The role:

The Housing Coordinator (Supported Housing) leads PBHA’s Housing Team to provide a quality housing management service to tenants with additional tenancy sustainment needs. They will provide day to day supervision to other members of the Housing Team. The post holder will work from local offices, with access to PBHA’s main office in Haggerston where appropriate, however some of the work will be in tenants’ homes in the community. The post holder will be issued the IT equipment necessary to facilitate mobile working.

Aims of the post

The Housing team provide work with vulnerable tenants, helping them to sustain their tenancy and participate in their community. The Housing Coordinator (Supported Housing) carries a small caseload, whilst managing a team of Housing Officers.

Specific Responsibilities

Staff Resources

• Supervising staff and volunteers in line with PBHA policies and procedures.

• Completing annual appraisals, sickness absence reviews and performance management.

• Representing PBHA at internal and external meetings as agreed with the Housing Services Manager.

• Ensuring quality service delivery via staff supervision and auditing.

Tenancy Sustainment

• To be responsible for working with a small caseload of tenants within a locality.

• Identifying individual tenancy needs through assessment and an identified Housing Plan which details risks, needs and move on plans.

• Regular contact with tenants as per plan.

• Provide a weekly housing management drop in at PBHA’s hubs.

• Ensure that tenants apply for benefits where eligible, and signpost tenants to information on how to maximise income.

• Record and monitor any breaches of tenancy agreement and work proactively and within procedures to resolve them.

• Liaise with the ASB lead, Income Officer, the Finance and Enterprises and Training departments to provide effective prevention and management of rent arrears, escalating where necessary in accordance with policy and procedure.

• Liaise with colleagues to ensure void targets are met and properties are let within agreed timescales.

• Arrange viewings and carry out sign ups of occupancy agreements and assist in the moving in/out process.

• Ensure tenants understand their rights and responsibilities in their occupancy agreements.

• Deal with complaints, nuisance and tenancy disputes as they arise.

• Work with tenants to promote self-help and mediation approaches to dispute resolution and address and escalate in line with procedure.

• Carry out regular building inspections, helping tenants to report repairs.

• Take pride in PBHA’s property and assets and encourage tenants to do so.

• Enforce the conditions of tenancy that enable PBHA to undertake urgent works such as gas servicing.

• Carry out H&S and fire checks and assessment, liaising closely with others to ensure that follow up actions are completed.

• Report safeguarding concerns as appropriate.

Team Responsibilities

• Be part of the Operational Leadership Team

Customer focused services

• Lead your team in promoting participation and co-production opportunities so that tenants/participants have maximum influence over the development of PBHA.

• Participate in a rota to provide cover for emergency situations outside of regular working hours. The Rota is additional to the 37.5-hour work week.

• Adhere to lone-working procedures.

• To positively respond to, promote and signpost tenants and participants to report complaints in line with PBHA’s practice.

• To have a collaborative and co-operative approach towards resolving complaints, working with colleagues across teams and departments.

• To take collective responsibility for any shortfalls identified through complaints rather than blaming others.

• To act within the Professional Standards for engaging with complaints as set by the Chartered Institute of Housing.

General Responsibilities

Access Information 

The post is based at our Hubs. The Kingsland Hub site has one level and is accessible to wheelchair users. Clissold and Isledon Hubs have step-only access. The role involves travel within Hackney and Islington and working in tenants’ homes.

Main Conditions of Service

This is a full-time position. The post is for 37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week, Monday – Friday, 7.5 hours per day. Duties will occasionally be carried out over evenings and some public holidays.

Overtime is not paid but in line with Agile working, hours can be averaged out over a 2-week period.

Annual leave entitlement is 26 days per year plus normal bank holidays pro rata (inclusive of bank holidays). This will rise after each completed year of service to a maximum of 30 days.

Salaries are revised each year. The starting salary for this post is £35,692 (SCP 18 – 22). We will usually appoint at the start of the scale.

The post holder will be auto enrolled to be a member of the organisation's contributory pension scheme if eligible.

In common with all posts at PBHA, confirmation of appointment is subject to a probationary period (6 months).

About this key role

Global Generation is looking for a Youth Programmes and Outreach Coordinator who is passionate about engaging young people and local communities in reaching their full potential and creating positive social and environmental change. In this role, you will co-lead on the outreach and engagement of local communities, especially with a focus on involving and recruiting young people, as well as planning and facilitation of land-based, cooking and creative workshops. You will particularly focus on working with communities in Islington as we increase our engagement initiatives towards the co-build of our permanent community garden in King’s Cross (which sits on the Islington side), due to start this summer.

