The successful applicant will be fluent in French or Spanish as well as English, or ideally all three, with a proven track record of impactful journalism and/or securing high-level media coverage as part of a press office.

The successful candidate will work independently to ensure a steady flow of high-quality press outreach, as well as pitching and writing articles and op-eds to promote our perspectives. You will know which outlets key political decision-makers read, and how to place material with them.

You will be an outstanding writer, and possess superb adaptability and inventiveness to respond to a rapidly changing policy landscape.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement integrated communication plans and campaigns to support EJF’s policy work in the EU

• Ensure impactful and consistent coverage of our campaigns, and the issues they cover, in high-profile media outlets

• Prepare press releases and media packs for report launches and external developments, ensuring both proactive and reactive coverage

• Respond swiftly to media enquiries

• Research and actively engage media contacts and outlets, remotely and in person, to increase EJF’s reach, building a database to record and evaluate this outreach

• Work with our communications team around the world to develop coordinated media strategies across geographies and languages

• Evaluate and report on our press performance, making recommendations for ongoing improvement

• Create engaging and impactful content for our various communication channels, including our website, social media, newsletters, and other relevant platforms. This includes writing op-eds and blog articles on core EJF campaign areas

• Uphold the highest standards of scientifically rigorous but engaging writing at all times

• Host press briefings at events with external stakeholders

Essential skills and attributes

• Professional fluency (including excellent writing and editing skills) in English and either French or Spanish

• At least 3 years of experience working in communications, a press office, journalism or similar, with a particular focus on placing stories with, or writing for, high-level traditional media outlets

• Knowledge of media relations, developing communication materials, writing content for different channels and developing social media campaigns

• Experience of and confidence in dealing with journalists from different types of media to ensure effective coverage

• An effective knowledge of the media outlets read by political decision-makers in the EU, and how to place articles in them

• Excellent copywriting skills, including under time pressure, and the ability to identify a good story, linking current affairs to EJF campaigns

• An exceptional level of creativity and drive to seek out new opportunities to promote EJF’s work

• Outstanding attention to detail and factual accuracy

AAFDA was founded by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will who were both killed by her ex-partner in 2003.

Each year, around 150 families lose a loved one to domestic homicide. The actual number of suicides as a result of domestic abuse remains unknown.  Most of these families suffer significant problems including relationship breakdown, job difficulties/loss and mental and physical health issues. We help these families in many ways, our prime function being to provide families in England and Wales with specialist peer support and expert and specialist advocacy for the range of statutory reviews that will take place after domestic homicide.

AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) is a growing Charity and to meet the demands of this growth, we are looking for exceptional candidates to join our team in a highly rewarding opportunity. Although home based, some travel will be required - frequency will be commensurate to the role. A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Regional Casework Manager (RCM) to join the North West of England Region at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

About the role

You will be part of the regional office team, managing a group of casework administrators. The team provides specialist administrative support and act as a single point of contact to SSAFA branch-based volunteers ensuring that SSAFA beneficiaries receive consistent, timely, and high-quality service. The RCM role will involve developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with volunteers, including branch-based casework managers.  Additionally, the RCM will occasionally assist the Regional Casework Co-ordinators with call handling, signposting, and triaging initial client enquiries.

To help you establish yourself in this post you will receive excellent training and induction to SSAFA.  You will influence the processes and procedures within the regional office as it develops, working closely with a dedicated team under the guidance of the Regional Manager.

The position is home-based, but you will occasionally be required to travel within the North West Region or to other locations.

About the team

The regional office is a “virtual” office and supports the six SSAFA branches in the North West of England region, as the branch-based volunteers deliver casework for SSAFA beneficiaries.  The successful candidate will work as part of a larger support team which will include 5 Casework Administrators and a Regional Manager.  All team members are home based, residing in the region.

About you

To excel in this role, you should have a solid educational background and experience in managing employees, as well as overseeing and reporting on service delivery.  You should have a proven ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, achieving results through negotiation and influence.  Previous experience of working with volunteers would be advantageous.  You will have used Microsoft Office 365 to a high standard and be capable of learning a computerised case management system quickly. Additionally, you should be skilled with numerical data.

The successful candidate will be capable of planning and managing their own workload, with minimal supervision and have considerable experience of managing accounts.

It would be desirable to have an understanding of the way of life for today’s Armed Forces, veterans and their families. Liaising with key stakeholders, you will provide advice and guidance on commercial, contract, and property-related legal matters, helping to shape risk-informed decision-making.

About you
Joining us, you'll have an extensive legal background with a legal qualification, and broad experience of legal leadership. You'll be a good communicator with the interpersonal skills required to build relationships and form trust and respect throughout the organisation, whilst also possessing the ability to communicate complex legal concepts in an accessible way to people without a legal background.

To succeed in this role, you'll have the ability to absorb and understand the legal issues deriving from the operations of a large and complex organisation, whilst also then providing pragmatic and user-friendly legal advice and support, including ad hoc oral advice.

Crucially, you'll be able to lead a high performing, sought after and valued legal team, utilising your excellent people management and teamworking skills effectively. You will have the ability to work collaboratively and deliver successful joint outcomes in potentially time-sensitive situations.

What you’ll focus on:

- Leading and managing the legal team ensuring the service provides specialist knowledge and advice, in a timely and professional manner, aligned to the needs of the Society.
- Overseeing, managing, and delivering a portfolio of legal matters as required, and as they arise with support from the legal team.
- Working closely, in partnership with Society stakeholders, to ensure the legal team is visible, and that legal matters are considered at the right level at the right time.
- Providing advice and guidance, as required to Executive management and/or Trustees, delivered in a format that is accessible and appropriate for the needs of the client.
- Actively contributing to Society projects, strategies, or initiatives where legal input adds value.

About the role

You will undertake a range of administrative tasks in relation to the technical infrastructure and systems needed to support and deliver our training offer.  You will support the administration of some broader relationship and partnership outcomes. This includes routine tasks in relation to the administration of our CRM (Salesforce) and other partnership tools and processes as necessary. 

This role will also support our efforts to grow the training offer by assisting with elements of the sales process — such as responding to enquiries, following up leads, and maintaining accurate records of prospects and bookings. While no formal sales experience is required, a proactive and relationship-focused approach is key, alongside a willingness to support the promotion of SEA’s mission and training opportunities to new and existing audiences.

The Combined Cadet Force Association (CCFA) is a charity dedicated to the promotion of the ideals and activities of the Combined Cadet Force in schools.
