Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK, with around 300 people diagnosed every day. The Macular Society is the only charity determined to beat the fear and isolation of macular disease with world-class research, and the best advice and support.

To support people affected by macular disease now, the Macular Society provides a range of support, information and services. Our research programme is focused on finding new treatments and a cure to beat macular disease forever.

Key accountabilities of the role:

• Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment plan that assess the requirements for volunteers in each department and across various teams.

• Recruit new volunteers, through advertising and events

• Manage the end-to-end process for volunteers, including onboarding and offboarding, ensuring all processes are compliant with safeguarding and data protection requirements.

• Maintain the database and other records.

• Work with the Volunteer Communication and Learning Officer to develop and manage regular communication channels to all volunteers to ensure they have up to date information and are fully informed.

• Ensuring that volunteer applications to Macular Society are dealt with in a timely manner and followed up to ensure that they are being supported and given an appropriate role to suit their skills and needs.

• Work with others to demonstrate and communicate the impact that volunteering can have for volunteers and for those who the charity supports.

• Promote inclusive and accessible recruitment practices to ensure volunteering opportunities are open to a diverse range of people.

£28,000 per annum FTE

We’re looking for an experienced Programme Officer to join our team on a maternity cover contract. This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in the delivery of our In2STEM Programme during a busy and high impact period. You’ll benefit from a comprehensive handover, a supportive team environment, and the chance to make a real contribution from day one.

The Programme Officer will support the delivery of the In2STEM Programme including recruitment, planning, delivery, participant and volunteer management, and evaluation.

You will be responsible for recruitment, managing a caseload of students and volunteers (work experience hosts), and managing relationships with supporters and funders. You will also support the planning, delivery and evaluation of programme activities including training and inductions, placements, online workshops, competitions and celebration events.

In2scienceUK is a remote based organisation, that requires occasional travel across the UK for recruitment, events, internal & external meetings and staff co-working days.

Duties and responsibilities:

Programme Delivery

• Managing a caseload of students and volunteers (work experience hosts) from application stage to successful completion of the programme, including recruitment, matching, onboarding, troubleshooting throughout the programme and evaluation.

• Creating and developing engaging communication materials about the programme including video presentations, posters/flyers, case studies and website text, newsletters and images. 

• Monitoring student and volunteer (work experience host) applications to ensure targets and milestones are met. 

• Maintaining up to date records via the programme database and ensuring data protection. 

• Managing relationships with existing donors and supporters and networking to develop new relationships with prospective donors and supporters.

• Organising online skills workshops and careers panels, recruiting and coordinating volunteer speakers and panellists. 

• Planning and delivering in-person student inductions and celebration events.

Evaluation 

• Evaluating programme activities, using student and volunteer evaluation data and staff insights. 

• Supporting the creation and dissemination of case studies, working closely with the fundraising team to ensure funder requirements are met. 

• Supporting team members to create evaluation and student data reports. 

As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the post holder. The postholder will carry out any other duties that are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager. All staff must undertake all mandatory training, checks and compliance as instructed by the organisation.

Person specification

Essential:

• Experience working with one or more of the following groups: young people, teachers or school administrators, volunteers, universities or STEM professionals/employers. 

• Knowledge and understanding of the STEM sector, including higher education, apprenticeships and STEM careers. 

• An understanding of the social and economic barriers that prevent some young people from accessing STEM careers and an ability to recognise the importance of diversity and inclusion in STEM.

• Experience developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at various levels.

• Experience planning and delivering training, events and workshops. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong presentation skills and an ability to adapt to a range of audiences. 

• Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to pick up new tasks quickly, showing resilience when faced with challenges. 

• Experience delivering programmes or projects for young people. 

• Knowledge, understanding or experience of programme or project evaluation. 

• Working collaboratively and supporting fostering a collegiate workplace environment.

• Upholds the values of our code of conduct and is respectful to all.

• Competent user of Google Suite, Word, Excel, Canva, Powerpoint, Gmail, and newsletter software.

Desirable:

• Prior knowledge or experience of GDPR and safeguarding.

• Experience of using task/project management software and databases.

Professional Standards Education Officer (PSEO)

Are you an experienced acupuncture practitioner interested in joining the BAcC staff team in a key role that will help protect both practising acupuncturists and the public?

The Professional Standards Education Officer (PSEO) will be at the forefront of supporting BAcC members to work safely and manage the risks of their practice. You will also have a great positive impact on public protection and fostering trust across UK and global institutions in the practice of acupuncture.

This will be a varied role, involving all stages of developing and updating policy and communicating it to the membership. You will work as part of our wonderful team, alongside our Safe Practice Officer, Research and Policy Manager, and our Professional Conduct Officers. You will also act as a link with the BAcC’s insurer in-house risk and legal support and connect to professionals across other UK healthcare regulators.

As the Secretary to the Education Committee, you will support the BAcC’s newly integrated education and accreditation function and assist the Chair and committee in guiding the future of acupuncture accreditation in the UK.

It is anticipated that your time will be split approximately two days per week in the risk management and safe practice support role, and one day per week in the education support role. These two functions have great synergy; you will facilitate the key connection between the BAcC and college accreditation by transmitting risk mitigation strategies and taking college feedback on new risks to update policy.

