Volunteer Opportunity – Marketing and Communications Lead

Lyonic Scots Society

The Lyonic Scots Society is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and strategic Marketing and Communications Lead to help raise awareness of our organisation, grow our membership, engage our community, and share the story of the Lyonic Scots with audiences around the world.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the public voice of a growing cultural society and micronation, helping to build a strong and recognisable brand while promoting Scottish heritage, community, and service.

As Marketing and Communications Lead, you will play a key role in helping the Lyonic Scots Society attract new members, volunteers, supporters, and partners while ensuring our communications reflect our values and vision.

About the Role

The Marketing and Communications Lead is responsible for developing and coordinating the Society’s marketing, communications, and public engagement activities.

Working closely with the Chair, Committee members, and volunteers, you will help create compelling content, manage communication channels, and strengthen the visibility of the Lyonic Scots Society both nationally and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

1. Marketing and Promotion

  • Develop and implement marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Promote the Society’s activities, events, projects, and initiatives.
  • Help increase awareness of the Lyonic Scots Society and its mission.
  • Support membership and volunteer recruitment campaigns.
  • Identify opportunities to expand our reach and engagement.

2. Communications

  • Create engaging content for newsletters, websites, blogs, and social media.
  • Help ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
  • Draft announcements, press releases, and promotional materials.
  • Support internal communications with members and volunteers.
  • Help tell the stories of our community and celebrate achievements.

3. Social Media Management

  • Coordinate the Society’s social media presence.
  • Develop content plans and posting schedules.
  • Create engaging posts, graphics, and campaigns.
  • Monitor engagement and respond to enquiries where appropriate.
  • Help grow online audiences and community interaction.

4. Brand Development

  • Support the development and protection of the Lyonic Scots Society brand.
  • Ensure communications reflect our values, identity, and heritage.
  • Work with designers and content creators to maintain consistent branding.
  • Help develop promotional resources and marketing materials.

5. Public Relations and Outreach

  • Build relationships with community groups, cultural organisations, and media outlets.
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships and collaboration.
  • Support public awareness campaigns and events.
  • Help position the Society as a respected voice in Scottish heritage and community engagement.

We Are Looking For Someone Who Has

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for storytelling.
  • Experience or interest in marketing, communications, public relations, social media, or branding.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • A passion for community building and cultural heritage.

Experience in marketing, communications, journalism, content creation, social media management, public relations, or digital marketing would be beneficial but is not essential.
