Chefs in Schools is a young, ambitious charity that’s rapidly growing. Our mission is to improve kids' health, through improving school food & food education. Working in areas of high deprivation, we support and train schools and their kitchen teams to serve the best, freshest and tastiest food possible, alongside meaningful food education. We share our learning and resources freely, aiming to inspire and enable others to follow our lead.

About you and the role

This is a pivotal role, at a pivotal moment for us. We are entering a critical growth phase, which includes rapidly expanding our own operations and managing significant external partnership. As Head of Finance & Systems, you will be accountable for ensuring we have the right systems and structures in place to grow at pace without detriment to good governance.

The purpose of this role is to lead on our finance strategy, and ensure all of our systems, reporting and processes are helping to drive forward the charity and deliver on our objectives at scale. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and Directors to ensure that financial planning is effective and supported by accurate data analysis. You will report directly to Trustees as required and ensure that the highest standards of transparency and probity are maintained. 

You will be joining the team during a period of growth in the size and complexity of our delivery. We currently have 24 employees and anticipate growing significantly in the next twelve months. You will have a crucial role in shaping our systems and processes to ensure we can scale effectively, both our existing programmes and a new membership-based programme that is in development. We’re looking for an experienced finance professional with an interest in effectively using technology and systems to drive efficiency, without compromising on accuracy or compliance. 

You will oversee all financial administration, ensuring this is carried out proficiently and in line with all legal and regulatory requirements, including ultimate responsibility for ensuring that all statutory filings are made accurately and on time. Your role will also encompass ensuring that we operate within legal & regulatory frameworks and stay up to date with changes in relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities:

• Developing a comprehensive financial strategy that supports the delivery of the charity’s objectives and activities

• Developing our systems strategy, including reviewing suitability of our current systems (Quickbooks for accountancy, Beacon CRM, PLEO for expenses management, Survey Monkey for data collection etc. ) and ensuring optimal use of systems, maximising automation, and using AI where appropriate.

• Constantly seeking to develop and improve the organisation’s financial systems, policies and procedures to promote dynamic, best practice and up-to-date application of tools, systems and approaches

• Leading and developing the Finance and Office Manager and ensuring effective support from the external book-keeping team.

• Lead on creation of the annual budget, working closely with Directors.

• Advising the Chief Executive, team and Trustees, ensuring that benefits and risks of decisions are fully considered and fit with the overall financial strategy

• Oversee sound financial administration, management and governance across the organisation, ensuring robust financial controls in place and operating effectively.

• Provide leadership and guidance to all things finance related, providing mentoring and support to the team, and coaching on financial awareness. 

• Accountability for monitoring that the organisation’s services are, and will, run to budget, supporting budget holders and reporting promptly on risks 

• Have ultimate oversight of the external audit and production of the statutory accounts, supported in delivery of this by the Finance & Office Manager

• Oversee production of management accounts and bespoke financial reports, including accurate forecasting, incisive analysis and accessible narrative commentary, ensuring decision-makers have the information they need. 

• Forecasting cash flow and managing the treasury position.

• Support the Partnerships & Impact team and Programme Managers with financial inputs to funding proposals and ensure restricted funds are used in compliance with grant conditions.

• Oversight of finance, governance and basic HR administration, supporting the Finance and Office Manager with high profile or complex queries, seeking specialist advice on financial or compliance matters as required

• Ensuring GDPR compliance across the organisation

• Leading an effective risk management process.

• Ensuring the organisation’s compliance with charity law, in accordance with the Charity Commission in England & Wales and all financial reporting requirements.

Skills & experience:

• You have interest and belief in our mission, to improve kids’ health through improving food and food education in schools

• You have full or partial qualification through an accredited accountancy body 

• You have experience in a senior finance role (e.g., Director, Head of) in any sector, and some experience within a finance function in the 3rd sector (in particular familiarity with Charities SORP and experience of administering restricted funds).

• You have experience of audit

• You enjoy a mix of leadership and rolling up sleeves to get hands on 

• You take a pragmatic and dynamic approach to robust financial management

• You can turn complex and dry data, into clear and engaging narrative

About the College

The Royal College of Pathologists is a professional membership organisation with charitable status concerned with all matters relating to the science and practice of pathology. It is a body of its Fellows, Diplomates, Affiliates and trainees, supported by the staff who are based at the College's London offices.

The College is a charity with over 13000 members worldwide. The majority of members are doctors and scientists working in hospitals and universities in the UK.

The College oversees the training of pathologists and scientists working in 17 different specialties, which include cellular pathology, haematology, clinical biochemistry and medical microbiology.