Working from educational and biodiverse garden spaces such as the Story Garden and Floating Garden in King’s Cross (with a permanent community garden to be built over the next 2 years in KX) and the Paper Garden in Canada Water, we combine activities such as urban food growing, carpentry, making, cooking, and healthy eating with dialogue, storytelling, creative writing, performance and art, silence and stillness. These practices help us to create the conditions for people to come together in a fuller and more connected sense of who they are and what they are a part of and, from that space, to practically and creatively contribute to ecological and social change. 

Young people have always been and continue to be at the heart of our work. We aim to support them to develop and lead, offering progression opportunities to move from being participants to being action researchers, co-facilitators and ambassadors, to being paid fellows, staff and trustees.

This role is primarily based at the Story Garden and Floating Garden in King’s Cross (and eventually on the new garden we will be building) and working with our Islington community. You will work closely with the education & community programmes team, gardeners, chefs, volunteers and young people, running hands-on and reflective sessions for people of all ages.
 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

The two main areas of the role are:

1. Outreach, engagement and recruitment

• Lead on the recruitment and engagement of young people throughout the year, primarily through schools, colleges, community groups, local referral agencies, and local network meetings and events

• Develop a diverse range of engaging outreach / recruitment materials, including social media content for the purposes of showcasing our work and inspiring other young people to join

• Create and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of audiences, including young people, parents, local community groups and businesses

• Inspire young people to participate via assemblies, talks, outreach workshops and follow up phone calls

• Assist young people and their parents through the sign-up process from initial expression of interest to joining our programmes, through being in regular contact in the ways that work best for young people

• Retention of young people through active engagement in person and phone calls and/or texts prior to each session

• Attend local forums, actively participate in networks of local organisations, and build relationships with organisations and local people to engage them in the co-build of the new permanent garden

2. Programme Planning, Coordination and Facilitation

• Work closely with the Youth Programmes team in planning, facilitating and evaluating sessions with young people

• Inspire and support young people to lead on their own socially and environmentally impactful projects in the local area

• Work alongside the wider Global Generation teams (kitchen, garden, natural build) and in partnership with other local organisations and businesses to enhance the opportunities available to young people

• Document and evaluate the youth programmes you are working on using creative means through a wide range of approaches, incorporating quantitative and qualitative data

• Report to funders in a range of formats depending on what is needed

• The programmes you will coordinate and co-facilitate are:

• Friday Night Out: Fortnightly after-school cooking programme (4:00-6:30pm), engaging children (8-12 year olds) in discovering the joys of seed to plate, seasonal and sustainable food, growing, harvesting and cooking their own produce. You will work alongside one of our chefs so do not need to be a chef, though an interest in sustainable food and gardening experience is desirable

• Generator programme: Regular after-school workshops and experiences for young people aged 13+,  incorporating a range of approaches and hands-on and reflective activities to support the holistic development of young people and encourage them to take social and environmental action in their communities

• Partnership with Heatherwick Studio as part of a collaborative Young Inspirers programme, linking local school children with opportunities in their studio

You will also work with the Youth & Community Team to plan and deliver community / intergenerational events and experiences that bring people of different ages together.

What we are looking for

As the Youth Programmes and Outreach Coordinator, you will be outgoing and love working and reaching out to people across backgrounds and sectors; you will be ready to take initiative, have a flexible attitude, be able to think on your feet and enjoy finding solutions when faced with challenges and change.  You will be able to communicate your passion for Global Generation’s work, the natural environment and social justice to others, particularly young people, in a creative and engaging way, responding to where people are at, and adapting your approach based on this. You will have prior experience of working with schools and finding ways to make the offer relevant to the priorities and needs of young people.

You will readily pick up the phone, follow up on emails sent, visit other organisations and schools, and offer activities in spaces where people are at.  You will love to work deeply with young people over a long period of time, finding out what engages them, building on their interests and finding ways wherever possible for them to grow, progress and lead within Global Generation and beyond.

You will have experience of actively seeking out partnerships to make our offer even more compelling, beneficial and holistic for the young people.  You will have strong project management and coordination skills, as well as planning and facilitating year long programmes, building in different ways of knowing and creative approaches so as to reach a cross-section of young people, adapting to different abilities and needs. 

Ideally you will have experience and a love of urban gardening and/or food growing and engaging people in getting their hands in the soil. You will also have an interest in action research and/or participatory approaches to learning, acting and reflecting.

