correctly
• Support the People Director as required in any duties which you could be reasonably expected to perform in line with this job description

Key Responsibilities: 

1. To lead on running our employability training and Alumni Job Club.

2. To develop workshop structures and learning materials for these in close collaboration with the Development Director and ensure that participant feedback from earlier programmes is incorporated.

3. To line manage Development Job Coaches as needed.

4. To manage and deliver job search sessions.

5. To lease with Employability Lead when participants are ready to move over in In Work Support team.

6. To advertise project opportunities to autistic people throughout London and manage project recruitment and onboarding.

7. To ensure processes are in-place for each project to:- assess each participant’s individual skills and gather baseline data; ensure job matches are appropriate to the individual’s needs and aspirations; and that targets set are relevant and promote new skills and learning; acquire and complete necessary risk assessments to ensure safety of clients, staff and partners.

8. To oversee the set up and settling in of jobseekers into work placements, when needed. Providing support and training to employers where required; providing personalised on the job training to participants and employers as required and develop strategies and advise on reasonable adjustments.

9. To coach, train and help manage new project staff to support jobseekers and put in place monitoring protocols.

10.  To ensure jobseekers are progressing towards their individual targets; understand protocols and interpret work culture correctly; understand the health & safety in the work environment and adopt appropriate workplace behaviour.

11.  To ensure good working relationships are maintained with all employers/ work experience placements and that feedback is regularly sort from all stakeholders to help improve our service delivery and future opportunities.

12.  As a key member of the Development Team to work closely with the Development Director to actively, engage with employers and external organisations to promote CareTrade and our job seekers and to pursue opportunities to work collaboratively.

13.  To attend events, to market CareTrade to autistic jobseekers and to liaise with Disability Employment Advisors at JobCentre Plus, Disability Services teams, Social Workers and others to promote and support employment opportunities as needed.

14.  To organise and promote social groups for jobseekers.

15.  To collect data and use data analysis to help produce reports, internally, for funders and partners.

16.   To help seek and apply for appropriate awards and grants when required.

17.  To be a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)  and First Aider and complete regular training working alongside the Development Director to ensure the safety of participants and staff.

18.  To complete relevant health and safety training and be a named fire marshal.

• Supporting volunteer and older people applicants in your region through the onboarding process.  
• Leading online group volunteer inductions, checking references, and conducting ID checks.  
• Conducting informal calls with older people applicants, ensuring that our services meet their needs.  
• Collaborating with colleagues to identify applicants for volunteer roles or older people referrals.  
• You’ll also be part of the team which responds to phone and email enquiries and that provides high quality support to older people and volunteers.

Overview of the Role

As a Welfare Benefits Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in assisting individuals in making benefit claims and accessing the support they need. You will join a busy team that supports thousands of disabled people and carers across the borough and specifically provide a bespoke home visiting service to our most vulnerable clients.

1. Benefit Claims Assistance:

Climate Change Adaptation Officer

As the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sixth assessment report laid out in March 2023, we are now on the brink of irrevocable damage from climate change; this is our ‘final warning’ and the time is now for action to address this crisis.

The report highlighted that restoring nature was one of the key actions needed to address this issue. Somerset Wildlife Trust are at the forefront of this work in Somerset and are fully committed to this path through our Wilder Somerset 2030 Strategy and to delivering a vision whereby we reverse biodiversity loss and tackle the climate crisis.

Developing and further embedding the ‘Act to Adapt’ process, through our ‘Adapting Somerset’ and ‘Somerset’s Wilder Coast’ projects to support communities and to develop plans to adapt their local areas to the impacts of climate change.

Responsibility 1: Providing leadership and technical expertise

Being proactive and nurture strong relationships by:

• Providing leadership on SWT Climate Change Nature Adaptation work.
• Working closely with the Local Nature Partnership Coordinator and Advocacy Manager, and wider project team from partner organisations, to develop and deliver a programme of online and in-person communications, meetings and workshops. This is designed to foster climate change adaptation in the county supporting nature’s recovery and community resilience, and therefore involves working closely with farmers and landowners, all layers of local council, infrastructure experts, academics and the general public, including communities already impacted by flooding.
• Providing line management to the Climate Adaptation Assistant.
• Continuing developing the RAD approach for priority habitats, alongside the Landscape Recovery team, which will contribute to managing land within internationally important wetlands.
• Keeping abreast of national and international climate change developments and relate these to Somerset.