Although some pathologists work in laboratories, many work directly with patients in hospitals and the community. Together, they are involved in the majority of all diagnoses and play an important role in disease prevention, treatment, and monitoring. Main Purpose

• To assist in the technical support provided to both internal and external users across the College for all IT and AV Technology, both on site and for remote working.
• To provide operational support of the network infrastructure and associated hardware.
• To support all IT technology including servers hosted in the cloud (Azure) and on-site with upgrades and patches.
• To support projects and improvements to the Wi-Fi, LAN and WAN infrastructure to meet the requirements of the college.

The post holder will work closely with the Head of Education and Development to support the delivery of BASHH’s broad programme of education and training. They will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the STI Foundation and will provide executive support for the STI Foundation Steering Group and BASHH’s Education Committee.

Supporter-Led Fundraising has been identified as a major growth opportunity in our Income Generation strategy, and we have ambitious plans for it going forward. You will create and lead an exciting events strategy, and deliver a wide range of events, collaborating with senior staff, trustees, external organisations.

Main duties and responsibilities

Leading PBE’s public events strategy and delivery

• Work with our Head of Communications and senior team to design and implement an events strategy as part of the communications and fundraising strategies.
• Event strategy and programme planning: drawing on expertise of PBE colleagues, trustees and relevant stakeholders to plan, market and deliver an engaging and innovative programme of online and in person events to budget and deadlines.
• Event design, delivery and follow-up: planning and managing operational delivery.
• Responsibility for logistics of events including guestlist development, speaker invitations and stewardship, ticketing, internal briefings, contractors, venue liaison, event marketing and follow up.
• Active communications with speakers and attendees before and after events to maximise impact.
• Stakeholder engagement with events: Researching and drawing on advice from colleagues on interesting, engaging and diverse speakers relevant to PBE’s strategy, and drawing on PBE’s research and analysis projects as well as the wider media landscape to actively identify opportunities and agendas for future events.
• Supporting the organisation of joint events with charities and social sector organisations, working as part of a small and dynamic communications team to maximise the impact and visibility of PBE’s projects and publications externally, and the organisation of private research roundtables.

Supporting development and income generation

• Work with the Director of Development to ensure our events programme supports PBE’s fundraising approach by engaging funders, helping to identify new business opportunities, and contributing to funding applications. 
• Working with the Development team to manage the design and delivery of fundraising and stewardship events including small private dinners, roundtables, panel sessions in person and online.
• Collaboration with the Development Director to identify mission-related commercial opportunities from our events, such as sponsorship.

Delivering effective communications

• Collaborate with wider communications team to deliver greater reach and impact for PBE through our multi-channel communications strategy.
• Support communications colleagues to create and deliver compelling digital communications to support our events programme
• Managing data, reporting and insight to improve our events: Maintenance of all records of activity in the CRM Salesforce, and liaison with the Head of Systems and our Operations Team to improve systems and processes.
• Perform additional duties as required to ensure the smooth running of PBE and the communications team.

About you

The role would suit candidates from an events agency or in-house events/communications background, able to work operationally and strategically, working with and advising senior staff internally and externally.

Candidates should be able to point to a strong track-record of creating and delivering events and stakeholder engagement, with sufficient experience to lead and co-ordinate a diverse programme of in person and online events to reach policymakers and the wider social sector.

Your role

To lead on trust fundraising at SeeAbility and to grow and diversify trust and foundation income in line with SeeAbility’s aspirations.

Your responsibilities

• Lead on the development and delivery of a trusts strategy, overseeing the whole trusts portfolio, to generate agreed annual targets for SeeAbility.
• Be the charity’s expert in trust fundraising, adopting a data-driven approach, keeping abreast of sector developments and making the business case for change where appropriate.
• Develop and enhance relationships with existing trusts, delivering first-class stewardship, making appropriate and timely applications to secure agreed annual budget and ensuring that all reporting is completed in line with guidelines.
• Focus on new business and lead on creative, inspiring and professional proposals to trust and statutory funders that operate within the charity’s values and ethical policy.
• Manage, support and mentor the Trusts Fundraiser to secure funds from trusts and statutory sources of income. To lead any further expansion of the trust team in the future if the opportunity arises.
• Implement the systems, tools and procedures to proactively identify new funders that align with SeeAbility’s strategy and ethical policy.
• Work across the organisation to generate new and innovative ways to package up SeeAbility’s work to secure funding.
• To be responsible for setting, monitoring and reporting on income and expenditure budgets and key performance indicators
• To be responsible for developing and delivering the annual work plan for trusts fundraising
• Engage staff across the organisation in trust fundraising to support proposal development, reporting and stewardship and to grow the fundraising culture.
