Summary

The Church of England has recently agreed a significant increase in funding to support God's mission and ministry across the country, supporting local parishes and growing many more new worshipping communities to serve the whole nation. The distributions will also help fund dioceses' plans to serve the nation in various areas such radically cutting the Church's carbon footprint and supporting parishes, cathedrals, and dioceses with using their buildings, to best missional effect whilst ensuring their protection, enhancement, conservation, and appropriate adaptation.

The Net Zero Carbon programme was established to help the Church of England to deliver its commitment to reaching Net Zero Carbon by 2030. It aims to aims to equip, resource and support all parts of the Church to reduce carbon emissions from the energy used in its buildings, schools and through work-related transport by 2030. The team manages the distribution of a grant portfolio worth £190 million across 2023-33, aimed at supporting and equipping dioceses, parishes and other parts of the Church to reach the milestones set out in the Routemap to Net Zero 2030.

This role will play a vital role in supporting the work of the Net Zero Carbon Programme's grant streams, supporting it in delivering a consistent and responsive service to grantees.

The purpose of this role is to provide a responsive service as operational officer for the grant schemes under the Churches Workstream in the Net Zero Carbon Programme:

• Currently the Demonstrator Churches Grant Fund and the Boiler Replacement Hardship Grant Fund,
• 26-28 Decarbonising Churches Grant Fund

The postholder will be the first point of contact on behalf of the grant giver for new applicants and existing grantees under the grant schemes, handling a busy caseload from pre-application contact through to completion. This will involve all aspects of grant service delivery including assessment, issuing of offers and rejections, monitoring, payments, quality assurance and evaluation within the governance and decision-making framework in place for the grant schemes. The postholder will work under the supervision of the Demonstrator Churches Grants Manager and the Decarbonising Churches Lead, who will provide overall guidance and strategic oversight for the relevant grant funds, and will work closely with the Grants Administrator on operational matters.

The role will report directly to the Net Zero Carbon Programme's Decarbonising Churches Lead.

• This is a fixed-term contract due to end December 2028.
• This is a hybrid role required to attend the office location, Church House London one day per week.

The Migrant and Refugee Children’s Legal Unit at Islington Law Centre has a much-respected Immigration Team. We are a category 1 Legal Aid Immigration provider, and we have considerable experience across the range of immigration and asylum work, running cases at all levels of the Tribunal and Court system including the Administrative Court, the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. We wish to further develop our public law work and practice. The work would mainly involve Albanian cases coming through our Breaking the Chains project, alongside other work of the Unit.

We are an expanding practice and currently have ten solicitors and caseworkers working in immigration at the Law Centre. There are opportunities to work within a supportive team and to develop your areas of expertise. The candidate must be an experienced IAAS Senior Caseworker or Supervising Senior Caseworker.

For over 15 years, Scotty's Little Soldiers has been supporting children and young people who have been bereaved of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces.  We are about to embark on an exciting journey which will see the charity evolve to support anyone affected by a military-connected bereavement and ultimately empower a community of more than 25,000 bereaved individuals and their families by 2035.

Founded in 2010 by Nikki Scott following the death of her husband, Corporal Lee Scott, the charity currently offers a unique blend of emotional, practical, and educational support to over 750 young people.

Role Mission.

To ensure Scotty’s delivers high-quality, consistent, and scalable support to those affected by military-connected bereavement, by leading all aspects of service delivery. 

You’ll own the structure, systems, standards, and team needed to deliver support across all four Family Programmes (SMILES, SUPPORT, STRIDES, and the planned START programme) and help ensure our support reaches the growing number of families who need us. 

The key responsibilities of this role are:

Programme Operations & Service Infrastructure 

• Overall accountability for the service provided to the bereaved military community. 

• Leading, and working closely with, the Head of each delivery Programme to ensure all activities are impactful and meeting the needs of our community. 

