The role

Maudsley Charity is entering a new chapter of growth and renewal. We are strengthening our governance, welcoming new trustees, and establishing a Finance, Audit and Development Committee to underpin our ambitions. We are evolving our operating model to ensure we remain agile and effective as we scale our impact.

Following a period of interim leadership in this role, we are now seeking a permanent Director of Finance and Operations who will play a pivotal role in shaping this next phase.

This is a role of considerable breadth and strategic influence. The Director of Finance and Operations will lead our financial strategy, oversee our investment approach, including social and impact investing and manage our property portfolio. The role will also explore innovative funding models and commercial opportunities, ensuring we have the resources and resilience to deliver our mission. Alongside this, it will lead core operational functions; HR, IT, Facilities and drive digital transformation to strengthen our infrastructure for the future.

Prisoners Abroad is a unique welfare and human rights charity providing advice and emotional support to people affected by overseas imprisonment. We help people during their incarceration, when they return to the UK and need resettlement services, and we also support their family and friends throughout the trauma.

In this role, you will provide crucial advice to British embassies, consulates and country caseworkers at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) on human rights issues affecting British nationals abroad, including claims of torture and cases where a British national could be or has been sentenced to death. You will also support Prisoners Abroad’s caseworkers with advice and information on individual cases, ensuring a holistic approach is taken to supporting people jointly, and provide training on Human Rights topics as needed.

An outstanding communicator with an in-depth, comprehensive practical knowledge of human rights law (particularly relating to fair trials and prisoner rights), you must hold a legal degree and a formal qualification in human rights.

The Faculty of Public Health is recruiting an Events Coordinator.

The key duties of the Financial Controller will be as follows:

• Lead on the preparation of year-end financial reporting across the group
• Support the preparation of Depaul UK Trustees report and lead on the annual statutory audit process
• Develop and maintain a full set of financial policies and procedures which support the charity to deliver its aims
• Review and streamline controls and processes, including greater automation/ integration with other business systems
• Act as a finance subject matter expert, providing accounting advice to the team and wider organisation
• Prepare monthly management accounts for Depaul Housing Services
• Ensure the interests of the function are represented at internal committees
• Supervise the processing of all financial transactions and payroll, ensuring adequate documentary support, correct coding and appropriate authorisation
• Ensure month end timetable is adhered to, making sure that all bank and control account reconciliations have been carried out
• Ensure all income and expenditure is appropriately analysed and restricted and designated funds are correctly accounted for

The successful candidate will have:

• A full, recognised accounting qualification, or be in the final stages
• Ideally, a background working in the charity or social housing sectors, but this is by no means essential
• Demonstrable experience working in a strong internal control environment and driving effective month and/or year-end routines
• The ability to lead and develop a high performing team
• Excellent relationship management skills, and the ability to work within a cross-functional Leadership Team to continuously improve the service

Talking Money is an independent charity providing free, expert money advice across Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Our purpose, from a client’s perspective, is:

We work holistically and person-centred, supporting people facing debt, poverty, rising living costs, poor housing and mental ill-health. Demand for our services continues to rise.

The opportunity

This newly created Fundraising Manager role is central to securing Talking Money’s long-term sustainability. Following funding changes, we are strengthening our income generation with a focus on trusts and foundations and corporate partnerships.

You will join a small, ambitious Leadership Team, shaping strategy while delivering income in a mission-driven organisation.

What you’ll do

• Lead and grow income from trusts and foundations, including multi-year funding
• Develop early-stage corporate partnerships aligned with our mission
• Write high-quality funding applications and reports
• Build strong, long-term relationships with funders and partners
• Track fundraising performance, forecasts and pipeline
• Work closely with colleagues to gather impact data and stories
• Contribute to Talking Money’s fundraising strategy

About you

You will be a confident, values-driven fundraiser with:

• A track record of securing income from trusts and foundations and/or corporate partners
• Excellent written communication skills
• Strong relationship-building skills
• The ability to think strategically while delivering operationally
• A collaborative and organised working style
• A commitment to equity, inclusion and whole-person support

Experience in small charities, individual giving or fundraising communications is welcome but not essential.