New Horizon Youth Centre has been commissioned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) as part of an Alliance with Safer London, St Giles Trust and the Anna Freud Centre to deliver on their Children and Young People’s Violence and Exploitation and Reduction support service. The commission will run from June 2024 for three years. As part of this, an additional service will be set up within the NHYC Youth Justice team specifically to deliver on the Alliance contract. This will include a team of Housing Caseworkers who will carry out assessments and advocacy work with young people under 25 who are fleeing violence and exploitation, in order to move them on successfully into both emergency and long-term housing options. You should be passionate about working with this client group, able to manage a fast-moving caseload, and committed to working collaboratively with a team across multiple services.

The Marylebone Project is one of the largest women’s hostels in the UK for women affected by homelessness. Those we support are often affected by substance misuse, unemployment, domestic violence, and mental health issues. Hours

New Horizon provides a range of Youth Work opportunities for young people experiencing homelessness. One stream of work is our Jobs, Education and Training (JET) team. The JET team support with young people to support them into meaningful and appropriate employment, training opportunities, apprenticeships, volunteering, and education.

Our Nightlight Service is proud to provide urgent support, crisis intervention and emotional support to people experiencing a mental health crisis in Hertfordshire as an alternative to statutory pathways.

We provide support to adults across Hertfordshire 7 days a week, 365 days a year through our helpline, crisis centres, crisis cafes and a weekend Crisis House. We aim to provide a safe space for people in crisis to talk and feel supported, be listened to without judgement, access relevant support with problem solving and facilitate access to external services when necessary.

Service Objectives

The objectives of Hertfordshire Mind Network’s (HMN) Nightlight Crisis services are:

• To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing a mental health crisis in Hertfordshire
• To increase early access to help for people experiencing a mental health crisis in Hertfordshire, by providing a clear and effective pathway to services provided by HMN and other third sector and statutory providers.
• To contribute to an improvement in an individual’s mental wellbeing.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• To provide an alternative pathway to people in distress and crisis, to support better outcomes and reduce the demand on statutory crisis services and emergency services.

About the Role:

The Mental Health A&E Link worker will work closely with individuals in a mental health crisis currently in A&E, by using a person-centred approach to ensure that everyone is supported with dignity and respect.

Key Responsibilities

• To provide a consistent presence in A&E for individuals with mental health needs to access, as well as partner agencies, including A&E staff, integrated discharge teams, mental health liaison teams, CGL, Bounce Back, to refer into.
• To facilitate a clear and easily accessible pathway into the wider Nightlight Crisis Alternative services for individuals, to support timely A&E discharge, as an alternative to statutory crisis intervention, or as a supplement to wider care and treatment plans.
• To provide immediate information and advice about managing wellbeing, reducing risk and onward signposting and referral into wider HMN services and VCFSE organisations.
• To undertake assessments of needs and risk, devising crisis and risk management plans, and liaising with services, to facilitate referrals daily.
• To develop sound and extensive knowledge of local resources to support in enabling appropriate referrals where necessary.
• To promote and raise the profile of Nightlight and other HMN services within the hospital to ensure greater community awareness of crisis alternative provision.
• To participate in daily check in meetings with Nightlight at 17:45 and 21:00 through Microsoft Teams, communicating appropriately and sharing information with staff following assessment and onward referral into the service.
• To develop relationships across both Bounce Back and Nightlight teams
• To ensure that a collaborative approach is used, with effective communication links developed with external professional NHS services and to work as an effective member of any multi-disciplinary team. This will require stringent relationships.
• To record accurately and timely tasks done; utilising our client management system to capture the outputs and outcomes achieved, to monitor service impact.
• To represent Herts Mind Network at external meetings, and network locally to develop contacts, services and raise Herts Mind Network’s profile.
• To encourage a culture of continuous performance improvement at both an individual and service level.
• To build a service that is flexible and adaptable to changing requirements.
• To work in partnership with Mind in West Essex and Mind in Mid Herts to ensure that the crisis alternatives pathway model is consistent across the Hertfordshire and West Essex ICS.
• To participate in training and development opportunities as agreed with your line manager necessary for the role and/or your own development as part of an agreed personal development plan.
• To contribute to reviewing the effectiveness of appropriate crisis interventions for all service users, including but not limited to, contributing to the co-development of the service by supporting service user, family, and carer involvement by obtaining feedback and supporting where necessary chances to be involved in wider service reviews.
• To act as a positive role model showing professional and caring attitudes and behaviour towards other team members, service users and carers.