The work will be varied and interesting and, most importantly, you will be able to make a huge and tangible difference to the community. It is an exciting time right now at the BAcC as we are transforming the way we work. We are moving from a passive repository of safe practice information to an evolving, active support service for members where they need it most. The work you do in this role will not only help other acupuncturists navigate difficult situations and avoid complaints, but it will enable them to be fully protected in the rare event that a claim or complaint comes in.

Essential skills 

· strong written communication skills to simplify complex risk information and produce engaging content

· the ability to work independently, prioritise workload, and manage your own schedule in a mostly home-based role

Desirable skills

· experience in the provision of education at QAA level 6 or higher (including teaching or college administration)

Spiritual Care Lead

At Prospect Hospice, we believe that caring for someone at the end of life means caring for the whole person, their physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

We are looking for a compassionate and thoughtful Spiritual Care Lead to help ensure that spiritual care remains a central part of the support we offer to patients, families, carers, staff and volunteers.

The role

Working as part of our Family Support Team and wider multidisciplinary team, you will lead the development of spiritual care across the hospice and provide specialist support to those experiencing spiritual or existential distress.

You will help ensure that spiritual care is inclusive and accessible to people of all faiths, beliefs and life stances, recognising that spirituality is about far more than religion.

The role provides the chance to support peoples’ needs at a crucial time of their life, offering a place to explore their illness and emotional wellbeing, any anxieties and fear, concerns about their family and what the future looks like, focusing on coping strategies which they can use to empower them or bring peace and clarity.

Through your work you will:

• Offer compassionate spiritual and pastoral support to patients, families and carers
• Support colleagues in recognising and responding to spiritual needs
• Contribute to multidisciplinary discussions and care planning
• Provide opportunities for reflection and support for staff and volunteers
• Build relationships with local faith leaders and community networks
• Help shape and develop spiritual care services across the hospice

• A recognised pastoral care, counselling or spiritual care qualification
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. hospice or healthcare chaplaincy association)

• Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• Excellent listening, communication and reflective practice skills

Psychotherapist / Counsellor

At Prospect Hospice, we know that facing a life-limiting illness can bring profound emotional and psychological challenges for patients, families and those who care for them.

We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Psychotherapist or Counsellor to provide specialist psychological support to people navigating the complex emotional realities of serious illness, loss and end of life.

This is a meaningful opportunity to help people explore fear, grief, identity and resilience, while supporting clinical teams to deliver truly holistic hospice care.

Hours: 8 hours per week (with flexibility to meet service needs)

The role

Working as part of our Family Support Team and wider multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist psychotherapeutic assessment and intervention for patients and families experiencing complex emotional and psychological distress.

Your work will help ensure that psychological and spiritual care remains fully integrated within our hospice services.

In this role you will:

• Provide specialist 1:1 psychotherapy and counselling for patients and families with complex psychological needs
• Support people experiencing distress related to diagnosis, illness progression, trauma, grief and loss
• Contribute psychological expertise within multidisciplinary team discussions and care planning
• Provide consultation, supervision and training to staff and volunteers
• Lead reflective practice and staff support where appropriate
• Contribute to the development and evaluation of psycho-spiritual services across the hospice

Through your expertise and compassion, you will help patients and families find ways to cope, adapt and maintain dignity during some of life’s most difficult moments.

About you

You will be an experienced psychotherapist or counsellor who brings both professional expertise and emotional insight to your work.

• A recognised counselling or psychotherapy qualification and registration or accreditation with a recognised UK professional body

Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse AAFDA

Remote – Based in Scotland with regular travel across Scotland

Salary – £33,000 pa

AAFDA is a growing charity, and we are looking for a specialist Children’s Advocate to be based in Scotland. Although home based, travel will be required across Scotland. We welcome applications from candidates who are registered social workers and who have professional experience of working with people who have experienced domestic abuse.

AAFDA was founded by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will who were both killed by her ex-partner in 2003.

Scotland is expected to introduce Domestic Homicide and Suicide Reviews (DHSRs) in April 2026. We are looking for a candidate with a good understanding of the Scottish legislative system and good understanding around domestic abuse and how it impacts on children to join our growing charity. Each year, in Scotland, around 25 families lose a loved one to fatal domestic abuse, perhaps one third of this number being domestic homicides and the others being suicides following domestic abuse. The actual number of domestic abuse related suicides remains unknown.

Many of these families suffer significant problems including relationship breakdown, job difficulties/loss and mental and physical health issues. The Children’s advocate will provide expert advocacy, specialist peer support to children, and other services, helping them practically and emotionally. This may include helping them to contribute to DHSRs and providing opportunities to recover from harm for example via trauma therapy and other services.

Through trauma-informed approaches, you will help the children bereaved by fatal domestic abuse:

-To enhance their voice after fatal domestic abuse including by helping them to contribute to domestic homicide and suicide reviews and formal / informal meetings with various professionals.

-By providing residential peer support events, or access to these events for both the children and their carers.

-Via virtual support tools and other resources.

-By developing pathways into groupwork programmes for carers of bereaved children.

-Cope and recover by direct support and by linking into other services, for example, specialist trauma therapy.

The Movement is hosted by the Parent-Infant Foundation – the only national charity driving the growth and quality of parent-infant teams, across the UK.
