OPERATIONS AND FINANCE OFFICER, POLITICAL STUDIES ASSOCIATION (PSA)
Contract type: Fixed-Term (initial 12-months, potential for extension)
Hours: Part-time, up to 30 hours per week (0.8 FTE). We are open to these being flexibly worked over the week.
Location: Camden, London (Hybrid working - 1 or 2 days in the office per week)
Salary: £32,000 pro rata, £25,600 per annum
Are you ready to play a vital role at the heart of the Political Studies Association (PSA)?
We’re looking for a proactive and organised Operations and Finance Officer to join our small but dynamic team. This is a varied, hands-on role providing day-to-day support across finance, operations, HR, and governance. You’ll work closely with our Head of Operations & Finance and CEO to help keep everything running smoothly.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in, or a strong interest in developing finance and digital administration skills. We welcome applicants with a solid background in operations or administration who are keen to grow their knowledge of finance systems, bookkeeping, and compliance in a supportive, mission-driven environment.
In this vital post, you’ll take the lead on day-to-day operational administration, including office management, managing payments and maintaining accurate records in systems like Xero.
You’ll also:
- Support HR administration and payroll processes
- Manage office contractors and supplies
- Provide excellent service to our tenants and shared workspace users
- Ensure good data management and GDPR compliance
- Assist the CEO and Head of Operations & Finance with admin and logistics
- Contribute to PSA operations and adapt flexibly to changing priorities
We support flexible working arrangements, but the ability to work from our Camden office when required, including on our regular team day (Wednesday) is essential.

Our operating income for 2025-2026 is £230,000. Our ambition is to generate an income of over £1 million by 2027-2028, growing to a 15+ staff team.
How the COO will support our vision
The role of Chief Operating Officer is central to helping us achieve our ambitions, ensuring that Wild in the City has the resources, infrastructure and working environment to achieve its annual plans, long term aims and deliver high-quality programmes.
We are not expecting the COO to implement the key areas of operations alone, we will work together to prioritise and generate the resources to build a team to cover the functionality required for steady growth. We are also motivated to ensure that the role’s salary is reviewed to meet market expectations as the role grows, dependent on funding.
This role needs an exceptional candidate who enjoys making a role their own, who is motivated by turning strategy into impactful action and who finds fulfilment in supporting others to achieve.
The COO will ensure that;
- We secure ongoing, long term financial resources, creating stability and underpinning growth, and scaling into operations in multiple regions, nationally
- We grow our staffing to provide a steady infrastructure and achieve our strategic objectives, including creating operations, fundraising, communications and research teams, and increasing our field team.
- We retain our relational, open, authentic, personable, dynamic, collaborative, innovative culture as we grow.

We are looking for a dynamic and dependable Chief Operating Officer (COO) to help realise our vision.
We’re seeking an emotionally intelligent, commercially competent, and values-driven leader who can bring clarity, stability, and energy in a fast-paced and mission-led environment. You will thrive in turning strategy into action and impact, and in driving Wild in the City forward in scaling our delivery and leadership on a national scale.
You will bring:
- Proven experience in operational and strategic leadership
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, including income generation, budgeting, and long-term planning
- A successful track record of managing people, partnerships, and multi-disciplinary teams
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across staff, volunteers, partners, and board members
- Emotional resilience, sound judgement, and a calm, authentic presence

The role of Health and Safety Advisor will be to review, monitor and advise on Health and Safety (H&S) processes, policies, risk assessments and safe working practices across the charity.
The successful candidate will report to the charity’s Risk Manager, but be expected to work closely with other teams, in particular the Estates and Facilities, and Operations teams.
A recognised Health and Safety Qualification (e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent) is essential for this role.
Overall objectives:
- To be the subject matter expert for staff, volunteers, visitors and contractors dealing with health and safety issues across all three sites.
- Write high quality practical guidance and policies for H&S at Battersea.
- Embed H&S policies and processes across Battersea.
- Help train and educate managers and team leaders in their H&S responsibilities.
- Develop and sign-off H&S risk assessments where appropriate.
- Work closely with the H&S Officer in the Estates and Facilities Team.