Responsibility 2: Engagement with Communities and Creating Robust Partnerships

Lead engagement efforts by:

• Contributing to discussions and workstreams developing climate change adaptation pathways at a county level, and in specific local areas relating to flooding, drought and wildfire.
• Developing information for a lay audience regarding the role of nature in reducing the impacts of climate change, including: sea-level rise; predicted changes in land use; warming, etc. and to help people understand what the future may bring especially in Somerset’s more vulnerable nature habitats.
• Supporting people’s wider understanding of the role of nature to mitigate climate change through carbon sequestration and storage.
• Continuing the rollout of the Act to Adapt process in local communities, organising events and workshops and using the Climate Adaptation Toolkit to explain the process of developing community and nature based solutions to the big issues of climate change.

Responsibility 3: Developing sustainable projects and evaluation

Lead and support projects and reporting by:

• Working with the Somerset Local Nature Recovery Strategy team to incorporate climate adaptation and vulnerability principles to these priorities.
• Assisting with work to share information and project developments with project partners in the UK.
• Developing and implement a communications plan that raises awareness of the project and its impact; garners support; and highlights Somerset as a place at the frontline for climate change. This will include engagement through social media and the production of awareness materials in printed and online formats.
• Managing the budget of the Adapting Somerset project and keep track of time contributions to the ELM’s Landscape Recovery and Somerset’s Wilder Coast projects.
• Monitoring and evaluating progress and impact, meeting project milestones and reporting to funders.
• Representing SWT externally in meetings, in the media and by giving presentations to various audiences.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND PURPOSE OF THE POST

The Finance and Resources Team is responsible for responsible for HI’s finances, general services and HR in the UK. It comprises the Chief Finance and Operating Officer, a Finance Officer and an Accounting Officer.

The main purpose of this post is:

• To ensure smooth and efficient running of the HI UK office, including office services, IT, internal communications and health & safety
• To act as a key point of contact within the organisation and externally

• To provide administrative support to the Chief Executive, Leadership Team and Board of Trustees

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations

• Maintain the office facilities and environment to agreed service levels
• Act as primary point of contact with the landlord and all suppliers for the office space, proactively dealing with arising issues
• Be responsible for the operation and maintenance of office equipment and IT equipment for all staff and volunteers, and arrange their repair or replacement, in conjunction with the Finance Officer and the Accounting Officer, as need arises
• Act as principal contact person for HI UK’s IT infrastructure and support provider, helping colleagues to access IT support when required and developing and implementing the organisation’s IT strategy
• Manage budget lines associated with running of the office and participate in procurement, primarily of office and IT supplies, liaising with external suppliers.
• Act as designated Health & Safety Officer for the office, including ensuring Health & Safety policies are up to date and being adhered to
• Continually review systems in place within the office, make improvements where required, and communicate these to relevant people

Human Resources

• Provide administrative support and advice for the recruitment of staff, consultants and volunteers, including advertising, interviews, issue of contracts and inductions, liaising with the federation manager and recruitment teams when relevant
• Assist with other HR tasks, including managing staff and volunteer files, managing the HR information system, administrative support for payroll and contributing to updates of the staff handbook

Reporting directly to the Chair of the Board of Trustees and with the support of Head of Developments, the CEO will lead the management of the organisation, drive its strategic development and, together with the Board, secure the future success of the organisation.

We’re the Portman Group, the UK’s self-regulatory body for alcohol marketing and we are looking for someone to provide advice and training to the alcohol industry on our marketing rules.  We have two Codes of Practice: the Naming, Packaging and Promotion of Alcoholic Drinks and the Alcohol Sponsorship Code.  Each Code outlines a set of responsible marketing rules that the alcohol industry must abide by.  Our primary purpose as a regulator is to protect those who are vulnerable, particularly those who are under-18.

No previous experience of working in the alcohol industry or marketing regulation is necessary as full training will be provided.

Our office is based in Borough High Street and we currently work Tuesday/Wednesday in the office, with Monday, Thursday and Friday working from home.  The nature of this role means that you will sometimes have to travel to deliver a training session in person which you can schedule within your work hours.  With the shift to hybrid working, a large amount of our training is delivered virtually online.

Details of role

· Deliver training and briefing sessions on the Codes and on alcohol social responsibility. This includes delivering sessions virtually and in person within the UK.

· Responsible for responding accurately and promptly to written requests for advice on product marketing from producers and their agencies alongside other members of the Regulatory Affairs Team.

· To raise standards of responsibility in the industry by undertaking proactive trademark searches of newly registered products and providing unsolicited advice where necessary.

· With the support of the team, provide internal and external reporting analysis of advice requests on a monthly basis.

· Monitor product innovations via social media and press publications to identify emerging trends and provide unsolicited advice where necessary.

· Support the team in drafting blogs, newsletters, industry advice pieces and an annual Regulatory Affairs Report.