• Mapping and maintaining the full beneficiary journey across all programmes and cohorts (CYP and adult). 

• Developing our first adult focused services and building them in line with the charity’s long-term vision to be supporting more than 25k bereaved people by 2035. 

• Being the link between our service delivery and both internal and external technology partners to ensure our systems match, and meet the needs of, our processes. 

• Alongside our Operations Team, lead the scoping of a full future CRM (Salesforce) rebuild and related beneficiary tech interfaces such as websites, future app development etc. 

• Oversee the design of a 2026 ‘light’ CRM phase to support individual adult service delivery. 

• Ensure that lived experience remains at the heart of our services. 

• Accountability for Safeguarding within the organisation. 

Team Leadership  

• Support Programme Leads (e.g. Heads of START, SMILES, SUPPORT), providing direction and support as well as ensuring clarity of ownership and goals. 

• Create a strong, empowering culture within the service (Families) team, aligned with The Scotty’s Way and shared leadership philosophy. 

• Work with our Head of People to oversee service recruitment and onboarding.

Quality, Measurement & Improvement 

• Define and embed service-level Success Measures (KPIs) across all activities ensuring we know what success looks like for all our activities. 

• Collaborate with the Head of Research & Impact to ensure data collection is usable and meaningful. 

External Partnerships & Collaborations 

• Proactively develop senior-level partnerships with other military and bereavement charities, Armed Forces support organisations, and relevant service providers and stakeholders. 

• Explore and propose strategic collaborations where they strengthen the support we offer to families. 

• Ensure the new START (single point of contact) Programme becomes an active network-builder in the space. 

• Represent Scotty’s externally at events, conferences, meetings etc within the sector.

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

• Act as a key link to Outreach and Fundraising — providing insight and service stories to fuel content. 

• Work with the Ops team to align delivery processes with systems, IT, and compliance. 

• Support bid development and reporting for funders by sharing service insight and outcomes. 

The 30-day goals for this role are:

• Build a deep understanding of Scotty’s mission, our audience, the services we provide, and strategic direction.
• Spending time with the Families Team and understanding everyone’s role within the charity.
• Understands the ‘as-is’ current situation for the charity’s service delivery. 
• Start to document gaps, delivery inconsistencies, opportunities, risks etc. 
• Understand the landscape we operate in, particularly the military and bereavement charitable environment. 
• Fully align with the operating rhythm of the charity, leading team meetings, holding 1:1s, ownership of relevant OKRs, etc. 

The 60-day goals for this role are:

• Has met with counterparts at key partner organisations. 

• Has highlighted key organisations not currently partnered with to meet. 

• Created a stakeholder holder engagement map for our service delivery.

• Visually mapped existing beneficiary journeys across our four Programmes. 

• Began work (with Ops) on requirements for initial-phase CRM for adult services. 

• Fully aligned plans and goals with existing Programme Heads, incoming Head of START Programme, and incoming Head of Research & Impact. 

• Held one in-person session with Families team. 

The 90-day goals for this role are:

• Visually mapped year one of adult services plus any proposed changes to existing services to create a final 2026/27 service ‘to-be’. 

• Planned the launch of our new START navigating entitlements casework Programme

• Development underway of ‘Light’ CRM to launch adult services having supplied detailed brief. 

• Taken full accountability for the success of our Family Programmes and associated impact. 

• Attended 2-3 sector group meetings representing Scotty’s solo. 

• Developed a stakeholder holder engagement plan with Head of PR & Comms.

About the role

We’re looking for a Individual Giving Officer with Individual Giving or project management experience to join our Individual Giving, Legacies and E-commerce Team. 

Working within the Individual Giving, Legacies and E-commerce Team, you’ll have a varied role managing and supporting the delivery of  fundraising appeals which will recruit, retain and develop supporters across our acquisition and retention programmes. These appeals will include utilising online and offline channels such as direct mail, organic and paid social advertising, email, face-to-face fundraising, Payroll Giving and telemarketing.

