The Role

The TCEN Communications and Commonwealth Campaign Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping The Commonwealth Equality Network’s advocacy and communications agenda over the next five years. The postholder will shepherd the development of the Network’s five-year advocacy strategy, ensuring it is participatory, evidence-based, and reflective of member priorities.

They will also be responsible for supporting development and delivery of a coherent campaign and communications strategy for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026 — ensuring that member’s voices are heard, and their impact amplified.

This is a newly created role which is part of a recharged Business Development Directorate aimed at developing a range of potential income streams and building a sustainable income model, reducing the dependency on statutory income. 

Background information

The Director of Business Development is primarily focussed on growing commercial opportunities and engaging at a strategic partnership and corporate level. The Head of Fundraising and Communications will boost the capacity and leadership of the team to develop voluntary fundraising, lead on smaller corporate partnerships, develop grants and trusts income, create and deliver headline grabbing campaigns that appeal to the wider public thereby developing an individual giving function and lead on organisational communications, including fundraising comms. You will be supported by a Communications Assistant who has a good knowledge of the charity and Fundraising Assistant. The latter post is currently vacant and, it is hoped,  the Head of Fundraising will be involved in the recruitment. There is a strong pipeline of innovative projects which will create compelling cases for support with which to fundraise. The assets are in place, it just takes an exceptional fundraiser to capitalise on opportunities. 

Job description 

Education

• A relevant professional qualification at SCQF Level 9 or above or equivalent knowledge acquired by other means.

Experience

• Experience in both fundraising (multiple and sustainable income streams) and communications(fundraising and organisation-wide), with evidence of developing strategy and delivery as well as management and leadership of these areas.

• Proven success in securing  income through a range of income channels including grants and trusts, partnerships, running campaigns, and raising profile.

• Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on activity delivery.

• A track record of planning and delivering successful multiple and sustainable initiatives at a local and national level.

• Excellent writing, storytelling, and communication skills across multiple channels.

• Experience of working with and supporting senior leaders (e.g. comms, media engagement).

• Strong organisational skills, able to juggle multiple projects with limited resources.

• Line management experience and ability to support junior staff in development.

• Experience  of developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy managing both internal communications and external engagement, ensuring a unified voice across all platforms. This includes ensuring the Communications strategy supports Penumbra’s strategic goals, including service promotion, policy influence, fundraising, and brand awareness.

• Experience of managing projects from inception to completion.

• Sourcing and sharing powerful stories from service users, staff, and volunteers, using personal experiences to demonstrate the impact of Penumbra’s work and humanise mental health issues.

• Acting as Penumbra’s lead for media relations, securing press coverage and responding to media enquiries in a timely, professional manner. This includes developing relationships with key journalists, mental health advocates, and influencers to increase Penumbra’s profile. Leading on the creation and delivery of public-facing campaigns to raise awareness of mental health challenges and reduce stigma, including high-profile events like Mental Health Awareness Week.

Knowledge

• Understanding of the voluntary sector, fundraising regulatory frameworks, communications and policy context and partnership agendas.

• Oversee content creation across digital platforms, press releases, speeches, and internal communications.

• Develop and oversee brand guidelines, ensuring all internal and external materials are on-brand and adhere to the highest standards of quality.

• Distribute press releases, statements, and opinion pieces that showcase Penumbra’s expertise and impact on mental health in Scotland.

• Design and implement multi-channel fundraising campaigns targeting major donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and community partners.

• Knowledge of fundraising regulations, data protection and financial compliance.

Executive and Finance Officer

We’re looking for a proactive and highly organised Executive and Finance Officer to play a vital role in the operations of Centre for Mental Health.

This varied and interesting role supports our CEO and Board, managing day-to-day operations and taking on key finance and HR responsibilities. This will include financial support: reconciling accounts, processing invoices, supporting our Board by organising meetings and helping with many aspects of recruitment, onboarding and assisting our staff team. SUMMARY OF ROLE

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications, the Senior Strategic Communications Manager is a pivotal new senior role within the team. You will lead the planning, coordination and strategic oversight of RABI’s national communications, campaign planning, media relations and content production, working with the Senior Digital Communications Manager to develop and deliver a bold new internal and external communications strategy for RABI.

