We are currently recruiting for a Senior Social Worker to be based in our office in Pontefract to lead the service delivery within the Yorkshire and North East region, managing a team of office based and home based Social Work Assistants providing advice and support to former miners and their dependents.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong social work background with experience of managing a team in a social care setting and supporting older people and / or people with disabilities.

As Senior Social Worker, you will:

• Lead and manage the team to provide a high quality, professional, outcomes focused service for our client group.
• Manage a small caseload of clients when necessary, including carrying out high quality assessments and providing a range of appropriate interventions based on the needs of the clients.
• Act as the safeguarding lead for the region, supporting team members to take appropriate action as required.
• Drive service performance and improvement and ensure the effective management of casework across the team.
• Manage the delivery of a range of interventions including welfare benefits advice, mobility support, social isolation, and financial issues.
• Promote the service locally and develop partnerships with other agencies to ensure an integrated and multidisciplinary approach.

The essential qualities, skills and experience you will need to apply for this role:

• A degree in social work or equivalent social work qualification and current professional registration
• Experience of community based social care services with experience of delivery with older people and / or disability services
• Experience of leading / managing a team with the ability to manage & effectively prioritise caseloads

KEY CRITERIA

What we are looking for:

• Previous experience in a similar role with similar responsibilities, this includes a track record of securing new bids and/or retaining existing contracts
• Previous experience in bid/proposal writing, reviewing, and editing
• IT Proficiency, ability to learn new software programs, experience in Microsoft, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability and willingness to travel and attend market engagement events and to visit services to gain greater understanding of what SIG offers and to inform teams of relevant tender responses
• Ability to create and write engaging content, with proofreading skills
• Proven ability to prioritise and juggle multiple tasks and competing priorities within a fast-paced environment

About the role

Alongside the Service Manager, you are responsible and accountable for monitoring, maintaining and providing the highest standards of clinical and personal support and service delivery, while promoting independence and choice to the people supported in the service. You will support the Service Manager to manage and ensure the delivery of the service’s key quality and safety priorities by holding delegated responsibility in key areas of the day-to-day running of the supported living activity/service. You will also have delegated responsibility for the direct supervision and line management of a team of Support Workers. As a senior member of the team, you will promote and lead good practice at all times, doing all you can to make sure that the people we support and their colleagues come to no harm and that the people we support are satisfied with the level of support they receive by acting as an
exemplary role model.

As a Deputy Service Manager, flexibility is important for both you and for the service. You will be required to do on-call shifts during out of office hours. You will be expected to work 20% of your total weekly hours on shift across your assigned services and will be able to role model all aspects of a support worker role duties and responsibilities. The Meridian One Community Garden serves as a space where we focus on cultivating fruit, salad, and vegetable produce. We involve the local community by hosting weekly volunteer gardening sessions, welcoming school visits, and organising various community events.

TCV is seeking a Senior Project Officer with expertise in community engagement, event coordination, and managing community facilities. The garden, which was established one year ago, encompasses facilities such as an office, a community meeting/education room, toilets, and a spacious polytunnel.

The Senior Project Officer will oversee a range of tasks including planning and executing community events, maintaining site Health & Safety, leading volunteers in practical projects like building wooden planters, tending to garden plants, and ensuring timely completion of administrative duties such as procurement, risk assessments, social media updates, and task reporting. They will also lead activities for the under 5’s Nature Explorers group, school visits, themed evening events, and family weekends. Additionally, they'll organise corporate volunteering sessions and cover holiday shifts for the Green Gym gardening program. Previous events have included 'Pampering and Enrichment,' 'Repurpose, Recycle, Reinvent' workshops, and a Black Women in Conservation and Horticulture photo exhibition, as well as our weekend family events featuring free food, music, and arts and crafts activities.

This role involves being friendly and open to various people who visit, from the toddlers attending the Nature Explorers club, to our volunteer gardeners, to senior staff from the local authority. There are two other people working part-time at the garden, and TCV provides thorough training and support from a helpful local team.

Ideally, we’re looking for someone with experience of gardening and/or nature conservation. However, what’s equally important is that the Senior Project Officer has initiative, is welcoming, and comfortable working with a wide range people. We’d therefore welcome applications from candidates who can display those personable qualities, with perhaps experience of working in a community centre setting.

In Spring 2024, TCV will be taking on the management of an additional nearby meanwhile space. The new Senior Project Officer will join us at an exciting time when we begin to turn that space into a new community tree nursery. Working with local people to gather seeds from significant trees in the surrounding area, we aim to grow saplings which will go on to be distributed for planting around London.

Working hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Given the nature of the role the Senior Project Officer will need to work from the garden during these times. Occasionally, to avoid lone working in the absence of another colleague, there will be the opportunity to work from home. Weekend family events take place on Saturdays, four times a year and there are approximately six evening events which take place between April to September. This post holder would be expected to attend those evening and weekend events.