A stimulating and rewarding opportunity has arisen for a Practitioner Psychologist with a Forensic background. You will work alongside the Group Psychological Lead and other members of the team within our Independent Approved Premises (IAP) to deliver psychological services to residents and staff. In this role, you will apply your skills and knowledge in building new teams and expand our operational delivery within our IAP. You will play a strategic role in our organisational growth with new services, with a focus on shaping service delivery; offering specialist advice, supervising assistant psychologists and postgraduate research.

Our IAP's support residents who have left prison and are based within a residential setting to reintegrate into the community. They are given support and guidance to aid their reablement, resettlement and rehabilitation post prison. You will contribute towards them achieving goals necessary for their personal development and move on within the community. 

Key Responsibilities include:

• Providing high quality psychological services, contributing to the delivery of Approved Premises aims as specified by the Ministry of Justice.
• Ensuring all services are delivered in accordance with HCPC standards of conduct, performance and ethics.

We are seeking a Community Development Officer to lead a major in-progress project improving recognition, support, and care for people with smell and taste disorders at a local level across England. 

This three-year, volunteer-led programme, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund has achieved significant success in its first eighteen months. We are now recruiting a new postholder to take this strong foundation forward through the next phase of delivery. 

Over the past eighteen months, we have recruited and established a thriving network of volunteers and local groups across England. This momentum is expected to continue. The Community Development Officer will work closely with existing volunteers and groups, primarily remotely, while also attending in-person events and meetings in different parts of England as needed. 

The postholder will lead the ongoing recruitment, training, and support of volunteer groups, working with them to identify opportunities for local outreach and engagement. Together, you will ensure that more people affected by smell and taste disorders access the information, support, and recognition they need, while continuing to raise awareness of these often-unrecognised sensory impairments. 

Our volunteer groups bring together people with lived experience alongside experts from the food, beverage and fragrance sectors, and other relevant fields.

About the Church Commissioners

Established in 1948, The Church Commissioners works to support the Church of England's ministry.

The main aspects to the work of the Church Commissioners are as follows:

Managing the endowment fund

The Investments team of c. 85 colleagues manages the Church's permanent endowment fund. This £11.1 billion fund (as at 31st December 2024) is one of the largest in the country and has its origins in Queen Anne's Bounty, which was established in 1704.

The fund represents a diverse investments portfolio, which is managed with a strong focus on responsible and ethical investments that enable the funding support for the Church of England to grow in line with agreed investment return targets.

Church-Facing Commissioner Teams

There are three Church-facing Commissioner Teams:

• The Church Buildings team of c. 35 colleagues supports dioceses and parishes with the care, conservation and development of historic church buildings, advises on permissions for changes to church buildings and provides guidance on architectural and heritage matters. It helps churches adapt for worship and community use and works with government to advise on policies that affect church buildings;
• The Mission & Pastoral Services team of c. 10 colleagues supports the creation, merger and closure of parishes and benefices. It oversees the adjustment of parish boundaries, supports dioceses on the legal framework for pastoral change, and handles the legal steps when a church building is no longer required for public worship, including finding suitable alternative uses or disposal;
• The Bishoprics & Cathedrals team of c. 40 colleagues advises on the provision of suitable housing and office accommodation for diocesan bishops and archbishops, funding bishops' working costs, and supporting cathedrals in their governance and sustainability. It also oversees , the historic library and record office of the Archbishops of Canterbury and the main archive for the documentary history of the Church of England.

Central Support and Governance

Overall, there are c. 10 colleagues in the Central support and governance team:

• The Commissioners' Secretariat team supports the Chief Executive, senior trustees and Board in all aspects of their governance;
• The Engagement Manager is responsible for working closely with a wide variety of Commissioners' teams to help ensure that the Church Commissioners has effective engagement with a wide variety of Stakeholders;
• The Strategic Programme management team varies in size depending on the strategic projects currently underway (see below for further details).

