About the Role:
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will support the smooth running of finance operations within the charity. This includes processing income and expenditure, managing the purchase ledger, preparing BACS payments, assisting with payroll, supporting month-end reconciliations, and contributing to audits and governance activities. The role

The welfare rights adviser will report to the welfare rights supervisor.

The welfare rights adviser  will be supporting people affected by long term health issues with financial challenges, supporting with benefit and housing advice, and referring on for further support where appropriate. 

Experience as a welfare rights adviser, including managing your own casework, is essential when applying for this role.

Principal accountabilities / responsibilities: -

Welfare rights advice and casework

· To provide welfare rights advice and casework for people affected by long-term health conditions, including inpatients, outpatients, and carers.

· To work at least two days per week on site, mainly based at the Royal Free Hospital or the Royal Free Charity office

· To provide advice and support primarily on welfare benefits and housing matters (that do not require a solicitor).

· To check whether clients are in receipt of all the benefits they are entitled to and help them claim relevant benefits.

· To help clients understand benefit decisions and challenge them (where appropriate) by way of mandatory reconsiderations and appeals.

· To help clients ensure they keep to their responsibilities in respect of their benefit claims, for example by notifying any relevant changes of circumstances.

· To refer or signpost clients to other agencies or departments as appropriate, e.g., housing solicitors; community care cases involving social services and NHS duties, FCA-regulated debt and immigration services.

· To signpost or refer to other services that might be valuable to a client such as condition specific charities, mental health support, or offerings in the local community that would improve their health and wellbeing.

· As part of this role, there may be some advice given to NHS staff.

· There may also be some involvement in new advice projects

· There will also be some triaging new referrals as part of this role

The support hub department is here to support people affected by long term health conditions (patients and carers), to help them with the practicalities of living with a chronic condition; to improve wellbeing and quality of life.

About this role

Over the past two years, SPANA has made significant investments in Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), culminating in the establishment of an independent MEAL team within the Global Programmes Directorate. The role contributes to the design and implementation of MEAL frameworks that effectively measure the organisation’s impact on the health and welfare of working animals. In addition, the MEAL Manager promotes innovative approaches to data use, supports evidence-based learning and line manages the Data Insights Officer.

Contract, location and salary

This is a full-time (34.5 hours per week), permanent role. This role is UK based, hybrid working with regular attendance (approximately 1-2 days per month, or more if preferred) in our London office. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK currently and for the duration of the contract. 

The salary for this position is c.£45,000 per annum, subject to skills and experience. SPANA is pleased to offer a range of benefits including a generous company pension scheme with 10% employer contribution if the employee contributes a minimum 5%, and health care cash plan.

NAPAC (the National Association for People Abused in Childhood) is entering an important period of growth. Our income sources are diversifying, our public profile is rising and our operations are becoming more complex. With new earned income streams, additional grant funding, VAT considerations and more detailed Board reporting, we are now strengthening our finance function to ensure accuracy, clarity and confidence in all financial matters.

We are therefore seeking a freelance finance professional to provide part-time, ongoing operational finance support. The role involves managing our monthly financial bookkeeping and reporting functions, working closely with our Chief Operating Officer and wider team. Our current provider will continue to handle payroll and year-end audit preparation, but we are moving our day-to-day finance support to this new model.

Our client is a leading London-based charity looking to recruit an interim Finance Business Partner on a 3–6-month contract. This is an opportunity to make a real impact within an organisation that’s changing lives across the UK.

The Role

As Finance Business Partner, you’ll play a key role in driving financial performance, providing strategic insight, and helping senior stakeholders make well-informed decisions. You’ll act as the bridge between finance and the wider organization, ensuring that financial information is clear, meaningful, and aligned to the charity’s goals.

Key responsibilities include:

· Building strong relationships with departmental leads and programme managers.

· Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and longer-term financial planning.

· Providing insightful analysis to guide decision-making and resource allocation.

· Preparing management accounts with clear, actionable commentary.

· Helping drive value for money and efficiency across programmes and operations.

· Supporting business cases, funding bids, and donor reporting where needed.

· Contributing to process improvement and system enhancements.

About You

You’ll be ideally a qualified (or part qualified) accountant who enjoys partnering with the business and translating complex financial data into clear, engaging insight. You’ll bring strong analytical ability, sound judgement, and a collaborative approach.

Criteria to be successful:

· ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification (or equivalent).

· Must have experience in the charity or not-for-profit sector.

· Proven experience in a Finance Business Partner or Management Accountant role.

· Excellent communication and influencing skills.

· Strong Excel and reporting system capability.
