The role
With support from our Marketing and Communications Manager and wider team, you will play a vital role by creating, managing and optimising our digital communications, including the development, execution and measurement of email mailshots and campaigns, our social media channels and our website.
You will be comfortable planning and devising email and social media content ideas, designing creative assets, writing sharp, engaging social media copy, and helping colleagues to grow their own social media presence.

Your experience

Overview:
Spires supports homeless and vulnerably housed people in South London. Spires has undergone a period of rapid transformation, moving to a model of multi-site working across three London Boroughs. Our core services include, day centre style drop ins for homeless people, a Women’s drop in, a Refugee drop in and outreach targeted at supporting Women who are sex working.
The Head of Fundraising and Communications will be joining the organisation at an exciting time. Recent successful funding outcomes provide a short period of relative funding stability and an opportunity for the post holder to develop our communications and community fundraising strategies.
Part 1: Job profile
1.1 Purpose of job
To generate income from a diverse funding pool that includes trusts and foundations, legacy and individual giving, community giving, government contracts and corporate support. Trusts and foundations remain the primary funding source for Spires so maintaining consistent application output is a core element of the role.
Oversee Spires’ external relations and public profile. The post holder will be responsible for all communications and will look for areas to increase the organisations profile.
Work with Spires CEO and the Head of Client Services to ensure that data and outcomes are being effectively captured in a way that is helpful for evidencing impact.
1.2 Position in organisation
The post holder joins Spires’ Senior Leadership Team and will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The post holder will join the finance, fundraising and risk subcommittee which includes members of the board of trustees.
The post holder will manage the Communications and Community Engagement Lead who currently leads on community fundraising, social media and volunteer recruitment.

Part 4: Summary of terms and conditions of service
Location: The postholder will be an employee of The Spires Centre. This post is based at 2nd Floor, Elmfield House, 5 Stockwell Mews, SW9 9GX This role will by hybrid with three days in the office and two days from home.
Probation: This post is subject to a 6 month probationary period.
Notice: This post is subject to an 12 weeks’ notice period once confirmed in post.

About the Role
This role is focuses on delivering established communications strategies and plans over a 12-month fixed-term period. There is scope for the Communications Officer to work autonomously and creatively across teams, helping deliver engaging content and campaigns. Key responsibilities include:

About the role
As PA & Events Assistant you will:

Manage diaries and inboxes for Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members, scheduling meetings, appointments, and ensuring timely responses to correspondence.

Coordinate travel arrangements, prepare meeting agendas, and take minutes as required.

Oversee general organisational inboxes (e.g., info@), ensuring prompt and appropriate responses or delegations.

Maintain organised records of communications on our CRM and follow-up actions.

Manage guest lists for all events, including invitations, RSVPs, and attendee communications.

Own and update action trackers for key events, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule.

Liaise with event suppliers and coordinate logistics to ensure successful event delivery.

Support the maintenance of our volunteer database and for events ensure volunteers are engaged and recognized for their contributions.

Recruit and coordinate volunteers for events.

Organise and manage internal social events and initiatives, such as staff socials and the buddy system.

About you

Our expectations for this new role are high.
We are looking for an individual who will ensure that the effective day-to-day operations and communications of London CLT run smoothly. Providing vital support across administration, governance, HR and project delivery, acting as a central point of contact for London CLT and taking ownership of our communications strategy, developing an annual communications plan and producing well-targeted, engaging content and communications for members and other priority audiences.
You will bring strong experience in operations, office management, administration and communications, ideally in the non-profit or social enterprise sector, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, and feel confident with IT and Office systems.
It would also be helpful and advantageous if you have experience working with community-led organisations, an understanding of social justice and community development principles or bring lived experience of housing challenges or connection to communities affected by the housing crisis.

A few practical things:
- This role is hybrid, involving a mixture of working from home and from our Central London office.
- There will be some limited additional requirements to travel for meetings and occasional expectations to work outside of office hours, such as our annual in person Staff Conference and quarterly evening ‘get togethers’ online with volunteers.
- This role is the equivalent of 3 days per week, however we are flexible to accommodate the regular working hours that work for you, between 9am-5.30pm Monday to Friday.
- Giving our volunteers the best possible experience involves really understanding what they do- so you will be actively encouraged to get stuck in and ‘volunteer’ yourself within our programmes and alongside our volunteers.