Church of England Central Services (ChECS)

The Church Commissioners is supported by a number of key enabling teams which are part of the Church of England Central Services. This NCI consists of Finance, Assurance, Technology, Data, Project Management, Communications and Legal teams. The ChECS team is c. 150 colleagues.

The Church Commissioners is accountable to Parliament, General Synod and, as a registered charity, to the Charity Commission. The Archbishop of Canterbury is the Commissioners' Chair and the current Deputy Chair is the Bishop of Salisbury. Three of the Commissioners' trustees are known as Church Estates Commissioners (CECs), who will be key stakeholders for this role. The First CEC chairs the Assets (investment) Committee and the Second CEC is an MP who helps exercise accountability to Parliament. Both are appointed by HM The King on the advice of the Prime Minister. The Third CEC chairs committees that oversee the work of the Church-facing Commissioner Teams and is appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Director of Strategy and Engagement has direct responsibility for Central Support and Governance, comprising the Commissioners' Secretariat (4 colleagues), the Engagement Manager and the Strategic Programme Management team (c. 5 colleagues). Additional Strategic Programme team members may be added as further strategic projects are commissioned.

Strategic focus

• Support the Chief Executive and Board with the development, articulation and delivery of the Commissioners' strategic business plan to enable it to support the mission and ministry of the Church of England, engaging widely and authentically in so doing;
• Act as a close adviser and sounding board for the Chief Executive and leadership team, ensuring the provision of accurate and timely advice, briefings and presentations;
• Assist in developing and delivering plans and projects to give life to the business plan.

Communications and stakeholder engagement

• Advise on, and support, stakeholder engagement. Develop and implement engagement and communications strategies for key stakeholders and leaders, e.g., bishops, parliamentarians, dioceses and General Synod (the Church's legislative and deliberative body). This includes major projects and programmes of work and liaison with the Communications team;
• Champion the views of key stakeholders and beneficiaries within the Commissioners, helping to ensure that business plans and projects reflect the perspectives of the wider Church.

Project support

• Manage complex or sensitive strategic projects and issues, thinking through the consequences of those projects, decisions and communications, including considering reputation matters.
• Facilitate the implementation of change plans, working closely with the Commissioners' leadership team and other NCI executive team colleagues.
• Support the implementation of cross-NCI programmes from the Commissioners' perspective;
• Use the Project and Programme Methodology adopted by the Church Commissioners and participate in current project governance structures - working with the PMO to continue to improve this.

Provide leadership and support to project teams, including:

• the Programme Spire team (which is managing a multi-year research programme to understand and respond to the charity's historic links to African chattel enslavement);
• any changes to the organisational structure for the Church Commissioners, ensuring they are provided with appropriate performance targets and support. This should be done working closely with the appropriate Finance and People teams.

Leadership and wider context

• Keep up to date with current events, trends and concerns which might affect the work of the Commissioners, NCIs and the wider Church;
• Support the wider Church as a senior leader, contributing to the development of the NCIs. Draw connections between operational activities in different teams, and with other NCI activities where appropriate.

• A salary of c.£95,000 plus age-related pension contributions between 8-15% of salary. We will also match any pension contributions you make up to an additional 3% of your salary.

CONTEXT OF THIS ROLE:

At Purposeful, learning is a political responsibility. We are reclaiming and organising our many ways of knowing, meeting stories with data, and building a robust case for this work. We are bridging traditional logical frameworks with feminist learning principles and creating space for their co-existence. 

The Senior Learning and Insights Manager will play a critical role--  contributing to a bold learning and insights strategy aligned with Purposeful’s vision, mission, and growth, leading the design of data collection systems, contributing to data collection efforts, from surveys to storytelling, closing feedback loops and crafting knowledge products, intended to inform, influence and amplify. 

