A growing £1million turnover charity dedicated to the health and wellbeing of children and adults through the healing power of music have newly created a Head of Finance and Operations role. This role will drive organisational impact with a values driven approach towards financial strategy, resource optimisation, and operational excellence.

As part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Head of Finance and Operations provides a pivotal role in the strategic and operational leadership across the core support functions of the charity. Through sound management of resources, risk, people, systems and data, this role ensures robust governance, financial sustainability, regulatory compliance and organisational effectiveness enabling the charity to achieve its mission.

The core support functions of the charity include Finance, HR, technology and data, health and safety, and governance.

Salary: £60,000 per annum (this will be pro-rata'd for 30hours per week)

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• As a member of the SLT, actively contribute to the development and delivery of the charity's strategic plan, leading on the organisational planning and performance for operational areas.
• Work with the CEO to ensure the Board fulfils its legal, regulatory, and financial responsibilities with effective controls through various Board meetings and sub-committees.
• Lead on the risk management for the charity, working with the Board and SLT to identify, record and mitigate risk.
• Act as the Data Protection Officer for the charity
• Lead, manage and develop the Finance Manager to oversee day to day financial operations and controls.
• Lead, manage and develop the Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day management of the charity's core support functions.

• Develop, lead and implement the financial strategy to ensure long-term financial sustainability. whilst managing cashflow, reserves and investments in line with the relevant policies.
• Lead on financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting providing analysis to the CEO, SLT, Board and budget holders to support decision-making.
• Prepare and complete annual accounts and statutory returns ensuring compliance with charity finance regulations, managing relationships with auditors and financial institutions.

• Working with external providers, and advisors, lead on people strategy, including recruitment, retention, performance and people development.
• Ensure legal compliance with employment law and best practice HR policies.

Candidates applying for this role must have the following skills and experience:

• CCAB recognised qualifications (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)

1. Operational Oversight and Delivery 

• Lead and manage a small in-house operations team (2 staff members) and oversee the work of external consultants as required to deliver operational plans aligned with strategic goals.

Job Purpose

This role sits within our crisis alternative service, Safe Space, which is a core and out of hours service providing a safe and welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed and experiencing crisis. Our aim of the service is to keep individuals well in the community and prevent readmission into hospital. The service operates 365 days a year from 14:00-22:00pm across all of our boroughs.

Staff within the service will provide person-centred, practical and emotional support, face to face or via telephone or virtual on a one-to-one basis to individuals experiencing mental health crisis or preventing crisis.

The objectives of the service include:

• To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental health and social crisis in HFEH.
• To proactively work with keeping people well in the community to reduce re-admitters into hospitals by working with WL NHS teams (e.g. discharge, LPS, CATT, MINT and SPA)
• To provide a true alternative to A&E via a non-clinical drop-in service to support clients
• To provide support to clients accessing the service- for instance: signposting, de-escalation and crisis recovery planning.
• To contribute to an improvement in individual mental wellbeing.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• To treat service users with respect, dignity and personalised support
• To raise awareness of mental health services available with the goal to improve long term mental health and reduce social isolation
• To increase self-management skills of those accessing the service
• To reduce the use of police, ambulance and statutory mental health services whilst experiencing crisis via a drop-in service.
• To reduce the use of statutory crisis services by people experiencing mental ill health without positive outcomes for the individual.

The Role

The role of the team manager will be to support the rest of the team in delivering interventions on a one-to-one. The role will also involve triaging and assessing all clients accessing the service, signposting and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing. The role will also include line management and supervision of senior support workers and support workers within the service. Team managers are responsible for management of their site; including report writing, audits and being the named manager for the site and allocated borough following the borough-based approach. This role directly supports the service managers in keeping to a high standard service. The role will include implementing a smooth running of the service including facilitating debriefing and providing senior support onsite. The role of the team manager is non-clinical.

The Communications Director will sit at the heart of this work - shaping and delivering a bold communications strategy aligned with Purposeful’s vision, mission, and growth.

This role leads the stewardship of Purposeful’s voice, visual identity, and storytelling practice, ensuring that everything we produce - whether op-eds, reports, campaigns, or digital content - carries our politics with clarity and conviction. The Communications Director will work closely with the Co-CEOs and across all Purposeful teams, including Advocacy, grant-making, Learning & Insights, Programmes, and Resource Mobilisation, to amplify girls’ organising, showcase our impact, and influence the broader philanthropic and activist ecosystem.

SCOPE OF WORK

1. Communications Strategy & Leadership

• Lead on delivery and implementation of a new communications strategy, building on 2025 planning foundations.

• Work closely with the Co-CEOs and director team to horizon scan and adapt strategy in response to organisational vision and external landscape.

• Provide leadership to a small team of staff and consultants (designers, digital specialists, artists) and work collaboratively with partner communications leads on joint campaigns and initiatives.

• Meticulously manage and forecast the communications and editorial budget, ensuring value for money and strong planning.

2. Storytelling & Content Development

• Oversee production and capture of content from live and digital events (webinars, IG Lives, panels, etc.).

3. Writing & Editorial Oversight

We are a multi-award winning, creative, and innovative organisation and the Database Manager is an important role within War Child UK, maintaining and utilising our database system, Salesforce. We’re looking for an experienced Certified Salesforce user who is adept at project management and understands how to work with stakeholders, identify their needs and is able to maximise the features of Salesforce in order to meet them. As someone who works in the Data team and wider Supporter Engagement function, the postholder will be the Salesforce Administrator ensuring the maintenance of Salesforce, as well as line managing the Database Assistant and guiding their work in income reconciliation for the organisation. They will provide training for all staff; carry out development marketing and donation integrations, maintain and build automations and flow, and ensure timely preparation of data for marketing communications. Working across a range of teams at War Child, the Database Manager should be a confident advocate for Salesforce and the importance of CRM, to help War Child achieve our goals and provide better service to our donors, supporters, participants and staff.

The Engagement Coordinator will join our Engagement Team at the forefront of involving local communities and schools in our exciting tree-planting & urban greening projects and engage people in learning about and taking action for trees and the environment.

Our Trees for Schools programme aims to transform urban school grounds into leafy green oases for both the children of today and for future generations. Our award-winning work in schools is delivery-focused and involves transforming school grounds into greener and healthier places to be.

This role involves establishing and maintaining school tree planting projects, climate-adapted gardens and food growing projects with pupils and supporting teaching staff to embed outdoor learning through trees and green spaces into the school curriculum. The coordinator will deliver school tree planting and educational workshops as well as conduct community consultation and coordinate events around public tree planting projects.

This role will join another Engagement Coordinator and the Engagement Manager in working closely with our Urban Forest, Build and Design, Monitoring and Impact, as well as Marketing and Communications teams to deliver multiple, overlapping projects with diverse London communities.

We are looking for an energetic and organised individual to support and coordinate our engagement activities for tree planting and outdoor classroom initiatives. This involves planning, delivering, and reporting back on community consultations, educational workshops, public tree planting events and other activities.
The role is public-facing, so we are looking for confident and adaptable communicators who are comfortable engaging residents in a range of communities, schools, and interest groups, and who are passionate about what we do at Trees for Cities.

We are seeking individuals who are happy to work hands-on outdoors in all weathers at a variety of locations, and over some weekends, with TOIL (time off in lieu), as well as being comfortable working indoors in an office environment. We want practical and highly organised people capable of coordinating event logistics and are keen to lead everything from small scale workshops to public community events involving hundreds of people.