· Support the team in wider regulatory communications, including distribution of content.

· To support the Regulatory Affairs team more widely by:

o Attending industry events;

o Assisting with the recruitment of new Code Signatories;

o Providing project support as required.

· To be flexibly deployed on any other work as required by the Director of Regulatory Affairs or Chief Executive, taking into account the needs of a small organisation.

Skills, knowledge and experience:

1. Proven experience of presenting, delivering presentations or public speaking to varying levels of stakeholders, this can include teaching;

2. A personable and engaging presenting style;

3. Ability to make sound and consistent judgements;

4. Excellent written and oral communications skills to convey these judgements, with the ability to write clearly, accurately, concisely and appropriately to all correspondents;

5. A persuasive, authoritative manner with the ability to remain calm;

6. Excellent administrative skills and high standards of personal organisation;

7. Competence in use of Microsoft Office;

8. Ability to work on own initiative and be self-motivated as well as enthusiasm for being a team player in a very small organisation with a big mission.

We do this through grant support, direct delivery, research and advocacy.

This role is a great opportunity to play an important part in creating and facilitating Outdoor Learning experiences in Cumbria.

The Role

Being an Outdoor Learning Officer involves collaborating with schools to integrate Outdoor Learning into their curricula and provide opportunities for children and young people to have positive experiences in natural environments, focusing on underserved groups and those most in need of support. You will be responsible for the planning and delivery of our schools offer to ensure the success of Outdoor Learning programmes in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

Programme Delivery and Collaboration:

•  Develop a bespoke Outdoor Learning offer to schools as part of our Foundations for Outdoor Learning and/or Enriching Education programmes, considering various factors such as location, catchment area, size and type of groups, use of resources and landscape.
• Plan and deliver Outdoor Learning sessions for eligible schools, on school grounds, in local green spaces and at Low Beckside Farm, devising activities and developing appropriate learning resources for each session and agreed outcome.
• Support the delivery of sessions at Low Beckside Farm for groups attending as part of their OWL (Outdoor Week of Learning) residential.
• Work with schools and teachers for effective delivery of programmes.
• Contribute to impact assessments through data collection, observations, and evaluation paperwork.
• Comply with all risk assessments, Health & Safety policies and safeguarding considerations.
• Build a network among schools, aligning their needs with the Trust’s programmes.
• Coordinate with other Outdoor Learning Officers for collaboration with each other and local networks.

Development and Promotion:

• Support the development of our site at Low Beckside Farm as a venue for high-quality school learning. 
• Assist Learning Operations Lead in establishing and maintaining key relationships and projects and promoting Outdoor Learning programmes by attending relevant events.
• Contribute to the development of the Trust through engagement with grantees/beneficiaries in Cumbria and facilitation of the Outdoor Practitioners’ Education Network (OPEN) meetings, and explore opportunities for collaborative efforts.
• Participate in the development of learning policies and procedures, including risk assessments, Health & Safety protocols, training needs, and safeguarding.

Person Specification:

• Teaching qualification or equivalent experience.

Our Schools Programmes offer long-term support to the schools who need this most. We do not charge for our service and are constantly working to break down barriers to participation in Outdoor Learning.

 We offer a targeted programme of support, individually designed for each school, based on a needs analysis and conversations with staff. This will follow one of two pathways:

Foundations for Outdoor Learning
This programme is a comprehensive, long-term support package for schools wanting to embed Outdoor Learning into their curriculum and practice. Support may include teacher CPD, mentoring, and advice on how to optimise use of your school grounds. We do this on your school site, with some supported visits to local green spaces and our own learning locations.

Enriching Education
This programme uses The Ernest Cook Trust’s own learning locations - woodlands, farms, rivers and other natural landscapes - together with our Outdoor Learning leaders to support a school’s Outdoor Learning provision. This may be a school’s first experience of Outdoor Learning, or it may enhance and extend existing programmes. Either way, we aim to inspire all participants to spend more time
outdoors.

Job Purpose: To develop and manage, to a high standard, Age UK Bromley & Greenwich’s Information and Advice Service. To be responsible for the effective delivery of the I&A Service which will be delivered through a range of channels, including face to face, telephone, email, digital, and other means, across the Bromley and Greenwich boroughs.

Key Responsibilities:

Line management and supervision

• Provide line management and supervision to advisers and support staff.
• Supervising team advice sessions and casework
• Manage the practicalities of the advice session and ensure adequate staffing and resources.
• Undertake monthly supervision with individual team members and annual appraisal.
• Ensure referrals are actioned and clients are supported in a timely manner.

• Develop effective partner relationships with referral agencies across  both boroughs, and to refer/ signpost cases to external agencies as appropriate.
