Greenhouse Sports is on a mission to change the lives of young people in poverty through the power of sport and mentoring.
Too many young people are being left behind. It’s not because they lack potential, but because poverty stacks the odds against them, affecting their education, mental health, and their future.
Our full-time Coach-Mentors work daily in schools in high-deprivation areas, significantly improving attendance, behaviour, wellbeing and life skills. Our Greenhouse Centre (re-opening in Autumn 2025 following refurbishment) provides year-round sport, mentoring and outreach for young people and communities who need it most.
The Deputy Director of Fundraising is a new role, as we work towards a step-change in income growth. The team currently generates £4m annually from major donors, trusts, institutions and businesses, plus an impressive array of special events raising an additional £1m per year. We know there is potential for more, and this role will drive forward a new strategy to help even more young people have a fair chance in life.
The role will report to the Director of Fundraising and Communications and will lead a team of 13 (with direct line management of 5).
The role will:
- Lead the fundraising strategy for income growth.
- Oversee all high-value fundraising streams generating £6m+ annually, ensuring cross-channel opportunities are maximised.
- Oversee the personal development of the fundraising staff, being an inspirational role model and leader.
- Work in close partnership with the Director of Fundraising and Communications, deputising as needed.
- Act as an ambassador for Greenhouse Sports and our mission, regularly representing us with partners, at events and sector activities.
- Proactively fundraise and manage relationships at an appropriate level, role modelling collaborative, ambitious approaches.
- Build meaningful relationships across the organisation, including with senior volunteers, impact and insight teams, research partners and coaching development teams.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Extensive experience of the fundraising mix, particularly philanthropy and fundraising events – or comparable experience from the commercial sector.

- Experience working with 7-figure budgets.
- Able to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and confidential information, and negotiate with senior stakeholders.

About the role

· At least three years’ experience of providing leaving care and/or housing support to single homeless or other vulnerable client groups, including young people.
· At least one year’s experience of effectively managing professional staff.
· A good understanding of Safeguarding and the legal framework relevant to the provision of residential services for young people aged 16+.

About the role:
This role is based out of our Chandlers Ford office on a hybrid basis with the expectation of 60% of your working week from the office. Our events team are bold & innovative working across a wide portfolio of fundraising and engagement events including our annual flagship fundraising walk, The Twilight Walk, an exciting challenge event portfolio and a growing special events programme. It’s an exciting time to join the Events Fundraising Team. We have a new five-year strategy and are a team with big ambitions! As the Event Manager [Challenge and Third-Party Events], you will play a huge part in making these ambitions a reality and paving the way for our future.
You will be responsible for planning, developing, marketing, and implementing the challenge and third-party events portfolio, ensuring outstanding stewardship of participants, providing on the day leadership and full post-event review against objectives. Success will be measured primarily by achieving income targets within the planned expenditure, but also number of attendees, publicity, retention of supporters, receipt of positive feedback and return on investment with a community-first led approach. You will manage and develop an amazing team of events fundraisers, and work with the Head of Events to support of the broader team, offering guidance, and role modelling.
In addition to supporting the existing portfolio, you will also be responsible for assessing current trends and developing new events concepts that help us to maximise income and deliver on our ambition and strategic goals.

Essential skills and experience
- You have in-depth knowledge and experience of leading a fundraising challenge event portfolio [1-3 years plus at management level]

About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Operations and supported by 6 team leaders and central reporting and administration support, success in this hands-on leadership role is about how you support, coach and develop our capabilities for the future across a diverse range of services and projects.
A hands-on and mobile role you provide leadership and support to the services team leaders in each of our service locations and play a key role in developing and enhancing relationships with commissioners.
You will guide and support the teams in managing and improving their services so they run to the best of their ability and meet funder requirements. You will coach and innovate our services delivery, identifying and shaping new opportunities to achieve our mission.

The role:
This key role will add substantial grant-making and strategic capacity to the AFF team, which currently consists of 7 people reporting to the Director of A Fairer Future. The role will take on existing relationships in the form of a portfolio of organisations at various points in their funding journey. This person will pick up these relationships and ensure continuity as well as assessing new applications. There will also be work contributing to strategic initiatives, helping to achieve impact in the thematic areas covered by the AFF strategy and roadmaps. Committed to social justice, the candidate will be ambitious to help create change using Esmée's full range of tools and approaches.
Convening collaborations, commissioning research and mobilising networks to create change will all be part of this role in addition to the more day to day management of organisation's funding journey, supporting them from application onwards to achieve the best possible impact. The person:
The successful candidate will have experience of working in one or more of the areas cover by the AFF priorities, perhaps gained through work in the voluntary or local authority sector.
