About the role

As Research Grants Manager, you will establish and manage Macmillan’s research funding activities. You’ll help develop our research strategy, build a programme of grant funding, and ensure robust, equitable and transparent processes across the full research funding cycle.

You will work closely with senior clinical leaders, academic partners and research funders to establish Macmillan’s identity within the UK cancer research ecosystem and deliver high‑quality, strategically aligned research grants.
 

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver a research strategy and priority themes aligned with Macmillan’s strategy, in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and Research & Health Data Lead.
• Establish Macmillan’s research funding programme to enable the award of high quality, strategically aligned research grants to build national research capacity centred on people living with cancer.
• Design and implement application, peer review and award processes across the research funding cycle.
• Lead the planning, logistics and documentation for all research funding calls.
• Convene and facilitate expert review panels, including lived experience representatives.
• Oversee the management of the research grants portfolio, ensuring accurate records, reporting, auditing and impact monitoring.
• Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions, research funders and charities.
• Manage and develop a small team responsible for overseeing the administration of awards.

About you

The successful candidate will bring:

• An advanced degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., health policy or health services research, public health, social science, implementation science) or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience of establishing and managing research funding programmes, including application, peer review and post‑award processes within a research funder, charity or equivalent.
• Experience of convening and facilitating expert panels, including lived experience representatives.
• Experience in managing and developing a small team, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing culture
• Strong understanding of research governance, ethics, compliance and impact assessment frameworks.
• Knowledge of the UK research funding landscape and cancer research ecosystem.
• Excellent project management, analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Job description

The PR and Communications Officer will support the Senior PR and Communications Officer to raise awareness of the Charity by identifying and promoting compelling stories to regional and national media. Working closely with colleagues across PR and Communications, clinical teams, Fundraising, Marketing and Digital, the role will help to showcase the Charity’s impact on people affected by cancer in the UK and globally, while supporting fundraising activity across all income streams.

The PR and Communications Officer will support the Senior PR and Communications Officer in writing content for relevant in‑house magazine titles, along with using their communications expertise, with guidance from the wider PR and Communications Team, to help promote community fundraising events, corporate partnerships, major donor events and fundraising campaigns.

About the role

The Learning & Development Administrator provides administrative and coordination support across learning, development, and workforce planning activities. Reporting to the Head of People & Culture, the role ensures statutory and mandatory training compliance is monitored, training programmes are coordinated, and accurate workforce and skills data is maintained.

The role:
As the Co-ordinator (Projects) you will provide general ad hoc admin support to multiple areas of your department and team members.  You will liaise with subject matter experts for them to provide you content.  Proofread content and ensure it complies with your organisation’s guides.  You will enter questions onto online digital platforms.  Utilise an online translation tool to amend questions as needed.  Test translated items with subject matter experts.  You will create and monitor project plans, including preparing and maintain project documentation, e.g. action logs, status updates, risk logs, and comms plans.  Schedule project meetings and track follow up actions.

Do you have an in-depth understanding of housing law and proven experience of preparing, planning and delivering training courses to individuals and groups, online and face to face? We are looking for a Trainer - you could soon be helping us to help better support professionals and their clients with housing problems and exercise their housing rights.

About the Role

You will deliver training to a variety of external customers, focussing on housing and homelessness. The overall aim will be to support capacity and capability of the housing and homelessness sector to achieve better outcomes for clients. You will need to keep your knowledge up to date and contribute the insights you gain from training delivery and observing our front-line services to develop existing and new courses, ensuring excellent quality and positive feedback. Also, you will participate in consultancy and mystery shopping as needed.

About you

To succeed, you will need experience of delivering and developing training courses which are engaging and interactive, along with an excellent understanding of housing and homelessness law. You will also have a sound knowledge of IT tools such as webinar and e-learning platform and Microsoft applications.  The role will involve travel to deliver training as needed.

About the team

You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team that delivers a range of second tier services to support those on the frontline to achieve positive outcomes for people with housing problems. These include training in housing and homeless prevention, housing law consultancy advice, housing debt casework, information and online resources and various targeted projects. We are a national team and work in conjunction with the wider organisation including Legal Services, Learning and Development, Business Support, Telephone and Online services and Operations teams.

The Survivor Engagement and Activism Coordinator leads the Helen Bamber Foundation’s work to ensure that survivors of trafficking, torture, and human rights abuses are meaningfully involved in shaping services, influencing policy, and driving social change. Working within the Community and Integration team, the post holder safeguards and supports clients as they participate in advocacy, leadership, and organisational development projects.

They oversee key survivor engagement programmes, including the Ambassadors for Change advocacy and leadership programme, the Client Voices Forum, the Board Advisers, and the Alumni Network. This involves coordinating training, facilitating meetings, supporting campaigns, managing administrative processes, and ensuring survivors are prepared, empowered, and safe throughout their involvement.

The role also involves developing innovative ways for survivors to collaborate with staff, contributing to service design, organisational strategy, and sector-wide initiatives. The post holder builds relationships across the asylum and modern slavery sectors, manages lived experience opportunities, and may support client progression and education casework when needed.

Throughout all responsibilities, the Coordinator champions survivor leadership, promotes diversity and inclusion, maintains the ethos of the charity, and practices strong self-care while working with traumatic material.

The UCL Dementia Research Centre (DRC), based in the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease and led by Professor Nick Fox, is a hub for clinical research into various forms of dementia. Our work focuses on identifying and understanding the disease processes that cause dementia, the factors that influence these disease processes, and how best to support people with dementia and their families. In addition to our research, we also provide a cognitive disorders clinic within the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Rare Dementia Support (RDS) is a UCL-led collaborative service offering specialist social, emotional and practical support services for individuals living with, or affected by, a rare dementia diagnosis. Our vision is for all individuals with, at risk of, or supporting someone with one of these forms of dementia to have access to information, tailored support and guidance, and contact with others affected by similar conditions. RDS is provided by the UCL Dementia Research Centre (DRC) at the Queen Square Institute of Neurology and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery - where the post is based - and partners, and funded by The National Brain Appeal.

You will contribute to the work of the Rare Dementia Support (RDS) direct support team providing advice via support calls and in-person at the new Rare Dementia Support Centre (RDSC) by supporting people living with atypical, inherited, and young onset dementias, their carers, their families, and their friends, and professionals and practitioners working to support them. This role includes the opportunity to shape and direct special projects related to the development of new support groups, professional training, or patient and public involvement/engagement (PPI/E), in line with the activities of RDS and the wider Dementia Research Centre.

This post is offered on a hybrid basis with the expectation that you will be on site or at agreed regional work locations for 60-80% of your working week. You will also be expected to occasionally work on Saturdays and some evenings to attend support group-related activities which are usually held off-site in central London (but may require business travel). Restrictions on taking annual leave at times of high, section-specific workload may apply.

You will have an Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant health-related discipline and experience delivering pre-, peri-, and post-diagnostic rare dementia support. Extensive and expert knowledge of atypical, inherited, and young onset dementias, and up to date knowledge of the range of support available to people living with rare dementia and their families, and relevant aspects of the health and social care systems in the UK is essential.

A demonstratable understanding of, and ability to, manage the needs of patients with degenerative conditions, including the use of specific support skills and strategies as appropriate is also a requirement. You will also have excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to communicate highly sensitive information to cognitively impaired and/or psychologically vulnerable people and their carers, who may have significant barriers to understanding or acceptance.

Starting salary offered at UCL Grade 7 in the range £43,981 - £45,103, inclusive of London Allowance.