With direct line-management of the PR & Marketing Manager and Events & Engagement Manager, this role combines strategic vision with operational leadership to ensure RABI’s marketing, communications, and presence at shows and corporate events is effective, aligned and impactful. You will work closely with the Head of Marketing and Communications to translate organisational priorities into successful campaigns and provide strategic guidance on messaging, brand positioning, external affairs and delivering impactful community engagement initiatives and events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Marketing and Communications, Campaigns and Engagement

• Lead the development and implementation of a new integrated communications strategy that amplifies RABI’s brand and maximises reach and impact across multiple channels.
• Develop tailored media campaign frameworks that align with the charity’s strategic goals, with a strong focus on outcome-driven audience engagement and clear calls to action.
• Ensure all communications – from reactive press statements to flagship campaigns – are underpinned by consistent messaging, high production values and meaningful audience insight.

Press, Media and External Relations

• Oversee all aspects of press and media engagement, serving as a senior advisor on tone, narrative, and positioning, providing clear direction for the PR and Marketing Manager.
• Advise on RABI’s strategic network of media contacts, influencers and industry voices, ensuring RABI is front of mind for journalists across agriculture, rural affairs, health and policy sectors.

Publications, Content and Branding

• Take strategic ownership of RABI’s publication portfolio, including annual reports / reviews, and newsletters whilst developing new opportunities to engage with our audience.
• Oversee content planning, commissioning and production cycles, ensuring publications reflect the organisation’s voice, values and strategic ambitions.
• Manage external contributors, designers and editors to deliver high-quality and engaging materials on time and on brand.
• Manage the relationship with RABI’s external branding partners.

Thought Leadership, Awards and Profile Building

• Help to position RABI as a thought leader by working with colleagues to identify key moments, themes and sector platforms for visibility and influence.

Leadership and Development

• Line-manage the PR & Marketing Manager, and Events & Engagement Manager roles, providing strategic oversight, mentoring and direction to ensure delivery of high-impact work.
• Foster a high-performing team culture focused on collaboration, learning, innovation and accountability.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

• A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a related field.
• A minimum of 8–10 years’ experience in communications, public relations, or external affairs, with at least 3 years in a senior strategic leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience of successfully delivering complex, multi-channel campaigns across press, digital, and event-led platforms.
• Proven line-management experience, including oversight of senior team members and external contractors or agencies.
• Experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing large-scale external events or national campaigns.

The role of Personal Assistant (PA) is a key opportunity to work alongside and support the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and the Board of Trustees (BoT) as they lead Church Army forward. The SLT comprises the CEO and three Executive Directors with multiple demands on their time and multiple responsibilities so a PA who can help them work efficiently and effectively is really important. The PA is a trusted and valued colleague who can assist the SLT maximise the impact of their time.

To perform well in this role, you need to be someone who has excellent interpersonal skills and able to engage confidently and effectively with a range of people. The PA works closely with the SLT and will be handling confidential information, so the role requires someone who understands the importance of confidentiality, works with discretion, and always acts professionally. You will need excellent organisation skills and consider what information the SLT need to make the best use of each meeting and event. You should be able to manage busy diaries and multiple projects and tasks have a flexible approach prioritising and responding to requests as they present.

This role sits within our Co.Lab team which refers to the team of people whose roles have an operational focus on facilitating the work of CA across the UK and Ireland. The team come together at regular times over the year to develop connection, collaboration and community to help us better serve the wider Church Army community. Therefore, you will get to be part of a team that works hard and is passionate about making a difference.

What the job involves

We're on the lookout for a motivated Direct Marketing professional to bring their skills to our Individual Giving Team, with a focus on retention campaigns.

Direct Marketing plays an important role in the Charity’s fundraising and overall corporate strategy. We’re looking for a confident and proactive fundraiser to take responsibility for the delivery and ongoing development of our current retention programme.

You’ll deliver timely, targeted, relevant communications to our warm audiences; newly recruited and existing cash supporters and regular givers with the aim of strengthening loyalty and increasing their lifetime value.

With internal and external stakeholders, you’ll project manage existing direct marketing campaigns in the form of direct mail appeals, emails, telemarketing and occasional stewardship events. You’ll consistently analyse KPIs and make evidence-based decisions to help assist with growing the programme and delivering our overall financial target.

What we want from you

Aside from excellent knowledge and experience of working in a direct marketing environment, which includes developing and implementing retention focused direct marketing campaigns, you’ll also have a range of channel experience and marketing knowledge.

You’ll possess first class communication skills, a strong team ethic and you’ll be at ease working with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. The ability to manage budgets and projects is also essential, along with proven knowledge of data protection and sector compliance. Knowledge of direct marking and fundraising law would be advantageous.
