About the role

The Centre for Ageing Better is looking for a talented Deputy Director to lead on work, retirement and transitions. Overseeing a programme of research, policy development, influencing activity and a growing employer network you will be leading our work to ensure equitable access to decent work for those aged 50+.

We are looking for someone with a good understanding of the UK labour market policy and the implications and opportunities for those aged 50+. You will be skilled at developing strategy and leading a multi-disciplinary team to translate it into an impactful programme of work. You will be comfortable working externally to build relationships and make the case for change to policy makers, potential funders and in the media, and you will bring research expertise and experience of developing and delivering research projects using a variety of methods.

Essential criteria:

Your new role
The Human Resources Division supports all people management activities across the school and is committed to delivering high-quality and customer-focused services. Reporting to the Director, HR Policy and Employee Relations, this post is responsible for maintaining existing HR policies and contributing to the development of new policy in consultation with a wide range of HR colleagues and stakeholders across the School.
This role also supports the development and implementation of key employee engagement and wellbeing projects. This includes playing an important role in developing and implementing initiatives and actions that emerge from staff feedback and annual benchmark reports. The post-holder will present a positive and efficient image of the Human Resources Division, working collaboratively with colleagues inside and outside the Division in order to deliver high-quality solutions that contribute towards the School's strategic agenda.Key responsibilities will include:

Policy Development:

• To stay informed of new legislative developments and ensure that appropriate revisions to HR policy are made accordingly, as well as working with the Director, HR Policy and Employee Relations to ensure that the wider HR Division is aware of the changes.
• To undertake appropriate policy benchmarking across the sector and with other leading organisations (both public and private).
• To support in ensuring that the university has a set of up-to-date and appropriate HR / employment policies and that these are accessible to staff and line managers, maintaining a regular programme of monitoring, review and improvement.

• To take on the role of Data Lead for the HR Policy Team, supporting with developing the reporting and analytics roadmap, refining the data model to enable better use of available data and providing feedback on data quality issues.To liaise with the Information and Systems team, and other relevant colleagues as required, to produce timely and accurate management information to support project and development work within the team.
• To plan, organise and communicate the school's annual flu vaccination clinics, liaising with external and internal stakeholders, to ensure that this runs effectively.
• To complete annual benchmarking reports, developing and implementing action plans based on feedback.

What you'll need to succeed

• Previous experience of working in a large HR department supporting a complex and diverse organisation
• Can demonstrate a sound knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR good practice, with experience of advising colleagues and managers on HR policy and procedure
• Experience of developing or contributing to HR policies across a range of topics
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Experience of servicing committees and/or organising events
• Experience of producing accurate minutes and/or meeting notes
• Ability to communicate in a diplomatic, tactful and courteous manner with a wide variety of people, at all levels, in the most appropriate format
• Excellent written skills i.e. ability to produce clear and professional policy, procedure and guidance documents
• Ability to exercise discretion and deal professionally with confidential and/or politically sensitive information
• Evidence of effectively understanding large amounts of moderately complex information and compiling succinct summaries
• The ability to undertake research from a wide range of sources, using a range of techniques to gather and analyse relevant information.
• Previous experience within the Higher Education sector would be an advantage.

Field Studies Council Epping Forest is situated in the heart of Epping Forest, an area of around 2,400 hectares of wood-pasture stretching from Manor Park in East London to just north of Epping in Essex.

Two thirds of the Forest have been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). In this role, you'll foster an empowered culture within cross-functional teams, building a collective sense of shared ownership of end-to-end outcomes, while maintaining oversight of the entire delivery process and its role in MFE-wide operations and outcomes.

What will I be doing?

• Driving continued growth of CRUK audiences and supporters by proactively managing the delivery of the Giving Platforms programme with implementation plans, working collaboratively and cross-functionally across MFE and beyond, within the allocated budget

• Ensuring that agile cross-functional teams deliver against shared audiences, volume, value, contribution and other objectives, by effectively managing activities, while empowering team members to make decisions

• Collaborating with MFE Proposition teams to develop understanding of their audience needs and income objectives, and supporting them to achieve this by implementing tests and initiatives that leverage opportunities on third party and CRUK owned giving platforms

• Driving a culture of end-to-end delivery, building excellent working relationships, and ensuring a collective understanding of the Giving Platforms programme

• Ensuring that standards are set and upheld for proposition squad processes and culture - including frequent touchpoints and communication cross-functionally, in conjunction with the Senior Programme Manager, Programme Community of Practice and any external benchmarking of best practice in our sector

• Ensuring sound resource allocation plans, proposition briefs and business cases are developed

• Facilitating group activity e.g. proposition squad or working group, including cross-functional decision making, dependency, risk, and issue mediation

• Effectively and efficiently coordinating any changes to the implementation plan, using tools such as service blueprints, working in collaboration with Internal stakeholders, to ensure than any amendments are driving the product/proposition towards the desired outcome

• Working with the Senior Manager (Giving Platforms) and Programme Community of Practice to establish appropriate governance frameworks

• Working with external stakeholders, such as third-party fundraising platforms to meet CRUK in year and long-term goals

What skills are we looking for?

• Experience of project management principles and methodologies - aligned to the need of the programme and best practices

• Proven ability to manage complex projects involving multiple stakeholders either within a charitable or commercial environment

• Strong facilitation skills, including the ability to effectively manage cross-functional teams and meetings to deliver the required outcome within the time allocated

About the Role

The Project Officer will join the US Death Penalty Project at Reprieve, working on Reprieve’s innovative Stop Lethal Injection Project operating at Reprieve’s Lethal Injection Information Center. Length and Salary

This is a full-time role, on a one-year fixed term contract, to cover parental leave. The annual salary is £42,193 per annum, less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance. 

This role is based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work two days per week from the London office and the rest of the week from home. Applicants must have the current right to work in the UK, which will be checked prior to interview.

Your presence is important during core office hours, whether remotely or in the office. You will also be available outside of office hours in the event of an emergency, for example case developments that require urgent action. This is a role that may require travel and work outside of core office hours from time to time.