They will bring technical expertise across a range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies, they will come with curiosity and a willingness to share. The Learning and Insights Manager will work closely with the Learning and Insights Lead and across all Purposeful teams, particularly Grant-making, Communications and Resource Mobilisation. 

This is an exciting opportunity to join Purposeful at a time when we are launching a new strategy and consolidating everything we’ve learned about our learning and insights approach over the last seven years. 

SCOPE OF WORK

1. Learning and Insights Strategy and Systems

• Contribute to the delivery and implementation of a new Learning and Insights strategy and results framework, building on our Learning Agenda. 

• Lead the design and embedding of data collection tools and systems across Purposeful teams, in particular our global grantmaking and advocacy teams.

• Work closely with the Learning and Insights team to champion a culture of learning within Purposeful and with grantee partners. 

2. Technical Support

• Lead cycles of data collection across our global grantmaking work - supporting regional teams with technical expertise, as and when needed. 

• Periodically join learning calls, spaces and convenings with our grantee partners - embedding and supporting documentation. 

• Lead regular cross team learning and insights meetings and drive follow up actions.

• Conduct periodic analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, and produce synthesis that informs strategic choices across thematic and regional work.

• Facilitate sense-making and feedback loops with the Purposeful team, girls, young feminists, and grantee partners. 

• Manage timelines and workplans to feed into key learning and reporting moments. 

3. Research 

• Move learning grants to grantees (approximately five to ten grants annually) to enable them to document their work and/or conduct research which they have identified as a priority  - this includes an application process, accompaniment plan and check-ins. 

• Contribute to the delivery of research led or commissioned by Purposeful, this may include the reviewing TORS and methodologies, check ins with consultants, and reviewing deliverables.

4. Knowledge Production and Dissemination 

• Conceptualize and produce case studies, briefs or other knowledge products underpinned by quantitative and qualitative data, to assist with case building.

• Contribute to the development of other external knowledge products as required, such as slidedecks, thematic briefs, regional briefs, blogs, op-eds, and research reports. 

• Work across teams to identify opportunities to disseminate and amplify knowledge products, including conference spaces, social media campaigns, webinars, instagram lives and academic publications. 

• Lead and/or contribute to the drafting of conference and journal abstracts. 

• Represents Purposeful in high level external spaces, including conferences, funder collaborations and research partnerships.

5. Other 

• Line manages one to two team members and oversees consultants as required.

• Respond to information needs and requests of the Senior Management and Leadership Team as needed. 

• Stay abreast of research related to our work and research methodologies, by reviewing publications and attending related conferences, meetings, and other events. 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Experience & Skills

• At least five to seven years of experience in MEL or research, including experience working with philanthropic funds, feminist organisations or social justice movements.

• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing learning frameworks and systems across multiple projects or funds. 

• In-depth understanding of feminist issues, movement building, social justice and/or girls’ rights, or another thematic area, such as humanitarian aid or climate change, and how it relates to girls and young feminists.

• Experience in qualitative and quantitative research.

• The capacity to analyse, critique and identify themes and insights.

• Experience of Salesforce or another database or information management system.

• Proven experience facilitating cross team learning and influencing senior colleagues to act on evidence and insights.

• Excellent writing skills, with demonstrable experience of tailoring knowledge products for different audiences. 

• Data visualisation skills are desirable. 

• Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and ability to multi-task.

• Strong (in-person and virtual) workshop development and facilitation skills.

• Confidence to work both independently and collaboratively.

As our Case Study Operations Manager, you’ll ensure British Heart Foundation (BHF) has a reliable, compliant, and clinically appropriate pipeline of patient stories to support campaigns, fundraising, media, and policy.

In this role, you’ll pivot our ‘Heart Stories’ function to operate as a service delivery team, acting as a casting agent for outward-facing teams.

The role will combine clinical literacy, system integration expertise, and workflow management to modernise the Heart Stories Library, reduce bottlenecks in sign-off, and deliver a better experience for both patients and internal customers.
